Diana gave a satisfied smirk back and proceeded to walk to the stadium. Battling Hiwatari Kai will be a great experience. Standing in the opposite side, she took out a black launcher and proceeded to make the adjustments.

Kai followed soon after, attaching his blade to his launcher with a click!. For some reason, there seemed to a cold finality to that tiny sound. He disregarded the thought, deeming it silly and uncharacteristic of himself, and faced Diana from across the dish, already in the launch position.

"Well?"

----------------------------------

Drizzard’s eyes went from cold to horrified. Her brother’s idiotic master accepted a challenge by Diana! And she was Akurei’s keeper! She looked at her brother with eyes full of concern.

“Brother, your master seems to not know the horror of Akurei’s power. He shouldn’t have accepted the challenge; it’s like signing your own death wish! Are you sure you still want to battle such a creature?”.

Again, Dranzer sighed. "So it would seem. Unfortunately, Kai is like that most of the time; he won't agree to a match unless he deems it worthy of taking up his time, and he never backs down from a challenge."

The redhead laid one hand on his worried sister's shoulder, trying to reassure her. "As his bitbeast, I must aid him, of course. Don't worry; Kai and I will be fine. I will go as soon as he calls on me."

-----------------------------------

Presently, Kei reached the training room and nudged the door open with her foot. The first thing she saw was Miki asleep on the bench, and then the white-garbed young womand and young man in red from earlier - the ones she'd identified as bitbeasts. The two seemed to be looking at something, the gray-haired woman looking considerably worried. She followed their gaze...

And saw Kai facing Diana, both in front of the stadium that dominated the center of the training room.

They're going to battle?

Maria suddenly felt a cold chill come up her spine and reminded her of her trecherhy. She shrugged off the feeling these feelings had no place in a battle .

Keiji the bowed as a sign of respect, while Maria put her right hand over her left first on her chest and bowed.

Keiji then gave the first move and gave her a 45 degree kick coming to her.

Maria knew better than to face an initial attack head on. She then gave a step forward left. She then face his legs at their limit quickly going to stance. Then in a quick motion using her heal she shifted to him along with her left hand going for a punch while her left arm rotated down like rotating a lever. With the combination of the shifting of her body and her arms she gave him a hard bow without much effort.

Diana ignored Kai’s comment and pulled out a similar black blade and attached it to her launcher and positioned herself. Kai might be her best friend’s brother but that doesn’t mean he will get any mercy from her. Sensing that Hiyomura was inside the room, she ignored her and started the countdown. “3…..2……1…..” Giving a battle yell, she fiercely pulled her red ripcord and a black blade was launched with a powerful landing on the dish.

At the signal, Kai, too, yanked his ripcord and sent his Dranzer HMS shooting into the center of the dish, where it spun steadily. He'd keep it that way until Diana decided to make her move... or if he did. Either way, he'd learned from past mistakes, one of which was to always make the first move; the slate-haired teen knew now that that was a quick way to tire oneself out, and that was something he wasn't planning on.

----------------------------------

Drizzard was pulling her fists tightly and looked away, her long gray bangs shielding her eyes. After a brief pause, she muttered softly but clearly “Just don’t die on me…if I see you die there and you return again..I swear I will be the one to kill you myself”. It was rather harsh but she still cared for Dranzer…Now she felt what her mistress felt all those years.

Being separated from the only family you have in your life and seeing them go away or be taken from them. Drizzard watched as Diana performed a very strong launch. She was indeed very worried for her phoenix brother. There are chances where some beasts were able to survive Akurei….the rest….were gone….

Dranzer did not like the tone of his sister's voice one bit. She sounded... too worried, even with the added threat at the end. Both knew it was useless to kill a phoenix, for they would always be reborn. Still, because of what Drizzard had told him, the fire bitbeast knew what sort he'd and Kai would be up against - and the prospect held no appeal for him.

He coulnd't bring himself to revert back to his phoenix form and enter Kai's blade - not yet. But he would, soon. Instead, he went closer to the stadium so as to be closer to his partner when he at least needed help - and partly to distance himself from Drizzard; he was having difficulty restraining himself from hugging the worried ice phoenix.

Kei was worried as well - for both bladers. She didn't know why, really; Kai could handle himself, and Diana seemed a very capable blader herself - plus the fact that she had some pretty powerful abilities. And if she recalled correctly, their use extended to even the 'normal' bitbeast-bearers like Kai.

She didn't want to be so close to the stadium, yet she needed a good vantage point. She sat down instead next to where Miki was sleeping and set the bag from the convenience store on the floor beside her. All thoughts of replenishing her energy had disappeared from her mind.

Looking at her blue opponent, Diana gave a cocky smirk. Kai was attempting to make her move first. He wants her to move? Fine…the black beyblade started to spin faster, charging at her blue opponent’s blade and before she could hit him, it disappeared with a blur. She won’t attack just yet….she has other plans for her male opponent. Out of the blue…a familiar presence started to emit from the stadium. A cold…chilly feeling. Then, a familiar black essence was seen starting to cover the arena. Diana wasn’t planning to attack Kai for a while…she wanted to play with him first.

That feeling again... Kai thought, frowning a bit. He'd felt this - there was no other word for it - presence last night, during Kei and Diana's battle. And of course, there was that black essence blanketing the stadium.

Even though Diana's blade had disappeared, Kai knew it would do no good to panic. Crimson eyes darted about, searching for any sign of his shadowy opponent.

Drizzard looked at her brother's back who was intently watching the battle as it moved on, staying by his master's side. She was wrong to threaten him since phoenixes always come back from the ashes. But she couldnt bear to think that there was a very grave possibility that she will lose him...just because his master agreed to battle a beast that has never once been defeated...

