A couple weeks ago at the liquor store, I was wearing my DC "Ladies Night" shirt that has all the female heroes running on it. I had to stand there with the clerks staring at my chest while they tried to name them all to impress me. rolleyes

Well it's a bitchin' shirt.

The other day I noticed that one of my newer co-workers has a tattoo of the kana for fire on her inner wrist, so I asked her about it:

"Your tattoo, doesn't it mean fire?"

"Yep, how did you know?"

"I've seen too many Japanese cartoons."

"Well that's the kind of guy you are."

I was once invited to a D&D game.

On public transit.

By someone I didn't know.

AND...

I don't like being elitist... but I was in a Chick-Fil-A eating breakfast one morning, and a K-Fed lookalike sees I'm reading a comic. He engaged me in a discussion... but soon got in over his head. Not that I was laying the smack down or anything, but I saw his eyes glaze over when I mentioned there was more than one Robin (it was an issue of Teen Titans).

The life returned when I dropped it and asked him who he liked reading: "Spawn."

Mental response? That fits.

Actual response was something akin to "Yeah, he's cool."

(Yes, I'm aware there are intelligent Spawn fans. Just a lot more unintelligent ones.)

A customer came into the store with a similar shirt like three weeks ago. It had Wonder Woman, Zatanna, Black Canary, and two other DC heroines that I can't recall at the moment. She tells her boyfriend who sidles over half a minute later that I was able to name them all.

"Really? What books you usually read?"

My response?

"Oh, I'm mostly Marvel."

That's the shirt. It has Wonder Girl, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Black Canary and Zatanna in her 80's gear on it.

Speaking of which, I'm seriously considering taking Joe Kubert's correspondence course in either Story Graphics and/or Penciling. Except that I'm nervous as hell.

I mean, yeah I really do want to be a comic artist but can my fragile ego/self-esteem handle the criticism of one of comicdom's most accomplished artists?

Hey, if you want to go straight for it. One opinion shouldn't stop you, it should influence you to go even further.

Yeah...you're right. Besides, it's better than waiting to get back into college.

And I won't know until I try, right? RIGHT.
