Scheelite had stood his ground, defending his queen from the attacks that came at them. Until, at least, the crystal left the room and all his remaining strength seemed to drain away with it.

He had to admit, he felt quite a bit of pride that it was Zinkenite he saw teleport away with the crystal.

And at the same time he was really ******** jealous. Once again his partner had beaten him to the punch. And once again his partner was going to be the one earning all the praise while he sat back in a corner and watched. ******** history repeating itself all over again.

So yes, the Negaverse had won. And he'd stand by his Queen until she too decided to depart from the party before he'd drag his tired a** home to sulk. But on some level it felt like a hollow victory.

He'd get over it. Later.

Oh. It was done with?

Part of Rosalind felt responsible, but she had done as their Moon Princess had instructed-- she tried her best to get the crystal. It's just that, apparently, her best wasn't good enough. She turned to Perseus, saw her disappointment, then to Europa, who seemed equally disappointed (but somewhat confused). What, exactly, had happened, though?

Hesitantly, Rosalind reached for one last piece of the scrumptious cake, which seemed to be groaning in excruciating pain. A majority of its 'body,' after all, was devoured by eager crystal-searchers. After she had her fill of cake, the failure of the sailor soldiers began to really sink in. Rosalind couldn't help but frown-- if she would have tried harder, maybe this would have ended up differently.

Everything was happening at once.

The shield was slowly dying, the magical attacks aimed in her direction relentlessly tearing away at the dome and at her stamina. Scheelite and Serandite were defending her, other Captains and Lieutenants scattered around their monarch protectively, absorbing various attacks and magic tossed carelessly in their general direction.

The cake was everywhere, icing decorated faces of both the Negaverse and the Senshi; there was no way for the youma to make its way back to its dark mistress, not while dozens of hands were digging deeper and deeper into its depths, clawing and gnawing away at its body. The other youma were fighting with the senshi, terrorizing the civilians - one or two continued to run around aimlessly on fire.

But the moment the crystal left the building, she knew.

Zinkenite.

The young Captain's aura was gone and with it, the coveted crystal. The darkness that infested the teenager's star seed directed Beryl to his location... it was time to leave.

Before she could make her exit, a single icy fist came swinging in her direction. The hand holding up the shield released the hold, moving swiftly down to grab hold of the fist as it came rushing at her.

The force of his body pushed against her, but the tall woman stood firm. The blades of ice covering his fist began to shred into her palm, but the dark Queen refused to relinquish her hold on him, choosing instead to force energy into her fist, crushing the boy's hand within her own. Nails dug into his skin as she clenched her fist, a grim smirk meeting his determined fury as they both heard the sickening sound of fingers breaking.

With a shove, he was sent flying back - a second slam of her staff against the ground sent a forceful wave of energy out, pushing away all those nearby, friend or foe.

"We're finished here."

The words were simple, concise. A triumphant smile and a wave of her free (and bloody) hand was all it took for all officers to disappear from the room. Wolframite, in mid-fight, Lina, in mid-bite; all those belonging to the Negaverse vanished along with their Queen, leaving the Ballroom to the Destiny City police and the remaining senshi that lingered within.

Sailor Ares was happy that Zirconia was there. Happy, and very confused. But more than anything, she was ashamed of herself. Who was she? Certainly not the parallel soldier that had stalked the Black Earth with all the assumed authority of a royal queen herself. Certainly not the person whom Nehelenia had instilled such trust in. Certainly not the kind of ruler who could save anything, or anybody.

One of her worst characteristics had always been her lack of resilience in the face of great loss. Just when she thought she had crested over that, here it was again letting her down.

In the center of Negas and youma, Sailor Ares stalked toward an exit. She stopped as she passed Laocoon and Zirconia. Her eyes narrowed at the purple cat. "Where were you?" she hissed. Ares wasn't talking about today. She wasn't talking about the last month. She was talking about the day when Nehelenia and all the others died.

Zirconia allowed herself to be tucked away, almost relieved that she'd be shielded, so long as there was progress being made. Progress... frenzy... chaos... nothing?

She was frozen at the loss of power in the room. She wriggled free from Laocoon and landed semi-gracefully on the messy floor.

Tired, yellow eyes looked up to the cavalier at his question, but she had no answer. Failure was crushing, and she was tired of being crushed, so she would find him an answer when her frazzled mind regrouped and wasn't so unsure.

Flicking one paw at a time, she tried to ignore her own disgust and trotted over to make contact with the pulsing feeling of nearby Ares, almost to make sure she was really, physically there and not a wishful hallucination. She was tempted to stop and tell off that impertinent civilian addressing her cavalier but she was far too eager to see one of her senshi again.

She watched her pound a fist through a youma and just stared for a moment. If she had it her way, the senshi would never have to feel such a failure. It was her fault, her failure. She had been entrusted with a task and so far she had let victory slip away so easily.