He could feel Drizzard's eyes on him, even as he trained his eyes on Kai. Dranzer was so close to the slate-haired teen, it was like they could read each other's minds. Just as he was doing now; he knew Kai was searching for a way to pull this particular battle off without causing permanent damage to anyone.

And Dranzer agreed with him. Perhaps now would be a good time to try and tell him about the opponent he faced. Kai...do you have any idea whom we're up against?

She's Kurai's reincarnation, Kai replied promptly. Murphy told me so herself.

That's not all; she's also the keeper of the dark bitbeast we call Akurei. Before Kai could ask any questions, Dranzer forged ahead. I know you have yet to completely forget our battle with Brooklyn and Zeus. Kai, that bitbeast's attacks are paltry compared to Akurei's. Tell me: do you want Miki to-

I'm not going anywhere, Dranzer... Kai said, his tone reassuring. He knew - god, how he knew! - the difficulty he'd placed on his bitbeast that day, but he couldn't - wouldn't! - back down from a challenge he'd accepted; it wasn't his nature. But that didn't stop him from wanting to prevent either of them from getting hurt. I'm not leaving my sister...and neither are you leaving yours...

Keiji felt a familiar shortness of breath as he was hit in the chest. Instinctively after he was hit he grabbed the arm that attacked her with both hands using the eagle claw two of his fingers dug deep in her arm one at her upper side and one.

Maria twitched with the pain. At that situation stupid people would try to get their arm. With her right free hand and slapped his head and at the same time invisibly pull her caught arm to her center then twisting her hand to grab hold of him loosening his grip and she got away.

"If your going to get serious then put some brain in it."Maria said as she strenght her left arm feeling some pain as the points that he caught her was red.

Diana was smiling more and more as she saw a hint of panic at Kai’s eyes. She didn’t care if he knew panic wasn’t an option anymore. All she cared is finally giving her 1st attack. Now…within the darkness, the blue blade was still spinning steadily, not moving from its spot. “Perfect “ she thought to herself. Now there were strange sounds coming out of nowhere. It was sounds of moans…wails…and cries.

Now shadowy figures started to come out from the darkness, creeping slowly as if they were stalking the blue blade. She smiled at this and faced Kai who was still trying to find her blade. She crossed her arms and closed her eyes…and whispered a silent but clear ”Barrier of Shadows” And once those very words escaped her lips, the shadow figures started to grab the blue blade all at the same time…

What the-?! Kai very nearly took a step back, but caught himself in time. The shadows grabbing at the Dranzer HMS... what was their purpose? Instantly, his thoughts flew to his bitbeast, whom he knew was still standing behind him, off from the platform, observing until Kai called on him to enter the battle. Should I risk it?

Kai-! A slight hint of panic in the red phoenix's voice, even if only in his mind.

Dranzer? What... what happened?

I can't see anything...it's... It's all dark. Now the redhead had calmed down, even though Kai could still hear the very slight fear at being in the darkness again.

"Hey, Murphy, what are you playing at?" the slate-haired teen demanded. He was now more concerned for Dranzer than for himself.

Kai? the phoenix suddenly cut in; he'd gotten back in control now. Should I-

No, Dranzer, not yet. the crimson-eyed teen replied. You're already blinded; I don't want to have to set you against someone you can't see. It'll endanger you, and I don't want that happening. You'll know when I need you, all right?

...all right. As you wish.

The slate-haired teen had managed to keep himself from panicking when the shadowed forms grabbed at his blade, but he couldn't stop the ice-cold fist that clenched his insides at the wailing and moaning that reverberated off the walls. They weren't your ordinary cries and moans; they were the voices of the damned who had been through hell - and now wanted the victim to join them.

At least, that's what it sounded like to the crimson-eyed blader. Though he knew how he viewed the horror movie-style sounds was relative, that was the first description that entered his mind. It must be said he'd heard something of an introduction to this... sonata of the lost. Zeus's 'King of Darkness' had had a similar effect, but engulfing the blader as well as the blade. The moans that had issued from the shadows that time were nothing compared to this, however.

Kai knew better than to try to launch an attack, not with his blade so impeded; he'd only wear himself out. There quite was nothing he could do without endangerind Dranzer, who was already handicapped, as it were. It was a rare thing for him to do, but... he sighed inaudibly in assent, though his eyes were trained solely on Diana, sparks seeming to fly from them in his determination to stick this out.

He'd wait out the technique for as long as possible. In the meantime, he would search out Diana's weakness - if any - and do everything he could to exploit it that right moment.

Diana just stared at her make opponent with a bored expression and raised the corner of her mouth, indicating that it was so-so. “Well Hiwatari, you just don’t know how powerful I can be. I have a bit beast of darkness so there is no way for you to see through it even if Dranzer is a fire phoenix. I am just using my blade but not it’s techniques yet. So you better watch your back or I might just allow one of it’s horrors to be inflicted on you right here and now. My most terrifying attack can even scare the bravest men on earth. And sorry if I sound cocky…but I do have a reason why.” She smirked, a malicious smile. Her eyes were showing deep blood lust and she definitely knows what to do.

But she didn’t know that her red eyes were turning into a horrifying shade of black.

Seeing this almost made Kai retreat for the second time. This was the third time he was battling a dark blader, so to speak, but according to his brunette opponent, fire would do nothing to dispel it this time.

