Armads the Doom Bringer

18+0 = 18. Success!

Well, that was one fourth of the hand seals down! Now he just needed to finish the rest of them. Bo Jun once again referred back to his syllabus, since it had all the images that he'd need. The fourth hand seal was the dragon, and Bo Jun could get behind that. After all, the dragon was a powerful symbol, and just about every mythology that Bo Jun knew of had at least one. Then again, he didn't know of that many, so he couldn't really say for sure. He tried his best to make the hand seal, but it sure seemed complicated. It did seem that the powerful animals had the more complicated hand seals; but such things would eventually seem easy in time.

Well, now one third of the hand seals were taken care of. The dragon was accomplished just as easily as all the others. Now, it was time to take care of the hare. It didn't seem that difficult... but those were always the ones that made life difficult. Bo Jun wasn't exactly one hundred percent sure that he had the method down for taking care of these hand seals. He had a theory that there was a method to learning them all easier, but he also knew that was a big assumption. There was always some kind of wisdom in looking for patterns in things. Then again, it was also a dangerous idea to assume that there were patterns where there probably weren't any. Regardless, it was time for the next hand seal.

3+0 = 3. Failure

Well, there it went. The first failure. Of course, it didn't set him back at all in his mind; he was used to things not working right. After all, he was only here because of a setback already. In the end, it all came down to how you reacted to things. Bo Jun wasn't one to sit back and dwell too long on past failures. Learn from your mistakes and move on in Bo Jun's mind. He tried studying the Hare hand seal again. It seemed simple enough, but there was obviously something wrong with his technique. He tried to make his hands do what he wanted them to do, but he could only hope that he was doing it right since he had no one to tell him otherwise. He could only go by the feelings that he had.

Well, it was easier to do the second time. It appeared that his method of sitting down and moving forward was a good idea. The hare was completed, and Bo Jun was truly glad for it. Now he needed to move onto the horse seal, which like the others, didn't seem that hard. Then again, it might turn out like the hare seal, which thus far had been the most troubling. Bo Jun shifted a bit, stretching out his arms and cracking his knuckles before trying again. He still had over half of the seals remaining, and they weren't going to learn themselves. Once again he tried to form the next seal, and hoped for the best that he would do it right the first time.

With the horse seal completed, Bo Jun was halfway done with the hand seals. He didn't think it was that bad all things considered. After all, aside from that one setback, he was progressing very smoothly. As such, he tried his best to keep the momentum by studying the monkey seal closely. He practiced two or three times before trying it for real so that he could keep up the pace with the second half that he did with the first. This time, Bo Jun formed the seal, and was very confident that he would succeed this time just like he had in previous attempts. The monkey seal seemed remarkably simple in relation to some of the others, notably the hare or dragon. Bo Jun assumed this wouldn't be to much of a challenge.

2+0 = 2. Failure

Well, that was what happened when Bo Jun got overconfident. Failure was always an option, and it always caused problems. But it wasn't enough to make Bo Jun give up. As such, he looked at the way the drawing depicted the hand seal, and then looked over at his own hands. He figured while failing once wasn't a problem; it wasn't something he wanted to deal with repeatedly. He tried his best to form the seals as slowly as possible. Slow and steady would ensure that he would do well this time around. At least, that was his hope. He had no proof of this, but then again it was best to hope for the best possible outcome, and expect the worst one. No reason to ruin his mood with a tiny setback.

9+0 = 9. Failure.

Again, Bo Jun met with unrelenting failure. Not only was it a pain for him, but it was breaking all the momentum that he had built up over the past few minutes. This wasn't helping him at all! As such, he decided to move as quickly as he could through everything, and spend less time thinking about monkey hand seal and more time actually doing it. Bo Jun figured that he was spending too much time thinking about the seal and not enough time doing what was supposed to be natural. He had to feel his hands move into the right position, so if he thought too much about it he was probably not doing it right. After taking another breath, he tried to make the monkey seal again.

13+0 = 13. Success!

