Slowing down in her demand for food as her hunger began to be satiated, Arioth swung her head around to glare up at the stands. Some were looking at her, but not all of them! She wanted ALL of them to look at her! It was her right!

Picking up on Arioth's agitation, Rinfala scooted closer to lay a hopefully soothing hand on the gold dragonet's hand. Arioth paused to regard her with one whirling orange eye before it blazed into what seemed to be a perpetual red state.

They should look at ME! she declared, flaring her wings wide as she screeched at the stands. I will make them look! They will look!

Agh, crackdust! Ignoring the heads that turned at such an outburst, Rinfala pressed her hand more firmly against Arioth's hide. "I'm looking. That's enough."

The big man felt his jaw go slightly slack with surprise as the little green twistd about, and Inaari reacted so strongly that there was no way she hadn't Impressed. Just... like that? His arms felt particularly heavy as he watched them go after she gave him a nudge and chirped something cheerful that he missed, and he realized belatedly he should be clapping. He did so a little awkwardly after a moment, then more heavily as the actual emotion came into play. He was glad she'd Impressed, she deserved it... but it was a little hard to grasp that it happened so fast, especially after the first few angry dragonets.
~

"Inaariiiiiiii!" J'riar would roar from the Stands, pounding his hands so hard together that they hurt. She'd done it! He was so elated, grinning and reaching out to grab N'tos to the shoulder to shake him affectionately.

He is--oh--almost my favorite person! Ianquith confided in Hers, clearly marking her rider as number one on the chart. Then the Impression happened, and she trilled her congratulations, her eyes a merry green in turn. This was much nicer, yes. Came the happy little croon.

And the Queen screeched.

Ianquith ducked down unhappily, huddling more closely to the brown as though he could help shield the sound. Why was she so upset? Why did she have to be upset? Her eyes were a bit more yellow again, whirling with the first signs of distress.

Why was it taking so much time between eggs? The crowd was growing restless again. The hatching was starting to really stretch, it was well past a decent sleeping hour at this point. If it continued at the current rate of hatchling, long pause, hatchling, longer pause, they'd be here until dawn! And just when they thought maybe, maaaybe they weren't going to hatch, the striking Quarter Horse Egg began to rock.

This one made quick work of its shell, purposely scratching against its prison until cracks began to appear. A few good shoves, the young dragon was revealed. The crowd gasped as the blue stood; he was ever but as handsome as his egg! He stood and stretched his wings, giving a great, lazy yawn as he eyed everyone slowly. Well. He certainly didn't look like he was in any great hurry. At least he wasn't another wild one, right?

As he began to see movement around the eggs once more...at least he hoped he saw movement. A part of him had a dreadful feeling in the pit of his stomach as he hoped that these eggs would indeed hatch. The rumors had been very wide and varied anything from dead dragonets to crazy ones. So far, most of them seemed...well sort of normal; however, it was only half of the eggs and these others were taking their time...if they were alive at all.

Veyes tried to be patience then saw the rocking and cracked! It was a blue! He sighed in relief and started to hope that the rest would soon follow this one. He couldn't help but think that as late as it was, that maybe the rest of them might be just napping considering how the little blue seemed to...yawn. Which in the end, made Veyes' yawn too.

Selachii had been getting rather tired, if he admitted it -- the constant surge of excitement, then wash of let-down seemed to be taking its toll, as well as the exhausting heat and the late hour -- but his eyes jolted open as he saw the pretty, sleepy blue spill out onto the sands. "Another one!" he said happily, curious, as he rubbed one brown eye with the heel of his hand.

Firyal whirled instinctively at the young gold's screech and regretted it instantly as the torquing motion tore some of the newly-clotted cuts the gold had given her, adding to the bloodstains on her tunic and robe. She felt bad for whomever had to clean this batch of Candidate robes. It would probably be her if she didn't Impress. Life did seem to go that way.

She turned away from Rinfala's gold, though, when she heard a scratching sound coming from one of the eggs. She watched as a blue dragon eased out of his shell and yawned. The pace of the Hatching had slowed significantly, and this little blue didn't look like he was inclined to hurry it along. She was glad that she was standing among the front row of female Candidates, she decided, even if it was potentially a dangerous place to be. The view was infinitely better.

Ollen hopped from foot to foot the heat putting her at edge, she mopped sweat from her brow with a sleeve and peered across the sand at the eggs. Were all Hatchings like this? No, her lessons said Hatchings could happen at any time and that the hatchlings moved at their own pace, these dragonets were coming when they felt fit and no one else.

Her eyes caught sight of the egg as it began to crack and she let out a small gasp as the blue broke through his shell and let out a yawn. What a lazy little thing. She'd messed up that guess in her betting she thought for sure the quarter horse would be a small brown. Giving an indifferent shrug Ollen watched him with as much interest as she watched the others. Somewhere here that blues' lifemate was standing, hopefully. The boy she met on the coastline had impressed a blue, would his humor change because of it? The young woman had seen the new goldrider around the weyr, and placed a bet on her firelizard eggs, would that fierce queen change her?

Kagiya screwed up her face and tried to figure everything out, about why daddy might be upset. Alas, it was hard to imagine what he could be unhappy about at a Hatching, besides the maulings. "Wow, that gots to be hard! Is it like when they're feeding firelizards?" Who seemed to nearly always want to be fed, in Kagiya's opinion. Just then, an egg rocked on the sands, and her attention became riveted on it. When it hatched, she peered at it in open admiration and with frank curiosity. "Daddy? We gots a lot of Blues, right?" Was that the way it was supposed to be?