Sono me wa...kowai da... the slate-haired teen thought, glancing into those terrible black eyes that stared at him from across the stadium. No light, no life, no emotion. Was there truly someone like this, or was he just imagining that 'no life' part? Regardless, a person of lower stability would probably have fled at the sight, or at least cowered in fear. Kai would not give this girl the satisfaction of that.

How are you doing, Dranzer?

I'm... fine, Kai. I can still tell where you are by the proximity of your mind-voice. But you must concentrate on the battle now.

Right.

"If you're trying to scare me so I'll back out, its not working," he returned, reigning in the doubts that clouded his mind; he'd need to think clearly now, and allowing his fears and self-doubt to run rampant would impede this ability.

Diana’s features darkened into a scowl and the shadowy aura started to crowd Dranzer “You think you can mock me like that do you…”her black eyes were now returning back to their normal red color and she smirked “But that’s exactly what I need to make you get knocked out quicker”. Her black blade was still hiding from the darkness. She kept coming and attacking Kai’s blue blade continuously. But soon got tired and decided to make the aura go away. Now a black blade emerged from the light and was now spinning like normal. It didn’t look exhausted at all.

Diana decided to use some other measures. “Since I can’t seem to get any pleasure from just attacking you…” her eyes turn back to that terrifying black color and her smile returned complete with the sadistic smirk and bloodlust expression “I might show you a mild portion of my attack”. The black blade now started to emit the cold aura, similar to what she inflicted to a certain dark-haired fox blader, and was now…an image was coming out of the blade. It was…It was a shadow like entity but when the details formed..it looked even more horrifying than ever. It was a shadow, and its face was not visible only cloaked with a dark cape with torn edges.

The black cloak was splattered with something red in color. But it soon revealed what it was…Blood…the dark shadow’s cloak was sprinkled with splatters of blood. And both his hands which were covered with its long sleeves were holding onto 2 long scythes. The blades were long, dark and sharp but what made it more horrific was that it was dripping with the same red terror. This is the image of Kai’s opponent….the Reaper of Souls…the one..they call…Akurei

Drizzard was now glued to her spot as she stood there, watching from the sides as she saw the dark beast emerge from its black prison. Her blue eyes were changed from worried to complete shock and fear. She was almost at the brink of letting tears because of the image. She couldn’t speak a word like the spirit almost took away her ability to move her body. She didn’t know what to do except watch as her phoenix brother faced the monster before him.

Diana gave a smirk and spoke “Now you see him…Now here is my attack…” slowly raising her right hand, she continued “Shower of Blood!”. Akurei, at the sound of the command, made his move and spread his long black sleeves. Out of the air, droplets of blood started to pour. It covered the stadium with splatters and drips. And the blue blade was slowly getting drenched, colored red by the drops continuing to pour. And suddenly…images were being send at Kai’s mind.

It was all Dranzer could do to keep from crying out with each hit. He knew Kai couldn't see where the attacks were coming from, either, so he couldn't blame the young blader. He himself was blinded, and that made hiim vulnerable to attack. This the phoenix hated.

But, all thoughts of his well-being fled from his mind when suddenly, inexplicably, the link that connected blader and bitbeast seemed to disappear, and instantly the redhead was worried for his friend and partner. Kai?

No reply.

In truth, Kai couldn't hear Dranzer talking to him, if only in his thoughts. No, even those were gone. Instead, there was...

Miki...

The shadowed forms clawing at his blade became the shadowed images of his childhood nightmare, grappling at his twin and pulling her away. He was watching his younger self, straining against an unseen force.

No... not again!

Now, he was his younger self, straining, pushing to reach the girl.

She's so scared! And I... I'm the only one who... only I can...

"Oniichan! Onegai...ta-tasukete! Kowai yo! Oniichan, tasukete~!"

Miki! No! MIKI!

She was gone...again.

At length, Dranzer's knees buckled under him, and he slumped to the ground, but not before catching himself so as not to fall face-first.

What is...happening? he wondered, incredulous at the seeming weakness creeping throughout his body. Kai... why won't you answer? What's going on? Kai?

------------------------------

Without her knowing it, Kei had stood up, and was now quite close to the stadium. She'd gotten more worried when the dark bitbeast appeared out of Diana's blade - what a sinister sight! - and then, when this 'Shower of Blood' had descended, Kai had stiffened, and Dranzer seemed to be steadily weakening.

That wasn't all. After a few moments, the once-stoic crimson orbs had stared, unseeing, wide with what must have been fright - horror was perhaps too strong a word - and sweat had broken out along his hairline, from what she could see. Behind him, Dranzer had all but completely collapsed.

Then, as she looked closer, she realized Kai was mouthing something, over and over. Straining, she found that the phoenix blader was, in fact, calling his sister's name again and again, like a mantra.

Before she could stop herself, she called out to the dark-haired blader causing all this confusion. "Diana-san! Nan'da shitteru ka? Tomete kudasai!"

She'd been looking forward to a battle; she didn't like what she was seeing now. And truth to tell, she wouldn't have cared if Kai weren't the victim, she realized. If Takao, or Max - hell, even Yuriy were in Kai's place, she'd be doing the same thing she was doing now. She shouldn't... her opponents shouldn't have to suffer like this...

((Translations: "Oniichan! Onegai...ta-tasukete! Kowai yo! Tasukete~!" - Big brother! Please...help me! I-I'm scared! Heeeelp! "Nan'da shitteru ka? Tomete kudasai!" - What are you doing? Please, stop it!

Wooh! We got carried away there...))

