((XD By the way, before you accuse me of not knowing proper English, I meant to do that. Just to show what two years of being a mercenary can do to people, even a highly educated prince.))

Aki rolled his eyes as Stein corrected him. For a moment, it felt like he was back in the classrooms he had been in as a child, but the moment quickly faded. He caught Stein's reaction as he mentioned his mother. "You must have...really loved her...huh?" He tried to imagine what Stein felt like. The closest thing he could relate to Stein's loss was the loss of Alice and his inability to do anything to protect her. It wasn't quite the same, but...
He shook his head when Stein asked him if there was anything else he wanted to know. Most of his questions had been answered, and the few that remained he didn't really want to hear the answers to.

Stein nodded, trying not to fall back into nostalgia. "She was a wonderful woman. There was no one like her. You were very lucky to have her as your mother." Crap, he had to stop thinking about this. It was making him feel crappy and weak. "Letting you die makes me feel terrible, since I'm abandoning her one child. Not to mention that you would have been my child." He thought for a moment. "You would have looked better, though."

"No more questions? Ah, well. Then, I'll take you back. Try to stand Damon. I know he's a pain in the a**, and he's got the weirdest stares, but if you remember that he was saner than I was when we were children, it might help." Stein dropped the cigarette and crushed it under his foot, then stood up straight (he'd been leaning on the counter) and strode towards the door. "Come on, then."

User Image Renka continued to clean his blade for a bit longer before looking the blade over, satisfied, and resting the shaft on his shoulder. He stared at the floor for a little while then pulled a sapphire pocket-watch from his coat pocket and opened it to look at the picture he had in there, a gentle melody started when he'd opened the watch.

Aki stood from where he was sitting. Then he suddenly remembered something about his mother. "You were the one she was writing letters to all those years, weren't you?" he asked.

Bjorn waited while James went off to find the girl. He looked up at Renka...what the man was doing was probably a good idea, with the fight they would have. Bjorn heaved his massive frame out of the chair, causing it to creak almost as if in relief that the large man was out of it, and he walked over to his bag. He grabbed a whetstone out of it and walked back to his spot, the chair giving another creak as he sat back down, picked his claymore off the ground, and began to run the whetstone along the blade's edge, sharpening it not to a fine edge (too fine and it would chip and crack), but not to a dull one either (which wouldn't cause a lot of damage), more to a middle of the road one.

Stein stopped, turned, blinked. Then, slowly, he placed a hand to his forehead. "So someone did catch her, huh? No wonder she stopped. I would have thought it would have been her husband." He lowered his hand. "Yes. We wrote letters on condition that she never read mine and I never read hers. Initially, I planned to never write back at all, but I couldn't do it. I'm not a strong person. Of course, I'm sure she cheated every once in a while. I did too." He waved his hand. "It's not so important, anyway."

James hurried down the road, the thought that every minute brought Aki even closer to death looming above him. His life was in their hands, and James wasn't sure if they would be able to save him without help. So he prayed to Aluminas that Kari was in town.
James arrived at the house Kari had been staying in when he left two years ago. It was still in pretty good shape. Praying he approached the door and tapped on it.

Lucky for James, Kari was there. She wouldn't have if it had been a day earlier. She had recently been traveling and had just been passing by Tinto and decided to stay. Kari opened the door and was surprised to see James there. She'd seen the posters and honestly didn't think he'd still be in town. "Wh-What are you doing here?" she asked him quietly, obviously shocked. Then she shook her head. "Come in before someone sees you." She then led James into the living room. "Now what's going on? Why are you wanted, and why are you here?"
James shook his head. "I don't have time to explain. We need your help, Kari," he said.
"What? We?"
"I met an ex-captain of the Faren army, Bjorn, and an ex-soldier, Hana, along with the supposedly dead prince. The prince has been captured by Gailor and we need your help to rescue him before he's executed."
Kari was even more confused than before. "Huh? What?"
"Please...Help us. We can't rescue him alone. Please..." James begged.
"...All right. I'll help. But you owe me an explanation after all this is over."
James nodded. "I promise you that I'll explain everything in detail."

-------------------------------------------------------------

Aki remained silent for just a moment. "You meant a lot to her. Though she didn't read your letters, I could tell how happy she was just knowing you sent her one. After I saw her writing a letter, I asked her who it was for. All she said was someone really close to her. Now I know what she meant by that," he said.

Stein blinked, then let his eyes go wandering away. If he could stop himself from getting all sentimental, from seeing her smiling face whenever she was mentioned, or hearing her laughter...

"STEIN! Sweet daisy field, man, it doesn't take THAT LONG to do a normal check-up! Stop being a pansy b***h and get your next patient!" Tak was not tactful, despite what his name might imply.

