Entering for Rhyme~ ~Your Name:Bardess Ookami
Rhyme's Talent: Words of Wisdom. I chose this because she always seems to have some adage to fit the situation, or when speaking her own words, sounds wise and older then her years.
Rhyme's Home: Dream valley. Beat says that before she died, Rhyme was full of dreams. Beat made up a dream of his own to help rhyme keep moving in the game. I think coming home to a dream fits her perfectly.
Prompt Number: 2
Quote:
So now you're playing this really weird thing called the Reapers' Game and you've found this guy, Beat, to be your partner. Because of Beat's entry fee, you don't remember that he is your brother. What do you think of this guy when you first meet him? How in the world do you decide to form a pact with him, anyway? (you may play Beat for this prompt as well)
Prompt Reply:Rhyme groaned her way awake and looked around. The reapers’ game. Some of it had been explained to her, but she was sure there was more that she was missing. Things she was not told. Well, experience was the best teacher. She would have to learn and do her best. Right? She took a deep breath and shook her head, unsure. Perhaps not. If she won the game, that meant some one else would loose, right? Did she have anything worth going back to that was worth hampering some one else? Not really. She had no dreams, no hopes She couldn’t even remember how she died. She glanced down and her eyes caught on her necklace. He brother had gotten it for her but... she couldn’t remember him. He was older, but that was all she could recall. Was he away at school, maybe? Probably. She was sure he had dreams, even if she could not remember what they were.
She looked around and saw a guy looking pretty lost. Rhyme couldn’t help but smile a bit. Something about him just made her relax. Some times it was best to trust her instincts, she decided. She headed over to him as he woke up.
“Nice to meet you,” Rhyme said to him.
He blinked at her, seeming confused, disoriented. She couldn’t blame him.
“I’m Rhyme. Are you playing the reapers’ game as well?”
“What the h*** yo?” he asked, seeming startled.
Rhyme laughed a bit. “I’m Rhyme. Nice to meet you.”
Still seeming stunned, and a little upset, he nodded. He closed his eyes, looking down. He seemed upset and Rhyme was about to ask if he was okay when he spoke again. “Yeah, man, I’m Beat, yo.”
Rhyme chuckled lightly. Did he think she was a boy, or was that just his way of speaking? “You should find a partner soon then,” Rhyme advised him. “Just make sure you pick carefully. Haste makes waste.”
“Yo.... we should partner, ya know?” Beat said, still seeming a bit off. Rhyme was worried about him, but then, she supposed the shock of being dead could explain away much.
“You should find a partner who wants to win,” Rhyme said a bit wistfully.
“You... dun wanna win?” Beat asked, stunned.
Rhyme shrugged a bit and sat beside him. “No reason to go back.” She started to say more when she saw something coming at them. Before she could react, the noise was on them. She had pins but they weren’t working. She had nothing to go back for...but... she didn’t want to die! Why weren’t the pins... right. She needed a partner to fight the noise. But... She glanced at Beat. He wanted to be her partner, but he also should have a chance to win. Beat... he saw her eyes, she was sure of it.
“Make a pact with me, yo.”
“You should choose some one better, you should make a real choice!” she cried as she dashed aside. Beat caught her hand and pulled her out of the way of the noise.
“We aint got time for thinkin, make a pact with me, or we’re both chow.”
Rhyme nodded a bit. She didn’t want to die, and.. she didn’t want him to die either. Who ever he was, she liked him already. “Alright!”
The battle that followed was intense. Beat just bullied his way through hat ever got in his way, but Rhyme soon figured out the way to optimize his power. “Cards!” she called to him in warning, as thy fought.
“What?” Beat called back, jumping on his skateboard to push back what looked like an origami frog with tribal markings.
“Make the cards match, don’t drop them. Then go for the skull. You’ll do more damage that way!” she advised, trying herself to fight. The psychs were harder to use then she would have expected, well, if she had known what to expect in the first place. “Match them! Work smarter, not harder!”
“I’m fightin, not workin, yo!” Beat protested, drawing a giggle from Rhyme.
After what seemed like an eternity, the battle was over. Beat and Rhyme slumped against each other.
“I suppose we are partners,” Rhyme said, once she got her breath back.
“seems like,” Beat confirmed.
“I’m sorry,” Rhyme whispered, meaning it.
“What? What for?” Beat asked, seeming stunned. “I’m that one who...”
“You want to win, yes?”
Beat nodded. “Yeah, we’re gettin outta this place alive, you an’ me.”
“I don’t have anything to go back to,” Rhyme said, looking away, shrugging.
“Whatchu mean?!” Beat asked, jumping back in surprise.
Rhyme chuckled again. Something about him cheered her right up. The topic however, was more somber and her smile faded. “What’s the point? I have nothing to go back to.”
“Corse you do, yo. You gotta go back and follow your dreams, live ‘um big.”
Rhyme chuckled again and shrugged. “I don’t have any dreams though. Why come back to life if I’ve got nothing to live for?”
He seemed startled, jumping back, and then... thoughtful. It looked some how odd on his face, but it also made her smile. She felt... comfortable around him. “I know you have a dream, you just haven't dreamed it yet’sall.” he finally said.
“Do you have a dream?” she asked him, curious.
“Ah, yeah, sure I got a dream, yo. I’m gonna be the best...” he looked around a bit.
“Best?” Rhyme asked.
His eyes looked down then he grinned and flipped up his skateboard, holding it before him proudly. “The best skateboarder in the world, yo.”
Rhyme smiled, “That’s a great dream.”
“Yeah, an ta do tht we hafta get back ta the real world, ya hear me, we hafta win the game.”
Rhyme nodded, standing. “Alright. Then we should plan.”
“We aint got time for plants!”
Rhyme chuckled. “Plans, not plants. We need to survive seven days. It will not be easy.”
“Then let’s go, we gotta get to 104!”
Rhyme looked at the timer on her hand and nodded. Time was running out. She started to move towards the building, then stopped short, staring at her hand again. “It’s gone,” she said, stunned.
“Whats gone, yo?” Beat asked.
“The timer,” she said, holding up her hand.
Beat leapt back, hands over his face. “BWAAAAAAAA!” he exclaimed. “Then we lost, yo?!”
“I do not think so,” Rhyme said. “We still had time left, but it is odd. Oh, by the way,” she said, looking at him.
“Yeah?”
“It would be helpful to me in attempting to win the game...”
“Yo, English, please?”
Rhyme smiled. “It would make it easier for me to be your partner... if I knew your name,” she said with a warm smile.
Rhyme had no idea why he suddenly looked a little sad. She listened as he told her his name, and then braced as the pink haired reaper, Yashiro approached them. The timer might be gone, but it was not yet game over.
