I play mallets. I'm currently Marimba 2 in Winter Percussion. I just joined band.. so I haven't been in marching band... only concert. I still have yet to play an actual marimba, but ours should be coming soon! And I play xylo and vibes in band... bells when I have to. I'm trying to decide whether I want to stay in band next year.

All my life, since 1st grade, I'd practiced and played snare. My middle school barely had a band so it didn't do too much for me. In highschool I started out as a mallet player in my pit. I quickly became pit captain and devoted my life to it. After high school I went and joined a drumcore, Impulse, for a year. After that I joined RCC (Riverside Community College) and got my degree in music, while having the pleasure of performing in some of the best drumline shows I've ever seen, as well as even recording some things for movies (like all 3 Austin Powers movies). From those experiences I had an idea and followed it. Now I work for a pretty large recording studio in Hollywood and I make about 130 grand a year to play the instruments I love for any reason they tell me.

It's kinda strange, back when I was a freshman in HS, I almost quit drumline when I didn't make the battery. Kinda makes ya think.

I've been in marching band for three years and I always thought it would be awesome to be in drumline...and this spring I finally got around to joining. I'm currently on xylophone. It's really fun! And besides, I really don't have anything better to do on Thursday afternoons. ^-^;; But I'm graduating this year, so I won't get to play with the band. Sniffle. I suppose for the fall marching season they'll find someone else.

I don't know how many people in this guild are drummers. I started drumming with I was 4, which by all rights should've make it easier right? Yeah...so marching band music is in no way, shape, or form the same. Why can't there be more rudimental drummers out there?!

^_^ **waves** Greetings, fellow drummer! Though perhaps I should be called a xylophone addict. ^_^ That's my thing really.

My boyfriend began his drumming career at the same age, though he's a set drummer mostly.

Marching band music is evil and wrong (^^ kidding, but it's definitely hard). And there aren't many rudimental drummers out there because.... many "drummers" can't play rudiments! Like me! But at least I have an excuse, being a xylo addict.

I'm glad someone made a topic for percussionists! Struggle on, my friend.

OMG! i am the exact same way!

I will only play vibes for warming up, or if given a choice, that would be all I'd play. I even play 'em in jazz band! (I'm a vibe addict.) Ours, sadly, keeps breaking! The pedal always falls off right in the middle of practise!

EDIT: I also like bells and timpani. Not xylo., it's too wooden-sounding...there's no ring to it!

Technically percussionist are drummers but drummers are not percussionists. So if the name to this topic was changed to Drummers Section it would practically only imply snares.

I'm a snare myself, and whoever says that rudiments are hard, hasn't spent enough time and effort into trying to play them.

I'm whatever they feel like making me XD. I'm in the pit for marching band but personally, I HATE rudiments. I wish they would go away >_< I really wish levels could be how well you play music :/.
