Response: #77 - Iridium

"Element number 77, Iridium is a chemical element with symbol Ir. A very hard, brittle, silvery-white transition metal of the platinum group, iridium is the second-densest element (after osmium). It is also the most corrosion-resistant metal, even at temperatures as high as 2000 °C. Although only certain molten salts and halogens are corrosive to solid iridium, finely divided iridium dust is much more reactive and can be flammable. Iridium was discovered among insoluble impurities in natural platinum."

Agave strove to write a brief, yet detailed, definition about their element. The definition they'd found for it had had quite a bit more information than they had hoped to use, but they noted all of it down anyway. Paring it down from there had been a simple task. A bit of rewording to a couple of key points and everything read smoother yet kept the informative tone they'd been hoping for. With luck, Flora would be content with the amount of information they'd provided and they could focus on some of the work from their other classes. The end of their senior year was approaching fast and they wanted to graduate with high marks.

Response: #35 - Bromine

"Bromine," Soren had to pause a moment to bite back a smile at the name. They was definitely telling one of their friends about this one, it sounded like something right up their alley. "Element number 35 on the periodic table, Bromine is a chemical element with the symbol Br. It is the third-lightest halogen, and is a fuming red-brown liquid at room temperature that evaporates readily to form a similarly coloured gas. Apparently it also smells really strongly and disagreeably." It wasn't much, but the fact that they'd had the information ready to go, in class, and most importantly, on time was a feat unto itself. They'd been kept on track, at least in this class, but some of their uni friends. Frankly, they were also tired of being in academy for so long and they were ready to graduate already. Just a few more classes though!

Response: "Prase-o-dym-ium." Lailah slowly said as she looked at the word, trying to understand what the heck it was supposed to sound like. It was a weird element that she had gotten. She had been hoping for one of the regular, more common elements like gold or something, but instead she got this hard-to-pronounce one! So unfair!

She looked at her information about it though. "It's the third member of the lanthinide series and is a rare-earth metal." Well she didn't really know what any of that meant, she wasn't that much into science, but well, there you go. "It's very malleable and ductile, and is valued for it's magnetic, electrical, chemical and optical properties." What the heck was an 'optical property'? "It always naturally occurs with other rare-earth metals. It's the fourth most common rare-earth element." Man they sure used that word combination a lot didn't they? "And it's only the most stable when it's in water. And it's used to make the color in a lot of things such as pottery and glasses." Well that was interesting at least. The rest of it seemed like a lot of Mumbo-Jumbo to her though, and she figured she had presented what she needed to about the element already. Or at least that others could easily understand.

Response: “I’m Ari, and my element is Ruthenium. It is a chemical element with symbol Ru and atomic number 44. It is a rare transition metal belonging to the platinum group of the periodic table. Like the other metals of the platinum group, ruthenium is inert to most other chemicals. It does not tarnish unless subject to high temperatures. Small amounts of ruthenium can increase the hardness of platinum and palladium. The corrosion resistance of titanium is increased markedly by the addition of a small amount of ruthenium. Thank you, that is my report.” Ari sat back down and waited to hear the next report.

Zoren wasn't familiar with the periodic table. So when asked to look up information about one at random, that seemed fair, as most of the contents of the textbook were fairly abstract to the Baphomet Freshling. Finding it, he frowned at the page, reading it over a few times to make sense of it.

"Moscovium is a synthetic chemical element with symbol Mc and atomic number 115. It was first synthesized in 2003 by a joint team of scientist. Moscovium is an extremely radioactive element: its most stable known isotope, moscovium-290, has a half-life of only 0.8 seconds." Zoren explained when it was their turn to present their element.

"Neptunium is a chemical element with symbol Np and atomic number 93. A radioactive actinide metal, neptunium is the first transuranic element. Its position in the periodic table just after uranium, named after the planet Uranus, led to it being named after Neptune, the next planet beyond Uranus." Gormain read over the text. His reading and writing skills had improved dramatically. He had really begun to put in the effort after meeting Jin.. he never wanted her to feel like she couldn't write him something. Or anyone for that matter. The Grimm's tail wagged excitedly as he gestured to the textbook.

"Neptunium has no known biological role. It is toxic due to its radioactivity. Neptunium is obtained as a by-product from nuclear reactors. It is extracted from the spent uranium fuel rods. Trace quantities occur naturally in uranium ores." He explained, pleased he had remembered the majority of what he read so he could share with the class.

Natasha was excited to make her way through classes. She enjoyed learning, but really she wanted to get through her time at the Academy so she could go to school to become a personal chef and nutritionist. That meant she needed to come to class prepared, and work diligently on her assignments. Grabbing a textbook, she selected the element Titanium as the first thought that came to mind was a song she enjoyed. Smiling thoughtfully she read up on it, taking notes so she could give a short description speech about it come her time to present.

With a considering look on her face, she began to share about Titanium."Titanium is a chemical element with symbol Ti and atomic number 22. It is a lustrous transition metal with a silver color, low density, and high strength. Titanium is resistant to corrosion in sea water, aqua regia, and chlorine." Once that was out, she further added it also reminded her of her favorite song, earning her a few chuckles, and nods of agreement.