Diana’s eyes were still filled with joy as she watched Kai, stiff with the childhood nightmare he had always feared to be but then something inside her snapped. Her eyes were now slowly returning to their red color and Akurei returned back to his blade and the black blade was slowly wobbling now. She couldn’t hold her ground anymore for some reason and let her body drop to the ground in a loud thud. Dranzer and Akurei were finished. And Diana was now unconscious as before.

------------------------------

Miki couldn’t help but stir by some thoughts and shouts she could hear. Fluttering her eyes open, she looked at the scene and saw her brother standing completely still, his face dripped with fear and sweat and Kei-san was shouting at Diana to stop. Diana…OH NO!

Miki quickly stood up, making her bitbeast call out to her in surprise as she ran to where her older twin brother was.

She clutched him tightly to her and called out “Oniichan, Oniichan! Wake up. Please, those are just nightmares. They aren’t real, please wake up. I’m not gone, I’m right here with you. Oniichan!” Miki hugged her brother tightly, her tears wetting his shirt. ”Oniichan…please..Snap out it…Oniichan..” her muffled pleads were making Dranzer clean of the blood, Akurei coated him with. She didn’t really know she was. Her thoughts were only focused on her brother coming back to reality.

Slowly, unexpectedly, the weakness began to leave him, and the blindfold that had held him in darkness lifted from Dranzer's sight. Though blurry, he could make out Kai's form on the platform in front of him, and then an even more blurry figure rushed up to the slate-haired teen, clung to him, and was now saying something.

It's Miki... the phoenix realized. Tired as he was from the battle - a losing battle, he was loathe to admit - he decided to try and reconnect with his partner, to alert him to the girl who clutched at him so tenderly.

Kai! Kai... listen... Miki...she's beside you. Kai!

Oniichan!

Kai, Listen to me...

Oniichan! Please...

Kai blinked, the dream-images fading away as quickly as they had come. He glanced at the stadium, where both blades had stopped spinning and now lay forlorn almost at its center.

Dranzer...the phoenix had been alerting him to something... what was -

Miki!

He half turned, saw the blue-haired form clinging to him, calling him, and he couldn't help the twinge of guilt that surfaced at his causing his sister to worry about him.

"Miki?" The crimson-eyed teen was surprised his voice didn't tremble all that much, given what he'd just experienced - was that a special technique unique to Akurei? He disengaged her hands from around his chest, and then turned to face her. "Miki, it's okay. I...I'm fine now."

-------------------------------

Kei heaved a sigh of relief. Whatever spell had caused Kai to act the way he did earlier, it had ceded control when Diana passed ou-

Diana! The brunette headed up the form, over to Diana's side, and knelt, taking a wrist and feeling for a pulse. It seemed that this was a constant problem of Miki's friend - and probably Miki's too - that she would pass out whenever she used an especially powerful technique, be it blading or just her 'normal' abilities.

"Diana-san?" Now Kei knew why she'd been worried for both bladers at the start; she knew, unconsciously, that exerting too much effort would have this effect on the other girl. She didn't know why she didn't feel any animosity towards this - there was no other way to describe her - dark blader.

"Alright be ready you can't heal yourself so be careful master"Keiji said going to the same stance as Maria had a bit embarrassed to be slapped at a martial arts battle

"Better make sure you don't hit my face or else I won't heal you"Maria answered him going also into position.

They started by double hand chi sao drills. where the left hand was switching from bongsao to tan sao . bongsao was to look at your watch as a wing arm while tansao was a pal block where as before the elbow was at the center and the hand flat like begging.
The right hand became a high and low fooksao which imitatated the fox pointing downwards using the part near the small finger the intersection of the hand and arm as a controlling arm with the elbow always at the center.

Maria taught it to her few age members of Boris. Though it was known as a women's art it was very deadly on any one who would use it for that. Wing chun was the name of one the girl first taught by a monk observing a snake and an ostrich.

Miki looked at her brother with eyes filled with concern. Tears continued streaming from her crimson eyes as she desperately tried to wipe them clean but to no avail. She was trembling slightly but it was still visible. She frowned, still with her tearful eyes, and started to pound weakly on Kai’s chest with her hands.

“Oniichan no Baka! You don’t know what you did, accepting Diana’s challenge! She sometimes can’t control her emotions that she can almost kill somebody with some of her weak attacks!

"Almost every trainee who challenged her back at the Abbey almost died from a trauma of fear because her Shower of Blood Attack! It attacks the person’s mind and amplifies his or her worst fear and materializes it into a dream, making the person lose his mind from the fear and his bitbeast will get poisoned by the blood..."

She took a deep breath to steady herself as much as she could, then continued with her tirade. "Oniichan, you are such a baka! Baka! Baka…” her voice was nearly inaudible now. She was so worried and terrified. But she also felt guilty. Not helping her brother and Diana all the same.

Kai sighed inaudibly; it was a mix of guilt and sadness, so he tried to hide it as much as he could. He'd never meant for things to go this way, almost going insane and making Miki worry like he did. Slowly, he laid his hands on his sister's shoulders.

"I'm all right now, Miki, truly." He tried to make his voice his usual monotone, trying to show her that he was, indeed, over what had happened. "I've been through worse..." Pulling the blue-haired girl close - a reassuring hug - more to assure himself that the nightmare was over - but of course, Kai wouldn't let her know that. "We both have, I think."

Then a smirk appeared on his face - again, for Miki's benefit. "But you already know how I am... don't you? Once challenged, I don't back down..." The smirk died away with the next sentence, replaced with a more serious, determined look, though not quite so severe as his 'usual' visage. "Don't worry, I know whose challenges to... refuse, now, as long as I can help it."

