But of course it wouldn't just git. They never did. He tossed Maebe a look (this b***h) as he hefted his weapon and swung hard. The offending paw Maebe had poked earlier came clean off, as did most of the limb attached to it.
"Shakin' ma damn head atcha, son! Yer momma didn' teach ya nuthin' worth nuthin', did she."

She couldn't take it anymore. Dawson was cracking her up, and it was hard to wipe the grin off her face. "Okay, I don't think it's going to learn it's lesson, dear." She informed him, trying so hard to push the laughter out of her voice and back down into her gut. "We'd better put it out of it's misery now, so we can get back to what's important." And it was clear, by the way her trident dug in, and dislodged the head of the lion, making it pop off like the top of a wine corkscrew. She set Thaw down against her shoulder, and watched the marble body in front of her keel over and crash onto the ground. "That's what you get when you mess with us." HP: so ded Damage: 9 Maebe HP: 20 Charge: 3/3 Stamina: 31

He grinned until his dimples were noticeable and offered Maebe a high-five. "Hell yeah!" Dawson cheered. "Tha's what m'talkin' 'bout, hah."
And then the slog in the mud began once more.

But dealing with it and the vines were much better than getting all up in arms over a simple kiss on the cheek, so there was that. He may or may not have made a show of it this time, making hulkish noises as he slowly stomped his way to the other side of the pool.

She hadn't noticed the dimples until it was too late. Her hand lifted to poke them, but instead she met an offered high five, and smirked with appreciation. "I told you we make a good team. This is why I'm not going anywhere."
But the sludge felt otherwise. The vines were all but ignored, even as they tried to snap her back. She found ways to get around them, but the black muck that snuck up on her in the water was never that easy on her. She struggled, and groaned when it pulled too hard on her leg, unwinding bandages that had still been doing their job. She fought against the current of tight, tugging darkness, but all she managed was barely getting out of the lake on the wrong side.
Remnants of the good mood Dawson had put her in were slowly being snuffed out, one by one. But a few still remained, long enough to keep her from giving up.

It was that last shred of warmth, still bubbling in her chest, that made her smile genuine when she finally trekked through and made it to the other side. "Unstoppable." She announced, trekking forward without pause.

He was not, however, immune to the giant wave that washed him all the way back.

He was pleased to report that his arms were starting to have some definition! Whether that was from hauling Maebe around, the natural response to getting his a** kicked by stone things, or some combination thereof, Dawson was obviously pleased with himself.
"How's yer leg?" he asked as he patted his arms for being such nice arms, thank you for staying and getting cooler looking arms.

The bandages were gone, and the pain had not returned. Thaw informed her that she could use it like normal, but perhaps ballet was out of the question for a while. She twirled for Dawson, earning a groan from the fire demon inside her mind. "Much better. Told you I'd be fine."

"Like, the greek ones?" She had to wonder if any god was real, when they were being thrown back and forth so much in this temple. The vines did not care that she was having a conversation. So, it was hard to have faith in anything; not that she'd had much to begin with. "Nah. Humans probably saw the stuff that comes out of Fear, you know, the monsters and all? And started to worship them. Makes more sense." It was easier to explain away the surreal, when you knew an inkling of fiction was based on truth. Stamina: 14

The implications of Maebe being right disquieted him. Luckily there was a hydra still waiting in the next room over; no time for religiously inclined existential crises when there was a giant monster who wanted him for lunch.
