Arahad smiled at Miyuki over his shoulder. "Pancakes," he told her proudly.
Kaito had taught him years ago during one of his visits, and since then it had been one of Arahad's favourites - especially when he spread jam or syrup over them.
"Do you know of them?" he asked brightly.

"Grandma sometimes makes them," Miyuki replied, "She uses a heart mold and then puts strawberries into them before it cooks."
Personally Miyuki preferred chocolate, but her mommy had warned her chocolate wasn't good for ada or any of the dark haired elves at all. She thought that was sad.

"Huh ..." Arahad thought about that for a moment as he watched the pancakes begin to cook. That was an idea ... putting things into them ... "Maybe I'll have to try that sometime. Though it will have to wait until next summer, when the strawberries grow again. Right now we just have the jam."
Though the jam was good, he had to admit.

"You can make small pancakes and put jam to keep them together and have a small pancake sandwich," Miyuki told him.
She preferred red bean personally, but she knew her grandma liked strawberry and her grandfather liked peanut butter.

Arahad grinned at Miyuki. "Is that how you would like yours?" he asked her. "I can make some like that for you, if you like. We have strawberry jam, or raspberry or black currant, or gooseberry, or blackberry, or blueberry if you prefer."
Those at least were the ones he could list off the top of his head. Even now at the end of winter there were so many preservatives left that he couldn't help but wonder if his parents prepared for twice as much food as they would need each winter.

"Uhm...." Miyuki blinked.
There were so many choices! She had never known there could be so many types of jam.
"Raspberry please!"

"You got it," Arahad grinned. He flipped the pancakes expertly, then headed to the cupboard for some plates and utensils. He set two places at the counter - since it was just the two of them he didn't think they needed to go to the dining room - and then headed back to check on the pancakes.
"These ones are bigger, so I'll put them on my plate first," he decided. "Then I'll make some smaller ones for you. The smaller ones cook faster, so we'll still be able to eat at the same time."

Miyuki nodded eagerly, "That's good!"
She would like to eat at the same time as Arahad and she loved the idea of getting pancake sandwiches.
"It smells yummy...."

"I'm glad you think so," Arahad chuckled. He gave the pancakes a second flip to check them, then dished them out onto his plate. He used the flat edge of the flipper to scrape the bottom of the pan, then added a bit more butter. Once it had melted, he put in four mini-pancakes for Miyuki's pancake sandwiches.
"All right, they shouldn't be long," he grinned at her.

Miyuki clapped her hands together and her tails wagged excitedly back and forth. She had, at this point forgotten that she was down here waiting for her parents.
"Did it take you a long time to learn how to make this?"

"About as long as it takes to make it," Arahad replied, reaching inside a cupboard for a jar of jam. He set it down on the counter next to a knife, then flipped her mini pancakes to cook their other sides.
He grinned at Miyuki. "When it comes to cooking, it doesn't take long for me to learn. Nana says I have a natural talent for it. Ada says it makes sense, considering how much I love to eat."

Miyuki giggled at that, "Do you like cooking?"
She knew some people did, not always but sometimes.

"I do indeed," Arahad said brightly. "I can make the food however I like it, and I'm almost always going to like how it turns out. And if it fails, I only have myself to blame, so there's no one to be angry with. Works for me!"
He chuckled and flipped her pancakes onto a plate, then put jam on two of them and stacked the other two on top to make them into sandwiches. "Here you are!"
He passed the plate across the counter to Miyuki, then headed around the counter and sat on the stool next to her.

"Thank you!"
Miyuki grinned a foxy grin and picked up her sandwich pancakes. The best part was that she could use her fingers instead of a fork. She happily nommed on her pancake. The raspberry was sweet, if not sweeter than Gaia's raspberry jam.

Such was the scene when Haradhel walked into the kitchen just a few minutes later with the intent of preparing breakfast for everyone else.
"Good morning," she said in a surprised tone of voice. "I didn't expect you to be eating already ..."
She knew that Miyuki was an early riser in general, but that was totally different from eating already. Not that she could blame her, she liked to eat as soon as she could when she woke up, too.
Arahad just grinned at his mother. "We were hungry," he said simply. "So I made us some breakfast."