Truth be told, the slate-haired blader didn't know which was worse: Zeus's infinite sea of darkness and silence, or Akurei's horrible world of shadows, fears, and despairing yet vengeful damned spirits. He was just glad Miki hadn't watched that particular match.

------------------------------

Drizzard quickly went to Dranzer immediately and held his head close to her. “Brother! Are you alright? Speak to me! Brother!” she held the red phoenix worriedly and gently as she peered at the same with the fox wielder she battled earlier. Diana was still passed out but her chest was moving indicating that she was breathing. Looking back at her weak brother, she waited for his response.

It wasn't long before Dranzer became aware of someone holding him, calling his name. It took even less time for him to realize who it was. He glanced up, the color returning to his face, his eyes bright and piercing once more.

"Drizzard? Yes...yes, I'm fine. I'm all right now."

Only once before had the phoenix felt a similar, overpowering weakness; both times, darkness-wielding bitbeasts had been responsible, and the atmosphere generated by each attack were eerily similar, yet different.

One thing he knew for sure: Akurei was definitely not an opponent to be taken lightly. He knew Kai hadn't done that, and that his partner had taken every precaution. Still... this had happened...

The soft murmurs of gentle voices conversing caused Kei to turn her head. Miki was yelling something - it sounded like 'baka!' over and over again - her voice steadily becoming less audible; she was that worried over her brother.

The second pair, the two bitbeasts, were in a slightly similar state. The brunette had to smile to herself. Bitbeasts and their partners were truly the same at times; it was an interesting scene to behold.

She turned to the still-unconscious girl in her lap; Diana had yet to recover...

Maria wondered what was happening with Kai and the others wile training. This had left her open to attacks.

Keiji then tried to get through, but Maria not looking was something people fear even her old master. With just the feeling even though it was random.

They were a series of moves they created and ended up to a lap sao which sometimes happens when she did it randomly. The act of using a bong sao to block a punch then pulling the arm down of your opponent then he turns it to a bong sao again. It wasn't much, but they trained their energies as a warm up for another part of training, sparring.

{sorry it's been so long since I went back to practice.}

Miki still continued crying softly as she listened to her brother speak to her. She clutched him tight, making his embrace tighter. She was glad that Kai was the type not to try and make the second mistake twice again. She whispered once more so only he could hear her.

“I’m just glad you managed to snap out of it in time Oniichan. I only saw one of the trainee victims…and it wasn’t good to look at, at all. He was covered with blood because of the impact Akurei gave him and it caused internal bleeding and he kept screaming 'Enough' all throughout to the end of the battle...”

She let her brother go and looked over at Diana, who was still laying on Kei, still recovering from the severe energy loss. She looked at her brother and focused her gaze back to the ground. “You already know the whole story don’t you Oniichan?”

She gave a soft sigh and continued, “Diana is a good blader if she can only control her emotions. She sometimes goes berserk when someone angers her in battle. Mostly by insults, taunts and mockery. Oniichan, I am sorry, too, since I didn’t warn you earlier. I didn’t want to tell you and worry you about my true condition. But I guess you know everything now.”

Miki twiddled with her fingers and gave a smile “But I am happy though that Diana did tell you. I was planning to ask her to let you know. It’s not that I didn’t want to talk to you about it…I was just still scared of what your reaction may be.”

She leaned over and tiptoed…and gave her brother a soft kiss on his cheek. She hugged him and gave a smile. “If we do ever battle…I won’t go easy on you Oniichan.” her voice half-teasing him.

Kai gave Miki a brief hug in return for the quick peck on the cheek - another thing that wasn't quite lost from their childhood - and reassured her once again. "Miki, remember what I told you? I don't care what secrets you hide and how long you hide them from me... as long as I know all about it in the end..."

And then, at her next statement, he smirked in reply, resting his hand lightly on her head - no he didn't ruffle Miki's hair this time. "Good. Because I don't want you to. A battle where the opponent doesn't do his - or her - best tends to get boring..."

Turning, he leapt lightly into the dish and retrieved the blades, both his and Diana's, and then went back up on the platform to rejoin his sister. "That was a new experience, though, I have to admit..." he added quietly. Slate bangs shielded his eyes, hiding them from view. "A psychological attack that affects the mind as well as the body... I had yet to encounter such an attack..."

He shook his head angrily at the 'weak' tone his voice had taken. Snap out of it, Hiwatari! he berated himself.

Miki looked down as well but her eyes were still visible “Well, they say the mind can be the most vulnerable when it comes to pain. If a person will think pain then the body follows and feels it as well...”

Kai merely nodded in reply to his sister's words. Still, there was no helping it; that had, indeed, been his first time going against such an attack. And the crimson-eyed teen remembered what Akurei's wielder had told him: that it was only a 'mild portion' of her attack.

If that were the case, one had to wonder: what, then, would a full-out 'Shower of Blood' be like? Kai nearly shuddered at the thought of reliving his other nightmare, but stopped himself; he'd been out-of-character enough.

------------------------------

Drizzard gave a sigh of relief and let her phoenix brother rest for the moment on her lap. She gave a soft smile and said, “You can be such an idiot. But I am glad for you are recovered from such an attack. Akurei deals with the psychological pain that even we spirits can feel in battle. You are lucky; my mistress has her extraordinary ways to solve such complicated things, Brother."

She let her hand stroke his head gently, letting him rest from his tiring battle. Diana still was recovering. Let’s just hope that she won’t wake up in her bloodlust state like before.

If his face hadn't been covered by his scarf, Dranzer would have scowled at Drizzard for calling him an idiot. But as it was, he didn't because it wouldn't make much of a difference to his current expression.