"Einsteinium is a synthetic element with symbol Es and atomic number 99. A member of the actinide series, it is the seventh transuranic element. Einsteinium is a soft, silvery, paramagnetic metal. It glows this real pretty blue in the dark." Having extinguished all he knew about the element, Red plopped back into his seat. Truthfully, he wasn't sure of the meaning of most of those words, but they were right there in the book, so they had to be true. Not to mention he wasn't even real interested in this sorta thing. When were they gonna start dissecting things or setting stuff on fire? He'd heard from an upperclassmen that they sometimes did that sorta thing in science class and he was really excited for those bits.

Response: #70 - Ytterbium

Di'o pondered about the element they had gotten. Certainly they'd never heard of it before now and most of the words the book used to describe it didn't make any sense. Hopefully the teacher wasn't looking for understanding about the element, just a basic description of what it was. Fumbling a bit, they read aloud what they "saw."

"Ytterbium is a chemical element with symbol Yb and atomic number 70. It is the fourteenth and penultimate element in the lanthanide series. Once extracted and prepared, ytterbium is somewhat hazardous as an eye and skin irritant. The metal is a fire and explosion hazard. It looks silvery white; with a pale yellow tint."

Hopefully that was enough information. The rest of the paragraphs describing it had words that they couldn't even pronounce in their head and didn't want to attempt aloud. Ianthanide had been hard enough in its' own. Sitting back in their seat, they listened with interest to the few other students who were in the class, wondering if they knew more about their chosen element than they had.

Response: #9 -Fluorine

"F-fluorine, the lightest halogen, exists as a highly toxic pale yellow diatomic gas at standard conditions. It's a chemical element with symbol F and atomic number 9. As the most electronegative element, it is extremely reactive: almost all other elements, including some noble gases, form compounds it. Among the elements, fluorine ranks 24th in universal abundance and 13th in terrestrial abundance. Fluorite, the primary mineral source of fluorine which gave the element its name, was added to metal ores to lower their melting points for smelting."

Cyril was more grateful than he could have expressed that he managed the entire paragraph with just the one stutter at the beginning. He'd done quite a bit of research for this assignment and had probably annoyed Wade more than a bit practicing this specific paragraph. Today seemed to be an unparalleled good one for all his classes. He'd done much better than he'd anticipated in health, with no flares or embarassing incidents there, language arts class being a breeze, and now managing to give a speech without tripping over his words or trying to make it come out a different way. It was enough to give him hope that the rest of his classes would be as easy to complete.

Response: #37 - Rubidium

"Rubidium is a chemical element with symbol Rb and atomic number 37. Rubidium is a soft, silvery-white metallic element of the alkali metal group, with a standard atomic weight of 85.4678. Elemental rubidium is highly reactive, with properties similar to those of other alkali metals, including rapid oxidation in air. " Maeva recited the information from the book, presenting the facts first. There had been much more that she wasn't quite sure she understood, but had included in her report. Much as she liked learning, science definitely wasn't her forte. With the dry facts out of the way, she could present the interesting tidbit she'd learned and end her report.

"Rubidium is not a known nutrient for any living organisms. However, rubidium ions have the same charge as potassium ions, and are actively taken up and treated by animal cells in similar ways." Wasn't that peculiar? Something that wouldn't provide anything necessary for the body was treated similarly to something that was. But, with no questions about anything she'd spoken on, she took her seat, pleased to be done with her report.

While he wasn't the best at science, it was something that he could easily get help with at his house so he had pretty good grades in the class. Plus public speaking wasn't as scary to him as other people. So he gathered up his report and started to speak.

"Ruthenium has an atomic number of 44. It is a transition metal and part of the platinum family. As such it is inert to most other chemicals. Appearance wise it is silver white and metallic. Most of the time ruthenium is used for wear-resistant electrical contacts and thick-film resistors. It is also the 74th most abundant element in our worlds crust.

Haruka frowned when he was assigned his metal. After starting to research for his presentation he found out because it was an element that was made, there wasn't really much info on if. He had to pour through sites and books and hopefully scrap up enough information.

"Berkelium has an antomic number of 97. The element is one of the man made ones and is a silvery radioactive metal. However because it is rare, berkelium does not have a commercial or technological use at the moment. It was first created in December 1949 by Stanley Thompson, Albert Ghiorso, and Glenn Seaborg. Less than a gram of it is made each year.” was the information that he did give the class on report day,

Finally recovered from P.E Fiore was happy to get her report out of the way. Science was a much nicer topic for her in school and she had sat down and worked with her mom to research her assigned element. Okay Araceae had mostly sat there in emotional support.

"Lanthanum has an atomic number of 57. Appearance wise it is a soft ductile silvery white metal which quickly tarnishes when exposed to air. It is also soft enough to cut with a knife. Lanthanum has no biological role in people but is essential to some bacteria. Lanthanum is the 28th most abundant element in the planets crust and is more common than lead. It is one of the elements used in some kinds of batteries and in electric vacuum tubes. " she told the class before sitting down.

So being off her sleeping schedule was...weird. "It does not break down easily, but it does change based on the oxygen." she waved a hand around in the air lazily. "Which is in the air we breath." That was what Birikita had told her at least. "It is used in many things like protection, science stuff, and it is commonly found in coins. Nightmares and daydreams can also be allergic to it and it can be used as a magnet with other elements." Could she sit back in her seat and sleep now?
