an arc is the name given to a story line within a series. for example, when haku and zabuza showed up it was part of the country of the wave arc, which is then followed by the chunin exam arc, search for Tsunade arc, sasuke retrieval arc etc.

I know....I'm confused already....you mean Naruto has a plot besides a bunch of Ninja goin around doin stuff?

theres more than one storyline in naruto. Lets try and break it down Naruto as a whole is broken down into two parts Naruto (part 1) and Naruto shippuden (part 2). Now the componants of these parts are stories (a.k.a arcs) about naruto and his goal of becoming hokage for example Naruto (part one) is made up of the country of the wave visit (story/ arc 1), the chunin exam (story/arc 2) the search for Tsunade, the 5th hokage (arc 3 or sometimes 4 if invasion of konoha is separated) and how sasuke goes evil.

It just feels a lot nicer to own them. I used to watch them on youtube but then they started removing all the shippuden episodes so i started watching them on daily motion