"Hmm..." was all he said in reply, closing his eyes as he was finally able to relax. The oppressive darkness that had surrounded him that time, blinding him, didn't exactly do much to help his nervousness at going up against such a creature as Akurei.

Still, things had turned out all right, in his opinion; no one was hurt - permanently, at least - and it was a draw, so Diana probably wouldn't want to kill anyone. For some reason, Akurei's keeper struck the redhead as someone who'd murder if she lost.

Meanwhile, Kei was wondering what to do about Diana. Her legs were starting to cramp, but she didn't want to suddenly move the other dark-haired girl; she needed her rest.

There's no other way, I suppose... the amethyst-eyed teen decided. Slowly, she lifted the sleeping girl to a half sitting position, then turned and knelt so that Diana was resting on her - Kei's - back, arms over her shoulders. Making sure she supported her, Kei stood up - slowly! - so that she was now carrying her fellow blader piggy-back style. Then, the fox-wielder - or should that be half-fox? - made her way to the nearest bench. When she got there, however, she had no idea how to get Diana off her back and onto the bench to rest without jarring her awake.

From his vantage point, Kai suddenly spotted Kei toting a still-asleep Diana towards the bench they'd vacated just before their match. He could see she was having difficulty, so he excused himself and went over.

"Hand her over, Hiyomura,"

Turning slightly, Kei looked her trainer and teammate in the eye, questioning. "Pardon?"

The slate-haired blader didn't bother replying; instead, he took Diana off of his trainee's back, and laid her on the bench as gently as he could. Somehow, he felt that if he didn't show at least a little courtesy towards Diana, Miki would be...sad, if not disappointed.

"Just...leave her there for now..."

Kei nodded, looking uncertain at first. And then her eyes widened with realization. "Hey, I got us drinks at the convenience store, just in case." She turned towards Miki, who was still on the platform. "Miki-san, I bought drinks while I was out. Do you want any?"

A shallow - and it must be confessed - rather feeble attempt to try and take their minds off what had just happened, but at least she was trying. She wondered slightly, thought, what it was like, this...'Shower of Blood'...

Miki glanced at Kei who was apparently trying to move Diana, and her brother gently excused himself to help. She smiled at her brother’s thoughtfulness and watched from the stadium a bit and walked back down.

When Kei asked her if she wanted anything and gave a soft smile back and replied “Sure, I could use a drink; oniichan do you want anything?” she politely asked her twin brother. She was still worried for Diana but she had to act calm. Diana was a strong girl. She could take of herself since she had abilities like she did.

Miki suddenly remembered something and looked back at both hers and her brother’s bitbeasts and smiled at the cute scene before her and nudged her brother to look as well. Dranzer’s eyes were closed and he was lying down on his sister’s lap while Drizzard softly stroked his head. If only they changed clothes and in a different scenery, they could act like lovers on a date.

Kai looked, following Miki's gaze... and saw his bitbeast and hers in that position. He smirked; he and Miki were thinking the same thing, he could tell - one could almost always tell with one's twin, really. Perhaps he'd ask Dranzer about that later, when the phoenix had rested a bit longer. As for Miki's question...

"...I suppose I could use one, as well. No sense in wasting money, is there?"

Kei nodded, smiling a bit, and then went back to retrieve her convenience store bag. She came back, carrying it with both arms like she did earlier, then set it on the stadium platform.

"So... choices." the brunette said, rummaging through the contents. "I have grape, lemon, apple and regular soda here, and some juice, if anyone wants it." She glanced up, a can of lemon soda in her hand. "What do you guys want?"

Miki gave a smile in reply "Just some grape juice or soda will be nice, Kei-san. And thank you".

Kei reached into the plastica bag and took out a can of grape soda, then glanced at the slate-haired teen. "Kai-san? How about you?

"Regular soda will do."

The brunette went over and handed the twins their respective drinks. "Here. Good thing they're still cold, " she said, before popping the top off of hers and taking a swig.

Miki followed softly and opened her can. But before she drank, she decided to go to Kei’s bag and search for some apple juice and half-jogged to where Drizzard was. Kneeling beside her bitbeast, she gave a reassuring smile at Drizzard, who still had a hint of concern in her blue eyes. She spoke to her softly “Drizzard, if you want I could help heal Dranzer’s injuries. That is if you want me to”.

The blue female phoenix blinked and gave a soft shake of her head and returned her mistress’s thoughtful smile “It is alright Mistress, my brother isn’t injured in any way. He only needs to take his rest and he will be all right once more.”

Miki gave a nod and understood and gave the gray-haired phoenix the small bottle of apple juice she took from the convenience bag earlier. “Here, you need to try and drink something. You must have been worried a lot.”

In fact, both girls were worried for their brothers. Truth was, no one knew who was in more in need of care: Kai, having experienced the horrors of Akurei’s nightmarish attack; or Dranzer, who had been blinded by the eternal shadows of darkness cast over him with its servants of hell towering over him, and being showered by the terror of blood. She softly shuddered at the thought and left the small bottle near Drizzard’s side and walked back towards Kei and Kai. But not without looking back for the moment, and proceeded to walk once more.

Miki suddenly thought of something. She took Diana’s blade and looked at the bit chip closely. Closing her eyes, she started to emit the same glow she unleashed and a black mass come out of the blade and went in front of her. It was forming details and now…a dark-haired man stood in front of her.