This time Bo Jun managed to succeeded without a problem on the monkey seal. Somehow, he had managed to succeed, even though he really didn't know what he had done different. He couldn't explain it; but he did feel a difference. As such, he would attempt to do the same thing with the remaining seals. Now he had to do the ox, which Bo Jun figured was a much more difficult seal. Perhaps it was his issues with the previous seal; perhaps it was his own faithlessness in what he could do at this point; but either way he was going to do what he needed to do to complete this training session. He moved to deal with the ox seal, and silently prayed to himself that it would keep moving forward at a steady pace.

16+0 = +16

Bo Jun was now done with two thirds of the hand seals. He only had four more to go, and then he could move on to something more interesting. Bo Jun always had a hard time dealing with doing the same thing for long periods of time. It's why he was always attracted to life aboard ships. There was always something going on on a ship. On land, it was mostly boring jobs. And from the looks of it, being a ninja was going to be more boring drudgery. At the same time, he was ready to move on to the next hand seal. The ram seal looked simple compared to some of the others, but he didn't want to underestimate it. He tried making the seal, hoping that he would manage to do it correctly the first time around.

Nat 1. Failure.

Well, that went as poorly as one could expect. Actually, it went worse than any of the others that he had done thus for. In fact, he managed to hurt his hand a bit, and after silently cursing to himself, he flexed his hands a bit. They sure felt like they were better now. He looked back at the pictures of the ram seal, since that was the one that he somehow messed up. He wondered how he had managed to hurt himself on the most traditional of seals. In fact, when you thought of a ninja, you probably thought of this seal. It figured it was the most simple one that Bo Jun would screw up on. He studied the image very closely, and then tried again to make the ram seal.

2+0 = 2. Failure.

Again he failed to perform the ram seal. He managed to fail again, and it ate at him. Even so, he knew he couldn't dwell on it if he wanted to succeed at this. After all, the beginnings of all things were small. Bo Jun wasn't sure where he heard that, but he remembered on of his old shipmates saying it once. Pushing the negativity from his mind, he took a few deep breathes and tried to focus on the task at hand. He had to complete the ram seal if he wanted to move on and do all the things that ninjas were known for doing, that much was for certain. He couldn't just sit back and do nothing. As such, he tried to make the ram seal again...

As it turned out, the third time was the charm for Bo Jun. Now, he was able to complete the Ram seal, and he was thoroughly glad for it. No more would he have to struggle to complete three fourths of the required seals. Now he just had to complete the remaining three and he would be done. Now he had to deal with the rat seal, which was another seal based on an animal that he didn't understand. Most of the seals were on powerful animals... the rat just didn't strike Bo Jun as particularly powerful or worth emulating. Regardless of his personal thoughts, he moved forward by trying to perform the seal, and just hoped that he could finally be done these final three and move on to something more interesting.

Nat 1. Failure!

Again Bo Jun managed to screw up something that seemed relatively simple. If only his old shipmates could see him now! They would probably be laughing hysterically after having a few too many drinks. That's usually how it went. Still, he figured that the students were probably also laughing at him. He wouldn't be surprised if he was considered the slow one of the class! Shaking his head to try and clear it, he tried to focus on the positives instead of the negatives. Being angry at himself wasn't going to do him any good. He was better off focusing and trying harder to accomplish what he needed to before something else went wrong and he had to try it again. Bo Jun didn't like to fail, but it was only a way to show you how to be better after all.

There! Now that the rat hand seal was finished only two remained for Bo Jun to do. It hadn't been all that hard thus far aside from a few mess ups; but then again that kind of thing was to be expected when you were just starting out. He never claimed that he would be perfect, and he wasn't sure that he wanted to be either. After all, being perfect would be boring. He turned his attention now to the serpent seal, which to him was a fancy way of saying snake. He wasn't sure if there was a difference between a snake and a serpent, but they could call their hand seals whatever they wished. For now, he just tried to perform the hand seal he had as best he could and hoped for the best.

And then there was one. The tiger hand seal was all that kept Bo Jun from finishing this assignment. He had to admit, it had been a long and annoying one, but he also knew that it would do him well in the end. For now though, he still had to focus on the tiger hand seal, lest he screw it up and spend a long time on the only thing that was left for him to master in this particular assignment. Bo Jun seriously hoped that in the future, they wouldn't be as boring or monotonous as this one... but then again he knew that you always had to start with the basics. You couldn't sail a ship without knowing how to use the sails correctly or do the rigging after all. For now, he just tried to make the tiger seal.