Rather than say anything, she just cautiously padded up and gave the senshi of smoke's leg a gentle nudge with her forehead.

"I'm sorry," She said, her head bowed just slightly. It was all she could say.

Beryl's final wave of energy knocked Bellatrix onto the floor and pushed her on her stomach close, or at least semi-close to where Xavier was. Oh damn,... Was her thought when she saw him and the state he was in. Bell looked back where Beryl was with a scowl as she tried to pick herself up, but Beryl was soon gone.

A cry of frustration came from the Senshi of Fortitude. Damn it ALL!
Bellatrix, wearily crawled over to where Xavier was, and did her bet to drag him out from under the table. The best she could do was be a pillow, and gently brush his hair out of his face. She carefully noted the broken arm.
Xavier never should have gotten mixed up in this war...

Sailor Ares stiffened at the cat's touch. A part of her wanted to reach down and pet the cat that had been a bastion for them all. But a stronger part wanted to be alone, alone to suffer her failures with no one to rely on but herself. She pulled away from the cat, fighting eye contact with anyone.

As the Negas disappeared, so did Ares. Only she dove headfirst through a mirror, a whisper of sadness rippling off the surface for an instant before it stilled.

She was gone.

One by one, Sailor Taranis put down youma (with the aid of others), trying to pick his way toward the blue-haired general before she could escape him. But she did. She slipped through his fingers again. Just like the night she attacked Dani.

In a whisper, the room was devoid of the Negaverse.

Taranis had watched as Beryl crumpled Castor's fist, too slow to do anything. Out of impulse, he crossed to the senshi's side, crouching. One hand reached out to his friend -- and then stopped.

His blue eyes cooled to ice. "You know," he said, "maybe your Negaverse girlfriend will come back to help you with this. You don't need us. You don't need senshi." Sailor Taranis stood with a flourish, and then walked calmly from the room.

He didn't look back.

It was as he was smuggling Devi out of the convention center that he felt the disappearance of the Crystal. All the fight was instantly gone. He felt tired, worn absolutely ragged. "s**t" Summoning the last reserves of his strength he kept going with Devi. They had to get out, there was no point in staying any longer. Yes his teammates were still inside, but he wasn't any use to them now. He was amazed he was still Orion and hadn't powered down.

"Gotta keep you safe, gotta get out..." He kept repeating the words over and over as he stepped out of the hole in the wall an arm around Devi, half leaning on her. "Can't stop" And the Senshi of Meteors didn't stop until they were two blocks away and hidden behind an office building. He collapsed there, back against the wall, the stress of the night showing on his face. There were times he hated being a senshi, this was one of them.

Devi stood in shock until Orion started to carry her out. Her body felt limp when the queen had left. Admittedly, her lack of knowledge about crystals or Senshi-Negaverse relations prevented her from really understanding what had just happened. But she knew that whatever had happened, the Senshi failed tonight. And she - or Sailor Requiem, at any rate - was partly to blame. She needed to train, she needed to be more active and utilize her powers. She can't afford to mess up and trap her teammates in a coffin again. But not tonight, she was far too inexplicably tired.

As Sailor Orion carried Devi out, she closed her eyes, only to reopen them when they stopped several blocks away from the scene.

It hit. The blade HIT, and with it came the satisfaction of seeing the blade dive into the soft side of the senshi. His eyes widened in shimmering happiness and sharp victory in seeing the cool of his weapon pull into the body and maroon blossom about the slender blade. The one virgin white stained, soaking in spattered blots that said that this was a cut. A deep cut. A lasting, hopefully scarring cut that would cause lasting pain. Did he hit bone? A major organ? Was it fatal? He wanted to know. He wanted to see Castor fall, but before he could even enjoy seeing his weapon stay perfectly set in the Eternal's side, his eyes rose up to the still picture of the Queen holding the senshi's hand. The Heaven's Fury that so damaged him, and she held it without shying away, met it head on, and held it in her very fist.

He was left stunned and breathless. To be reminded of that day, that fist, and see the Queen hold it in her very hands and cause so much suffering to Castor in the process of her own pain, was a level of power he felt was hard to let his mind wrap over, and yet he felt blown away by it. And just like that, he felt his chain tug as Castor's body flew away and left his own weapon to fall out of the senshi's body and clatter on the confetti-strewn ground.

It was then that the world focused back in. His eyes shot out as he heard Uranophane, and somewhere in the crowd of anger, of frustration, of triumph and shock, was Uranophane laughing through it all. In all his narrowed focus on Castor, he failed to notice that the crystal left, but it had, and the laughing Captain he trained with laughed in a manner that greatly matched her mad scientist uniform.
They won…?
And it was then that Beryl stood, tired and done with everything, that she announced their leaving. Before Wolframite could even collect himself. Before he could even consider going after Castor and continuing their fighting or at least hitting him when he was down, they were gone. The world pooled to black, and they were gone.