He was tall and had rather pale skin. He wore a very dark attire, consisting of a black shirt, black long sleeved coat, black pants and dark boots. He had some black markings on his arms, like a black fire circling it. He had spiky gloves, like it was emitting a dark aura. But what was more darker was his eyes He had the darkest ,terrifying black eyes. It was like a demon peering down to your soul. He had short black hair, almost like Dranzer’s but slightly longer. He was wearing a torn black cap with many slashes and rips. And a black piece of cloth covered his nose and lower face like Dranzer’s.

Kai saw which blade Miki had taken, and he instantly busied himself with his soda. He refused to look in the newly-materialized bitbeast's direction. Something that didn't go unnoticed by a certain dark-haired blader.

Kei percieved the movement in her peripheral vision, and turned towards the slate-haired teen, and then at what must have been Diana's bitbeast, as it was her blade Miki was holding. She took in the dark form, its dark aura...and then approached Kai, slowly.

"You know... fear isn't such a bad thing," she began, taking a small sip of her drink.

Kai frowned, the can halfway to his lips. "What are you getting at, Hiyomura?" For heavens' sake, what of it if he didn't want to look at the creature that had most likely put Dranzer in the state he was in now? And nearly drove him bonkers, for that matter?

"I mean you don't have to hide every fear, Kai-san," The amethyst-eyed teen caught and held her trainer's gaze, looking at him pointedly, and then broke contact, glancing instead towards Miki and the dark bitbeast once more.

"See, if you suppress your fears - that is, don't talk about them or don't admit them - when the time comes, you may just find yourself more scared of it than ever. Everything...hidden, be they good or bad, has that power over us. The more we refuse to acknowledge them, the more they grow to try and get us to acknowledge them..."

Taking another sip of her soda, she gave him a slight nudge in the ribs. "Don't worry; what happened here stays just among us." Again, she caught his crimson gaze, trying to send the message across that she meant it. As... interesting as it was to see Kai in the state he'd been in earlier, Kei knew better than to exploit the 'knowledge' she'd gained in the past few minutes.

Kai rolled his eyes; he wasn't irritated, really. Kei knew what she was talking about, he'd give her that. Still, he wasn't about to break his habits for anyone - save for Miki, of course.

With one long gulp, the slate-haired blader polished off his soda, crushed the can, and then tossed it over his shoulder into the trash bin. There was a clang! as it bounced in, and he smirked. Perfect...

Meanwhile, the dark-garbed man smirked and bowed his head curtly, showing his respects. “Hiwatari Miki, sister of the wielder of Suzaku. Friend of my mistress…my most gracious greetings.” He had a deep voice but it had a dashing sound, almost had a British accent.

Miki gave a frown and replied but in a rather rude voice “It has been a long time hasn’t it Akurei? How long as it been since I first saw you…10 years maybe or 9?” Her voice had a hint of anger and concern. It was all for Diana, who was still unconscious on the bench.

Akurei closed his eyes and replied, “If this is concerning about my mistress’s condition then I have no say. I am only doing what she wanted me to do and nothing else. She needs to control her anger and unleashing a dark force. She has the power to destroy your brother’s spirit if she isn’t careful..”. He was calm and just stated the fact. He knew he was powerful but he only does what Diana wished him to. Even his control of darkness can’t defy her orders.

Miki got a bit taken back by Akurei’s words and looked downcast to the floor. She didn’t want to admit it but Akurei was right. It wasn’t his fault that Diana almost made her brother insane, it was her own anger that made her sadistic. Meanwhile, she heard a groan and darted her crimson eyes at the bench and widened. Whispering softly, she said ”Diana...”

Kei, being the closest at the time, heard the groan as well, and she turned to face the female blader on the bench. The brunette approached slowly, careful not to startle. "...Diana-san? Are you...are you awake?"

Kai had gone to sit on the stadium platform, as he was wont to do at times, leaning forward with his elbows resting on his knees. He noticed the two girls move at almost the same time - Kei actually going to the bench where his recent opponent lay.

He didn't know why, but he felt that almost all future training sessions - at least leading up to the tournament proper - would involve Miki, Diana, Kei, and himself. Of course, the other Blitzkrieg Boys would enter the scene at some point - where was Yuriy, anyway, for that matter? - but it was highly likely that, even though Miki and Diana would be on a different team, they'd be sharing the same training room; there were enough giant-sized rooms like this one in the building, Kai was sure.

Suddenly curious, he turned his head slightly to look at where Miki was standing, fighting the urge to look away as soon as the dark form entered his vision. The phoenix blader saw that Akurei wasn't that terrible a figure to look upon and almost laughed at his earlier refusal to do so. He shook his head at his amusing behaviour, and then turned back to watch if Diana would wake or not.

Diana fidgeted slightly and slowly opened her eyes. Her eyes showed several blurry images and it cleared. Hiwatari was there in the platform, Hiyomura near her and Miki was just a few feet from a guy in black. He wore all black and…wait….no way! Diana’s sleepy look turned into look of shock and mouthed “Akurei?”

Akurei nod his head to move and he disappeared into a blur. He was now next to his mistress and aided her to get up. His eyes looked droopy almost like showing concern. He muffled under the mask he wore on his face. “Mistress, are you alright?”

Diana groaned a bit and held her head “Yeah, just peachy.” She then remembered, and looked up at Kai. She had a look of fear and said in a low but clear voice “Hiwatari…I didn’t...just...” Before she could say anything, Miki beat her to it and replied for her “Unfortunately…”

Diana looked downcast. She doesn’t want to look weak but failed to appear strong. “Hiwatari…sorry…I couldn’t help it. Usually…I never use that move unless someone got into my nerves. But I guess I just…lost it.” Diana was now standing up with her fists curled tightly. She had lost hold of herself yet again. Just like those other battles.