Stein facepalmed. "Fine. I'm coming." He turned to Aki. "Tomorrow, when you die, tell your mother I loved her. It would put me at ease." With that, he strode back into the cell room, where Tak appeared to be threatening some woman. Stein ignored her and opened the cell for Aki before closing it behind the boy. He turned to Aki's cellmate. "Damon. How are you?"

"Fine, thank you. Last night I dreamed I hung you to a wall with knives and stabbed nails into your head until you looked like Nailboy."

Stein seemed unaffected by this statement. "So you slept? How long has it been since the last time?"

"Oh, y'know. Weeks, months...it could've been billions of years, for all I know."

The two chattered on like this, with Stein asking questions, Damon giving vague answers, and Stein jotting this or that or the other thing down. Eventually, Stein seemed to have what he needed, nodded, stood, and left the room. Damon settled back into a corner and fixed his gaze upon Aki. There is nothing more nerve-wracking than just a stare. Words and voices and threats are useless, as are giggles and strange eyes. If you want to disturb someone, just stare. They will be trying to claw their way out of whatever barricades them in minutes.

Kai sat silently in front of an exotic game board, his arms crossed, and face in a scowl. Pieces were arranged all over the board, evidence that it was in use. The pieces were colored two different colors, a color for each side. While it looked like a complete random setup to the untrained eye, Kai knew the purpose, location, and motive, of every piece, a trait that had caused his student no end of frustration.

However, at the moment, it was his student that was trying Kai's patience. Very few things irritated Kai, but tardiness and indecision were two of them. Two traits that his pupil have been showing in great quantity during the duration of their game; which Kai fondly calls "tactical training." Kai heaved a sigh, recalling all the grueling sessions in this class. Perhaps her strength isn't in this area.

"It's your move,"
Kai said clearly, just loud enough to be barely heard by his student. "Kari."

((Sorry I disappeared the last three days. I was really busy Thursday, I passed out the moment I got home from school on Friday(11:30am) and slept until 8:00am this morning, and I was really busy today. So sorry.

But, on a brighter note, I'm now on summer vacation. ^^))

Kari had already seemed to forget about their game. She wasn't very good at it, anyway. She flinched slightly as Kai called to her. She turned to him. "Oh, my apologies, Master Kai," she said, bowing her head.
James had been too panicked to notice the other man in the room. The surprise was quite obvious on his face. "Huh?" He looked over. The man was by no means old, only about the same age as Hana was, yet even James could tell that he was no ordinary young man, and that's even without the fact that Kari called him "master." "Who...are you?" he asked.

Kai scanned the newcomer with an inquisitive eye. Though usually carefree, and smiling, Kai found himself in a foul mood today, due to a contribution of various factors that would take a lengthy amount of time to list. This foul mood caused him to to slam his fan on the table, causing a loud crack to be echoed about the walls.

Laying both hands on the table, Kai looked at the boy, before sighing. "You barge into OUR house uninvited," Kai stated wearily, rubbing his temple with his right hand. "And then demand to know who I am? What is the world coming too." Kai let out an exaggerated moan. Reaching out, he grasped a cup on the table, in which was the tea Kari had brewed for him.

"Would it not be better to introduce yourself first?" Kai asked rhetorically, eyeing his tea with fake interest. She is getting rather well at making tea, though.

User Image Renka was lost in his thoughts..it was easy to see since his usually blank mask had lifted slightly as he actually fell asleep, revealing a peaceful expression as he dozed. He'd left his pocket-watch open and the gentle melody continued to chime, though his fingers were covering the picture that was stuck in the lid.

Kari looked between Kai and James. James was obviously quite panicked at the prince's situation, and Kai was obviously quite frustrated. "Erm...Master Kai, this is James. He's the grandson of the village elder and an acquaintance of mine. He-" she began, but James cut in.
"I have been traveling with the prince of Faren for a while, who survived the invasion of Faren, along with a few others. However, he has been captured by Gailor and will be executed at dawn if we don't rescue him. I came here hoping to receive help in that task," James said. "So I ask of you. Help us rescue Aki."

"I've heard..." Kai stated softly, eying the tea Kari had brewed. "About the capture of the Prince, and his deemed execution; it has caused quite the commotion here." Kai kept his eyes on the tea, though his mind had wandered off to different matters. She would not let the man die so easily, Kai thought. Then how could he be captured, and on the brink of execution? Indeed, what does she have plan for our Dear Prince?

After a moment more of deep silence, Kai set the cup of tea down on the table. It seems like Lotana would now play my piece...

"Kari," Kai spoke suddenly, his voice mild and calm. "What do you think we should do, about our Dear Prince?"

Kari looked at her young master, wondering what he was thinking. When he asked her what she thought, she faced him and stood with a straight back. "I believe we should help. As a citizen of Faren, it is my duty to do all I can to restore her," she said. "That, and the prince is the one person I believe can help me avenge my village."
