Krisella was standing, her voice low as she spoke, while Inka wore a face of annoyed concentration. He glanced up at the slight movement in his peripherals, catching sight of the newly returned Kiri nin. The Mizukage turned to his secretary. "Sign off on their return and ensure they're paid." He spoke, voice sounding rough with exhaustion. Gold eyes flecked with red fragments of something broken then remained trained on the appointed squad leader. "But you'll report first. Come in. Did you get a response?" Inka sat up a little straighter and his hands absently straightened the age-stained documents laid out on his large desk. Way back when Inka had first become an advisor to the Sandaime Mizukage he realised the size was just as part a play to intimidate as it was functional in holding the massive array of research some missions require.
Krisella walked out of the office to greet the returned team and handle their payments personally.

__ When he was addressed Kenshin responded with urgency. "Yes sir, Lord Mizukage." He approached and respectfully bowed as he presented the letter as well as his full mission report. They were arranged in such a way for precise convenience. The letter was on top at a discernable angle and the mission report was arranged below it. "The mission was a success and there are also notes for how the squad can improve for maximum efficiency next time, m'lord." Kenshin lived a pleasureless life, but he felt a sense of delight in completing the mission. His duty was his only source of happiness and self-acceptance. Even still, his characteristic deadpan expression persisted even in the wake of his ephemeral gladness.
[･･･] Inka said nothing. His face didn't change from its mixed look of exhaustion and concentration. Whatever he expected we would find in the letter, he didn't believe it to be something worth showing hope or even relief. Silence stretched, and Inka's brow furrowed down. With his narrowed gaze, his iris' looked to only be the one colour - pricks of red, dark like a scab. An acceptable amount of time passed fo Inka to have read the letter, but he didn't speak. The Mizukage just reread it, flipped it over to see if there was anything written on the back of it, and went to one particular section, his left eye twitching to an almost closed state.
"The ******** is an 'a**-par-tame?'" He grumbled. The words apparently unlocked something with the speaker. Inka finally moved; he leaned back in his chair, trew the letter down on the table, and tilted his head back to rub a hand over his eyes. The letter was largely useless - a hastily scrawled thing littered with gramatical errors and even misspellings. It felt like a spit in the face of his own efforts to communicate with the Hokage with his long thought-out correspondence. And the concerns he brought up were barely recognised. What a day...
Having allowed his brief moment of emotion, Inka picked up the report... only to pause and slowly lift his eyes, and an eyebrow, to Kenshin. This report was far larger than he had anticipated.
"Had an exciting trip, did we..." The Hizara mumbled before returning his gaze to the paper and quickly reading through it. His other eyebrow slowly rose to join the other as he went. "... You ever heard," Inka began, voice slow and low. The papers were equally treated as such as he placed them back onto his desk. "of the saying 'danger doesn't need description?'" He didn't wait for an answer. "You want to be an officer of rank in Kirigakure, you will need to learn to embody authority by not stating your authority." A brief pause, red gaze flickering. "You've met the Gate Keeper." Not a question. "They only ever speak when needed - part for their own secuirty and because their presence is a deterrent enough. I hand-picked the Shinobi to be rostered for that duty because they know a puppy barks, and a wolf watches. I don't need puppies." The Mizukage Godaime was obviously evaluating the man standing before him, face hard but thoughtful.
"But you do have a passion that I can't deny. And passions are powerful motivators. You're young. We can still straighten out the road ahead of you." Inka's fingers tapped the desk in a thoughtless rhythm. "Head to the Arena at first daylight tomorrow. I'm arranging particular training for you. Obey them as if their words are my own. And I'll take your report's suggestions into consideration." He added in reassurance, not wanting Kenshin to have the impression his actions were not considered. "You did well. Rest and ready yourself for tomorrow. For anything."