And while he didn't have a starseed.

While he didn't have a crystal.

He did manage one thing.

To show Castor he was alive and to gain on prized hit to his side. For this, he couldn't feel as if he had personally failed. He tried, and he accomplished something. He'd take the small victory while others took the larger ones.

s**t.
s**t.
So close. So damn close. Castor had come that close...but it was for nothing. Watching the Queen vanish as he fell into a heap against a wall, Castor didn't want to look at his hand. He'd heard the sound no human wanted to hear. Bones broken, smashed. Experience told him that shards of his own attack had dug into his skin. He needed a hospital. But as he scanned to room, he couldn't force himself to leave.

And then, Taranis stepped into view. Blue eyes feel to the floor. He knew what he'd done. What he'd prevented. What he'd caused. Watching the senshi he'd call a friend fade, Castor make an attempt to stand. A sharp pain in his side, caused him to stumble back to his knee. That damn Captain. His dagger had gotten his side. And from the suddenly feeling of cool moisture on his pant leg, it was deep.

Castor needed a hospital, but with this many wounds, no hospital staff would write a broken fist and a deep cut to the side as causalities. Not with how they were made. Forcing his body to move, Castor let his legs do the work for him. He'd always called himself a creature of habit. Now, he was heading back to a place he used to frequent. He was heading back to the shadows of the red light distrct, to the places where they didn't ask questions. To where he didn't have to think about how he'd just failed.

He got a few feet before his foot slid on some cake.

It wasn't his night. not at all.

Nemesis was finally freed from her 'handicap', having been unable to help anyone when she could barely move around the room and defend herself. But, she realized grimly that her freedom had come at a cost. The Negaverse had made off with the crystal, her objective, what she felt she had needed to get no matter the cost. It was gone! The chaos had dissolved away as all the Negaversers left the room. "<********>" she hissed, angry at herself, and well, naturally at every other failure of a senshi in the ballroom right now.

How had they been outmatched in this? It wasn't THAT ******** hard to grab a goddamned crystal. She was pissed, and there was no way in hell she was going to stay here and waste her breath screaming at every other fail!senshi (which was all of them in her esteemed opinion right now) in the room. Pushing herself up off of the floor, she took a glance at her surroundings. God, this sucked, this sucked so ******** much.

The best she could do was be a pillow.

"Bellatrix?" Europa called, uncertain of where the other girl had gone in all the ruckus. Themis was an even bigger issue - she hadn't seen him at all since the fighting had begun. "Themis?"

Luckily, the answer to both questions was the same place, and the scout hurried to join her friends. "Bellatrix!" she exclaimed, sliding under the table. "Themis!"

And then she realized Xavier had powered down. "Oh," she said, backpedalling. "Zay."

She glanced apologetically at Bellatrix and explained, "They're the same person." Xavier would understand her outing him. They were all senshi here. It wouldn't matter.

Wincing at the sight of his arm, Europa said, "We should probably try to get some help - the paramedics should be here soon. We should power down."

In a flash, Europa was Tallulah again.
PostPosted: Tue Nov 02, 2010 7:21 pm

As Bellatrix, her reactions were a lot sharper, and perhaps more barbed. When Europa came over calling Xavier Themis, the looks she shot was perhaps along the lines of, 'what the hell can't you recognize your own friend?' Then when Europa explained they were one in the same well,...had Bellatrix been Bell at that moment, she perhaps would have given a greater reaction. Instead all she did was look back to Xavier and said, "I see."

Bell couldn't power down yet. She needed to maintain this strength. If she didn't, she wasn't quite sure she wouldn't be able to not give in to her usual bleeding heart self. Bellatrix didn't explain that though. No. She was just....very quiet right now.

Everything kept happening like a blur.

Her tiara cut through Serandite's body guard, and while Bellatrix and Neso took the Captain's attention away from her, Chronos was busy being preoccupied with the youma which now headed her way. Tiaras were thrown as she battled, until the energy of the crystal suddenly faded and Beryl announced her depature.

No.

No, no, NO!

While a small voice in her was telling her that it wasn't her Crystal, at least, Chronos pushed the voice aside as it was taken over by anger and fury that they had failed. She grasped onto Neso's arm, just as Flora reached out to take Neso's hand. "Wait."

"Are there any Guardian Cats here at all? I need to talk with any of you!" Chronos yelled over the chaos. She needed information; she wasn't about to let this go. And then to, Neso, "Where's Chibimoon?" I can't lose her! Who knows when I might get to see her again? "Tell Zue or any Zodiacs or Handmaidens you know that you want to see Princess Chronos!"
