Ulani laughed. "I take it then that she's safe with him," she suggested. "I would hate to have anything happen to her in your world ... after all that she went through here."
She laughed again and went back to her embroidery. Apparently Donovan's skills were used for good things, too. Terexin had been right about that ...

Kara smiled at that as she put Skye down on the table, "Yes, otherwise both she and I wouldn't hear the end of it, if he wasn't."
She mused, she was grateful to Donovan, though he was a bit paraoid... imagined what would happened if he had blood daughters, the thought made her blush a bit since that was leading to other train of thoughts. She shook it off getting back to the obis.

Skye crawled over to her picture and lay down on her stomach, putting her chin in her hands and starting up her tuneless humming again as she looked at it. She was starting to miss her Mommy ...
She looked up at Kara. "Gamma, want see Mommy."

Ulani reached forward and patted Skye on the head. "Well, if you can wait a while, your Nako will be back and then you can take her to see your Mommy too, alright?" she said cheerfully. "Mommy would like that, don't you think?"

"We'll be home evenually," Kara told Skye patiencely, it was sad because Skye really was young, and probably hadn't realized that this was suppose to be a long trip this time around, ah well, there was always a next time she supposed.

Skye looked from Ulani to Kara as each of them made vibrations at her, and she pieced bits of them together to make her own idea of what they were saying.
"Take Nako see Mommy?" she asked, her eyes growing bright.

Kara hoped that Skye understood, she was never sure about Skye, probably because it took a while to teach her what you meant at times.

Ulani raised one eyebrow and looked at Kara wonderingly.
"It's amazing how much she understands, for being deaf," she commented, going back to her embroidering.

Kara nodded fondly watching as Miyu yawned from boredom, she wanted to be playing with her brother or doing rounds with her father, or even helping her... other father.
"We've been guessing on how Skye does it."

"My sister," Ulani began, then stopped. "Adopted sister," she amended, then continued, "was born deaf. She didn't know what speech was, or what words were, or anything, until she was six, when Ulrich's mother gave her the gift of hearing. Thought transference was the only way anyone could communicate with her until that time."
She looked at Skye thoughtfully. "How old is she?" she asked curiously.

"Uhm...." Kara stopped for a moment, how was she going to explain this, "She's a few months old," she really didn't remember, which was horrible because that was the same time as Kali...
Yes, she offically had too many children now.
"She didn't come out of her vase that long ago," she murmured.

Ulani was impressed. "So young," she mused. "And so smart ... I would assume then that she was ... er ... born with ... some sort of general understanding of things? Or ... do they have to learn everything, like how to walk, how to talk, and everything, like normal children?"
She finished the back of the kimono and turned it around to start stitching the name.

Kara nodded, "They are generally born with some sort of general knowledge, it varies sometimes. Seki acts like a real baby would, though I'm sure he understands just as much as any of the other Seconds when spoken to, they're quick learners," she sighed, "Only because they grow up too fast."
