"Terryn..." Marcus felt horrible now, like he was scum in the manor that the servants needed to dispose of. He walked forward into her, holding his arms out so that Terryn could bury herself in his clothes.

Terryn made no hesitation in allowing him to embrace her, crying freely, yet silently, into his chest. "This is not me..." Her voice could not even break a whisper. "I do not even know what I am doing."

Marcus held her tenderly. "It's alright," he mumbled, feeling useless and quite incapable of being comforting. "I think the cold hearted wench needed this."
The Duchess raised her eyes to the Earl. "They're taking their time," she commented. "D'you suppose we should call them in?"

Terryn just nodded, sniffling a little. "This really is not what we planned at all, Marcus." Her head at this point was swimming. She had no idea what was happening to her or why she was feeling so vulnerable, and yet at the same time comforted by Marcus's embrace.
"Perhaps...or maybe we should just take a look." The earl got up and quietly crept around the corner, his eyes widening as he saw their embrace, though he was unable to hear Terryn's quiet crying.

"I know. But, perhaps this is for the better," soothed Marcus, stroking her arm, under the impression that any warmth he could possibly transfer to her would make her feel better.
The Duchess listened to their words and her eyes went wide. She tugged at the Earl's elbow and when they were out of earshot, whispered, "Do you suppose that they were telling the truth, when they told us what they had done last night?"

"Perhaps..." Terryn looked up at him, dabbing at her eyes as she tried to hold back the rest of her tears. "But what are we supposed to do now?"
The earl was in a state of shock. No man had ever had that effect on his daughter. "I...I have no idea." He walked dazedly back into the dining hall and slowly took his seat, looking completely dumbfounded.

Marcus sighed. "Now, we stop being afraid and do what we wish, the rest of the world be damned," he told her, as firmly and bravely as he could.
The Duchess was thinking fast. Marcus had run into this sort of trouble before, but he'd never seemed so responsible for it. "They cannot hide this for long. We cannot let them know that we know."

Terryn couldn't help but smile, even chuckle a little, at this. "And as for my father? I am sure that he will have a heart attack if he discovers that we truly do have feelings for one another."
"Agreed." The earl cleared his throat, starting in on his food to distract his overburdened mind.

"And I'll have to fetch a nurse for my grandmother when I tell her that I intend to spend more than a month with a single girl. And you of all girls."
The Duchess began to massage her temples. Marcus.

Terryn pulled away from him slightly, still smiling. "That is if, of course, I do not decide that I tire of you and then shoot you with an arrow." Somehow, though, it was pretty obvious that she wasn't going to do that.

Marcus smiled. "And what a pity that would be." He looked behind him once to make sure the elders weren't spying on them, and then, in a low voice, said, "What do you suppose you'd do if I were to kiss you now?"

Terryn felt another feeling in her stomach, though this one was lighter, and not at all unsettling. "I would most likely kiss you back." Judging by her bright expression, it seemed to be the obvious answer.

"Hmm." Marcus grinned. "I am delighted to hear it." He now really did begin to enter the dining hall, turning only to give Terryn a look. "Are you not joining us?"

"No, I have decided that I must now watch my figure." Terryn rolled her eyes with a smirk and followed him in.

Marcus certainly felt a chill coming from the Earl as he entered the room, and the Duchess looked at him very exhasperatedly when he took his seat. He looked to Terryn. What, precisely, had happened it the past few minutes?