__ Hyperfocused black eyes fixated on the Mizukage as he read through the Hokage's message delivered by himself. When he began speaking Kenshin paused to think for a moment. "Danger doesn't need description?" The infinitely more intelligent and articulate Mizukage continued to befuddle his loyal genin. When he continued Kenshin understood his criticism with much-added clarity. The words thundered through him with pangs of pain. "I'm not worthy." He thought with gnashing teeth until respite was offered by his statement that he did well. He managed to perform well of his duties overall in his Mizukage's view. "Yes, Lord Godaime, your will shall be done. I will work hard to improve and become of further use to you." His words were precise and dedicated. "Milord, let me one day become a police initiate, that I may see them...safe behind bars. I will never rest 'till then, I swear by it." He bowed deeply after affirming his incredible words of conviction. "May I be dismissed, Lord Mizukage?" Kenshin asked with incredible respect.
[･･･] Inka kept an eye on Kenshin, even as he reached for the stamp of his seal at a far corner. He hummed and stamped Kenshin's report. "The resident force does more than chase and incarcerate criminals, Kenshin. But," And here Inka grabbed a pen and signed his name onto Kenshin's report. "I feel you'll learn better through experience. As we all do." He added softly. "Just hold on to that passion of yours. Dismissed."

__ Kenshin bowed once more upon hearing of his dismissal. He quickly took his leave, he was not worthy of being in the Mizukage's presence for any longer than he was needed. He now stepped out of the office building and towards his next destination.

Taylor passed Kenshin in the hallway, sparing him the briefest of glances. She moved to the Mizukage door and knocked on the frame lightly with one knuckle. She didn't want to intrude on him but her mind wasnt centered anymore. Still in her woven combat suit, the armored plates over her vitals giving it some aesthetic geometry showed that she hasn't taken the time to change back into her civilian atire yet. Definitely out of the ordinary for her. She only wore the suit when outside of the village. Her mask dangled from her belt, looped through it and forming an odd lump on the right side of her waist. "Can I talk to you about some stuff? " She asked her former sensei.

"Of course, Taylor. Anytime. Come in." Inka stood and beckoned the Genin into his office with a small wave of his hand. He walked around to lean against the other side of his large, heavy set desk, not wanting it to get in the way of their conversation. "I'm listening."

Taylor walked into the room, only partially sitting the door behind her. She doesn't really care of others heard. She was normally super quiet and bottled up anyway. She shakily went into an explanation of feeling abandoned after inka told her to leave the fight with the demon taking on their fears and he would approach her later; only that never happened. Then her first spider had sacrificed itself to dance those in the office during the Demonic incursion, nobody approaching her at all about the loss until she was in her apartment. Even then it was an emotion sensor anbu of their village, and he more or less told her deal with it. Not that it had been his intention, but it had come across that way. She mentioned how she was reassigned a squad without so much as a word from inka, feeling further pushed away by her village and teammates. She felt like she was being punished by someone or something being shoved into a squad where she was threatened with incarceration despite that she was an aspiring hero of sorts within the village, even donning a costume , though it looked villanous. "And on top of all this s**t, my know now talks to people in annoying ways, and Jack told me he would teach me the same sage states he learned and now he's gone. Told me he would make me strong. .. Promises broken all over.." She muttered. Right on queue the knife would speak, the rope coming free of the blood gem. "Verily! The tiny wenches heart doth pound for some sort of comroddery among this conglomeration of children demons. Give the bean pole a bloody hugmmphh!" She liked beaten as she silenced it with a hand passed over the gem. The knife was warm to the touch, felt alive even.
[･･･] Inka listened, silent and as serious as the grave as one of his most precious Genin opened her heart and her pain to him. He wanted to reach out - to run his fingers through her hair like he does to Minowa when it obvoius terrors troubled his sleep. Inka wanted to lay a calming hand on her shoulder, as he did to Itoko when the Binturong became aggitated. He wanted to take away all of her pain like he wanted to do for everyone around him. And the Mizukage knew he couldn't. Not entirely. Perhaps never. Most likely his path is now to only add to it, until one of them died. So he sat, listening, hands to himself, and eyes unblinking. His was Kage, and before him cried a shinobi whose life he now controlled.
"Shinobi should never make promises." He uttered, feeling his own heart squeeze at the words. "But we do. Because to not to is to admit our deaths are always just one second ahead of us. Without promises, we might not have the strength to push that second further away, even as it takes a face, even while it is staring down at us." The Hizara's voice was low, coiled with emotion. "That isn't always enough." At this, he stood to his full height, pulling the emotion back from his features, and clasped his hands behind his back.
"I cannot always give you an option - or even a warning - for the missions, and the teammates, I assign you to. But I do expect you to overcome the trials associated with. For the sake of Kirigakure. That is the cause we serve - what I serve." A pause takes hold of the Godaime's words, but his features soften quickly during it. "I may not ever be able to make up for my own short-comings, Taylor, but that doesn't mean I can't help you whenever I can. The Mizukage Yondaime kept records on many aspects of himself. Perhaps even the Sage states. I'll see if I can find the information, and an individual to train you, to ready yourself for them. As for..." And here, Inka's eyes finally drifted down from Taylor's face to stare at the dagger. "the knife. How did you... come across it?" Indeed, it has surprised him a little too harshly to hear a - at the time disembodied - voice. It reminded Inka far too much of recent years when voices in his head were... common.