Kai shook his head slightly, his face his usual mask to show he was fine. "Don't apologize, Murphy; it doesn't suit you." Then he smirked. "Besides, you're not the first one I've seen who 'lost it' in a Beybattle. You're the only who didn't look crazy, though..." He wasn't comfortable with the idea of an opponent apologizing for doing his best - or her best, as the case may be.

Kei moved to the side a bit when Diana stood up. She was glad the other dark-haired girl had recovered - even though she had nearly been killed by Akurei's keeper. It was very rare that she, Kei, held grudges against anyone, and this time was not one of those times.

She went to the convenience store bag again, rummaging for the second can of regular soda. Truth be told, she didn't know what Diana would want, but neither did she want to 'interrupt', only to ask what she'd like to drink. She also took out a bottle of cranberry juice for Dranzer, and apple for Akurei.

Good thing I bought all these extra juice and stuff... the brunette thought, laying the two bottles on the platform and holding Diana's drink in her left hand; her right held her own drink, which she still hadn't finished. She'd wait until it was reasonably all right to cut in with an offer of a drink.

Miki decided to sit by her brother. She was getting tired from everything that happened now. But her concern was still visible. She looked at Kai who was thinking. She decided to ask him yet again “Oniichan…if…you are thinking of me entering the tournament, I won’t if you don’t allow me to. Diana…already warned me that I might get found out and be targeted again. So…just say it and I won’t go. Miki never told him but she never really wanted to in the first place, she just felt pressured to convince her brother that she was strong.

She didn’t tell him, but that feeling was still in her red eyes. The feeling of being inferior. But now that her brother reassured her that he doesn’t think of her as inferior to him, she felt more confident. She let her hand lightly touch his shoulder “So…should I enter or not?"

Kai looked at his twin, studying her. Then he sighed, shaking his head, "Miki, don't try to convince me you'll be fine if I tell you not to join the tournament, because I know the opposite is true."

Crimson eyes misted over slightly as the blader remembered that tournament. "You have something to prove," he went on, still addressing Miki, "and if you feel you need to join this tournament to do so, then go ahead and join. You already know the risks involved, and so do I. But if joining the tournament is important to you, then I'm not going to stop you."

What the slate-haired teen said was true; he did know the risks entailed by Miki's participating in the upcoming tournament, but he wasn't going to shelter her from everything for ever. Besides, it was time she took the reigns of her life in her own hands; no one should ever have the right or privelege to govern someone else's life, relative or not. In his own way, he was trying to tell her this; he just hoped he got the message across - heaven knew how bad he was at communicating most of the time.

Akurei looked and something blue and red caught the corner of his eye. He slightly let his black eyes turn and saw a woman in white, letting a man in red rest on her lap. He blinked and soon realized who they were. ”Tou of the North and Suzaku of the South” the dark bitbeast thought in his mind. His recent opponent was helpless against the darkness he unleashed. Compared to the rest of the bladers he had faced, he lasted longer.

The other bladers already were breaking down when he just emitted the ghostly wails of his energy. Suzaku or…Dranzer as the young Hiwatari called him was weakened by his most powerful attack. He remembered how he was still trapped inside the black stone filled with corpses and rotting flesh. Unlike most dark spirits, he was concealed in the darkest place of all. He was trapped with hundreds of spirits of the damned, moaning and wailing for freedom from the bloody hell they were concealed into.

Their cries were loud, shrill... and painful. Some were shrieking with pain, some were groaning with hopeless dreams. The horrible smell of the dying bodies made the stone. Many of the spirits were weak but there were also powerful ones. Loneliness and darkness was his home. And was his nightmare.

He was the guardian of those spirits.

Some of the spirits were even powerful enough to make the world become a cold cauldron of endless, bloody savagery. But he was the one who kept them inside. Hope will remain but if he let them loose, it will just be a world without meaning. He was asked if he wanted to do the job. He'd wanted to refuse but how could you if the refusal will result to death?

Sometimes there isn’t any other choice in some situations at all. Death or Monstrosity were the only options. So he agreed to guard the spirits. But somehow, a certain girl managed to prevent all the horror to befall the world. He was extracted from the stone, taking along all the spirits with him. And he was given to his now current mistress.

Diana Murphy, a former assassin who has encountered the cold world of blood and meaningless killing. She was all alone in the world and she encountered training to be a killing machine. The group that hired her was called The Black Satan or Tschort in Russian. Something told the dark spirit that he was destined to be with her. She knew how to cope with him and understood how he was more than others.

Now at the matter at hand, he was still helping to support her. She was still tired from letting loose his attack. No matter what, he will remain loyal to her. Akurei remembered almost killing a certain fox-wielder but decided to ignore the past. The present was more at bay than what has already happened.

Drizzard was still holding on to her brother when she noticed a man in black standing beside Diana. Her blue eyes sharpened into a glare and she hissed to herself “Akurei”. He almost killed her brother. She knew he only followed orders but she still won’t let it slip by.

Meanwhile, Dranzer was slowly stirring from his light sleep when he heard Drizzard hiss something almost angrily. He blinked once, twice, and then percieved the presence of another bitbeast nearby - a dark one.

Slowly, he sat up and saw the dark figure standing near Diaan. It didn't take a genius to know who it was: her bitbeast, Akurei.

He stood up, deeminig it shameful to have been seen resting as he had. Turning, he silently offered to help Drizzard up from her kneeling position. The redhead didn't think that now was the time to do anything else aside from keep quiet, so he did. Besides, he didn't feel like doing much else, not at the moment, anyway.
