Eon yipped and pounced on Ai playfully, bounding around her as if they were as young as when they'd first evolved.

Andarien shrugged. He didn't know the answers to Miyuki's questions. "Why don't you ask her?" he suggested again. "She told you her species, why not her type?"

As for how it happened, he was sure Shiro would know.

"True..." Miyuki looked back at Suki and asked her the following questions.

Suki tilted her head and yipped back which made Miyuki frown a bit. Well that made things a bit difficult.

"Apparently the typing is a person construct, the labels I mean. All she knows is that she's strong against those that are called 'dark', dragons and Pokemon that use fighting abilities."

Suki yipped some more and looked very pleased with herself.

"And... she's immune to dragon attacks," Miyuki wondered if this just meant Pokemon dragons or dragon, dragons.

For that matter, she wondered what counted as a dragon attack.

"If it's about Pokemon, then we'd best ask Shiro," was Andarien's only suggestion.

Fortunately, they hadn't started far from the camp, and they had now already arrived. It was a bright, sunny day, and Shiro was sitting outside his tent, working on his tablet while his spare battery charged beside him.

There were others about, of course, but the comings and goings that were constantly going on were pretty much ignored unless something very different happened.

It was a great thing to see Shiro sitting outside his tent, because then they didn't have to go and search for him. Though he looked busy, but Shiro always looked busy. If he wasn't in his makeshift lab he was at his tablet.

Miyuki plopped beside him, mainly because she was tired. Between trying to pour magic into that stupid seed and then having a small magic explosion, she could use a rest.

"Shirooooo.... we need advice," she spoke to her cousin, "The eevees evolved."

At first Shiro didn't react. Eevees evolving was after all somewhat expected.

"Which forms did they take?" he asked, finishing up what he was doing on the tablet.

Kaede had been following after the rest of her family, and now she poonced on Shiro.

"Hey!" the neko protested, nearly dropping his tablet. Then he spotted Soki and stared. "What ...."

"Kaede," Miyuki pointed to the playful pokemon, "Became a leafeon when she ran into my workspace. I was practicing plant growing, but Suki...."

Suki used one of her streamers to wave hi to Shiro, something she picked up from her own but was never able to do it before.

"Suki says she's a Sylveon, but that doesn't give any clue to what she is. All I know is she's not any type we know before, and Andarien says she's giving off magic."

Shiro stared at the Sylveon in silence. He was stunned. He had read through the entire Pokedex, and there was no creature like this one. Eevee had seven possible evolutions ... not eight!

... or did it even stop there?

"Miyuki also was wondering how the evolutions happen in nature," Andarien added. "Back in Gaia, the lady at the shop said that they had to have special stones to make them evolve."

Now that was a question Shiro could answer, and so he did.

"Well, it's well known that Eevees are genetically unstable," he began to explain, "so it doesn't take much sometimes to make them evolve. But ..."

He caught the look Andarien was giving him and checked himself. "Alright, simple terms." He pursed his lips and thought for a moment. "Think ... water. Its colour. Clear, colourless. Anything can change it, and it doesn't take much. Add some milk, it's white. Add some charcoal, it's black. Like that. I know the analogy doesn't hold up beyond adding a single thing but it's the same idea anyways."

He looked at Miyuki. "The stones Ai and Eon were given in their collars weren't just to make them evolve, it was to prevent them from evolving into something you didn't want them to evolve into. The stones direct their evolution, but that's it. They can be changed by other forces. Like Zeus and the static shock. Yasu and his battle with Ponydash."

He eyed Suki again. "In this case ... magic, it would seem. I ... wasn't aware that magic could affect Pokemon."

"To be fair..." Miyuki told Shiro, "The lady who sold us our first eevees and Andarien Ponydash, told us Pokemon didn't use magic in their attacks. Their attacks are by a different process."

She paused and then went onto explain.

"I mean, we always figured the other eevees evolved depending on where they lived. So forests would have leafeons, sea or rivers would have vapoureons, places with active volcanoes would have flareons and so on."

This was where the logic stopped though.

"But magic, while it can affect every living being, and be part of a living beings even if they cannot access it, normally doesn't manifest itself as pure magic. We often make it take a form, like illusions, or light, or plants. When the two ran into my experiment, I was trying to pour magic into a seed, so for that rare time, any magic not in the seed hadn't taken an element or form. That makes sense, but in nature, I can't imagine that happening. Though I guess, I should probably ask Lancerial about that."

Maybe her teacher had seen magical discharges that wasn't done by people.

"So you're wondering how that particular evolution could happen in nature," Shiro mused, trying to make sure he understood just what she was trying to learn. "Where magic might exist without any form."

He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "Look, Gaia is a magical place, and there are magical creatures. People who use it, creatures who use it ... let's face it. Accidents happen. And the magic we use had to have come from somewhere. The magic that we use - that we learn. Is it in us? Or is it around us? Was I performing magic when I summoned Ura out of that tome? Or was I activating magic that lay dormant in the tome itself?"

He said this, not sure whether Miyuki knew where Ura had come from or not.

"The point is, magic is out there. It wouldn't surprise me if Suki was a magic type Pokemon. I don't know if it's possible, but to be fair we've seen a lot that oughtn't be."
PostPosted: Thu May 15, 2014 4:11 pm

True, Gaia was far different and as her mother often said at times unpredictable. So perhaps it wasn't a stretch to see a magic type Pokemon.

"Well she exists, and she's magical, so...." Miyuki shrugged, "I think that would make it possible. None of the other eevee evolutions are surprised."

Which was a sign that they probably knew, and Pokemon seemed to know a great deal.

"Though that still creates a lot of questions, she probably has attacks only she can use," Miyuki added.

What kind of attacks did a magical Pokemon even do?

"I'm sure that's true," Shiro agreed, "but I feel it only fair to point out - Miyuki, I know about as much about this as you do. In this case, I really don't think I'll be of any help to you, as much as I'd like to be."

He shrugged helplessly. "I'm sorry."
PostPosted: Thu May 15, 2014 6:53 pm

"Don't be, we just figured we might have missed something," Miyuki waved it off, "I guess it'll be an adventure to find out."

She was sure she would get a lot of advice from Suki and maybe her teacher would be interested in this odd little Pokemon.

"On the up side, having the whole family together, it's starting to look quite colorful," Miyuki grinned looking at the whole eevee evolution family.

All they needed now was a Vaporeon or Glaceon for that splash of blue.

"Well, there are a lot of them," Shiro chuckled softly.

They were indeed beginning to look like a rainbow. And they had plenty of time to complete that rainbow.

"Hey Shiro, can I borrow your notes on Leafeons?" Andarien asked his cousin hopefully. "I want to start training Kaede properly as soon as I can."

Shiro nodded. "Sure. Just ... not now. Tonight, all right? I'm working on something at the moment."
PostPosted: Thu May 15, 2014 7:29 pm

"What are you working on?" Miyuki asked curiously.

Shiro was always working on something, so she wondered what had caught his attention now.

Shiro glanced up at Miyuki briefly before turning back to his screen. "I ... had an idea," he said vaguely. "Trying ..."

And then he was focused on his screen again.

Andarien rolled his eyes. "We'll never get anything from him now," he muttered.