Taylor was calm again. A brief venting and she sealed the rest of her woes into her heart, bottled once more. She nosed quietly while listening to the man. One thing was attest for her, she wasn't abandoned. The little signs are there. Down to the self restraining Movment inka made when clasping his eyes behind his own back. She mimicked these actions, straightening her Back as he addressed the concern of the knife. "It appeared in a nightmare zone, replacing my old one. " She said calmly. The dagger however would speak once more. "Sniveling jakanapes! Conversing as if I don't have ears. The caged demonwolf, destroyer of worlds, dimensions and the break room last Thursday, and wrecker of human faces. The caged devil goat was born into stars itself! I was shoved into this pig sticker by some dreaming human. But I'll get free ..one day. " The disembodied voice broke into a fit of miniaturized evil laughter that made Taylor torn a light shade of pink.
[･･･] The skin around Inka's eyes tightened, helping to pull the Kage's features into a thin-lipped grimace. The 'Nightmare' their world had been turned into was a fresh disturbance on his mind - a raw wound that only served to remind him how truly broken he was before the events. The fact it took such a drastic, and dark, event to better... "unify" him was all the more disturbing for it. Still, he listened with a tight chest as the dagger somehow sang its sordid words, trying to decipher the meaning... The dreaming human had to be a reference to the late Jack Snipe. The rest... could be assumed to be references of diety figures that Inka knew a little about. His religious views didn't have him too versed in what this... thing seemed to be hailing from, but the Mizukage understood enough.
"Has it caused you any harm?" The young man asked. "Physically? Noticed any side effects emotionally? Shortness of breath, unusual aches or pains? Change in your behaviour, or higher levels of irritation?" The questions were softly asked, concern evident and paramount in the way they were delivered. Yet Inka's eyes were hard, scrutinising the way Taylor would answer.

Taylor winced when she saw inkas reaction. "Sorry" she voiced in a small voice. She had to think on it a few moments. Had it really caused any changes? Other than being annoyingly pompous. "Nothing concrete. I'm quicker to anger but I chalk that up to my company. Nothing has changed emotionally. Physically I hit a little harder it seems. But could be training. If your willing We could spar in the training grounds to asess this. But I'm not that good with my knife yet. I need work all around really" she said suddenly taking a great deal of interest in her shoes while fidgeting.

But, ultimately, he had to let it go. He couldn't father Taylor, not like this, not as the Mizukage - perhaps not ever. All he could do was-
"I'll trust your judgement on this, Taylor. I have a few more missions to assign, however, so I won't be available until alter this evening. I can write a note, however, to get you access to certain sections of the library if you have any techniques in mind to learn?"

Taylor nodded ascent as she took a breath and let it out in a soft sigh, visible in her body. She was still stressed and that helped relieve pressure from her chest. Then her features hardened into that of a soldier. She liked calm, ready and was quiet. A facade. She spoke after very little deliberation. "Fuuton, Doton, Katon, Maruton, taijutsu and Bukijutsu. I'm behind in them all. My previous studies showed I should be able to handle at most B rank for now. I'd also love to see the records on the insect sage if you were sincere about it. " She said with a level voice.