Hand still bone-crushingly gripped in Raedue's, neither boy having moved much after the green had warbled her way into the stands, Zafir eyed the new little blue. Such a gorgeous color! The longing in the pit of his stomach tripled in that moment, but with it came a swarm of other emotions too, and not the least of them was a crushing sense that he was not worthy of the lovely little creature. Not worthy of any of them.

He counted his breathed, in to the count of seven, out to the count of four, trying not to let himself get carried away.

Oh, but he was lovely.

"Who do you think he's for, then?" The weaver managed to say, voice tight as the wear of so much waiting and watching began to take its toll on him. "Anyone you might know?"

Uuni didn't seem to mind that Kess was using her as a support to stand. In fact, she leaned a little towards the girl herself as the latest egg began to move two and fro.

A smile perked at her lips. This was more like she thought the hatchings should be.

He was relaxed and not in any hurry; not unlike Kess actually. "Well, he doesn't look like he'll run anyone over soon," she noted at a whisper.

With their location, their wasn't really any reason to move at all. Perfect vantage point. Her heart skipped once as his eyes wandered in their direction.

Actually, it was a bit unnerving in its own right. It was still much, much better than a mauling.

Oh! What a beautiful blue!

Alanna was actually finding herself getting concerned at the time it took between eggs for one of them to move..however, every time she found herself breathing a sign of relief before she'd look over the rest of the candidate, debating.

A blue, huh? Perhaps it would go to a boy. It was a rather handsome little boy, so going to a boy would only be suitable... wouldn't it? Well... she'd have to see. Perhaps such a beautiful blue would find itself more at peace with one of the girls.

Ooooh man.. she just had to look between all of the candidates to debate which one of these people standing there with her would be the luckiest.

Pick Veyes, or Ren, or Allende they were all right there! Go dragon go! L'thor actually found himself bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet. He was overtired, sleep had been scarce the last few nights, entirely his own fault and a lot of fun but still exhausting. How long was all of this going to take? It wasn't usually this drawn out, he was sure! Shells he hoped they all did hatch in the end. Suppressing a yawn, the slender rider fixed his over-tired, bright-eyed attention on the new dragonet; go, Impress them! One of them anyway, not all of them obviously.

FINALLY! Another egg cracked and a blue spilled to the sands. This one Darcir had a better view of, and he had to admit, the creature was indeed beautiful. Though all the dragonets had their own charm and appeal, when it came to colour, this blue certainly was impressive. And perhaps that was how it should be. . .

Now, to whom might he seek out? Darcir was pleased that this one didn't seem violent or obnoxious like the screeching queen he'd heard just a moment before. . . but he certainly didn't seem to be in any sort of haste. In fact, from what he noticed, the creature was a little lazy. . . . Perhaps he was just tired? The hold bred man tried to give the dragonet the benefit of the doubt, but laziness was not a good trait in a dragon. He'd never met a lazy dragon before (only lazy people) but perhaps it was just a stage.

There was a lot of work to be done. . . .And if a dragon wanted to sleep the day away, then they were to be in quite a shock upon their arrival. Candidate lessons, flight lessons, wing drills, thread fall formations . . . And then the physical work of flying and chewing firestone and all that. Really, even the dragons weren't cut out of work . . .as it should be, o'course.

Expression still stiff, Darcir studied the blue and waited to see whom he sought out. There was food waiting, weren't dragons usually pushy in seeking out their chosen or desirous to be fed? Come on now. We're all waiting on you. . . . There's food waiting, and of course, your chosen is also waiting. Don't you want to be united soon? Or are you really in not much a rush? He wasn't being condescending to his thoughts (he rather doubted any dragonet would hear them anyway) but still. . . .best to encourage the blue to do something, anything, than just stretch and stand there.

No need to show off so pointedly, either. Even if the blue was ridiculously pretty and had every right. One needn't become a peacock or so obviously vain. . .

A'bri wished that Varth would be as content to ignore his Gold sister as he seemed content to ignore the Greens and Blues that were appearing slowly, but no. Varth seemed entirely too focused on Arioth for his liking. When she screamed, Varth threw his wings wide, and let out a little bellow of his own.

:Mine! Mine, I want them to see me, not her!: Varth whined at A'bri, flapping his little wings and stirring up sand.

"Ack! Varth, enough, you'll get sand all over the food!" A'bri chided, trying to settle his dragon. Varth was not in the mood to be settled, however, clearly still agitated by Arioth's attempt at grabbing attention. He hissed and beat his wings again, his eyes swirling a vibrant orange. "Hey, hey now," A'bri continued, slowly running his hands along Varth's neck. "Easy. I'm paying attention to you. I know you're the best dragon that's going to hatch tonight. Let her scream, if she must- aren't you better than that? You don't need to huff and puff to get people to notice you."

Slowly, the orange faded a bit, and Varth stopped sending sand flying. With an irritated sounding snort, he settled, but not without one last irritated mutter. :...I'm still better. They should still watch me.:

"We do, but blues and greens are the most common colors of dragons." S'kagi explained, and he relaxed a little again as the sleepy looking blue emerged onto the sands, whole and alive. "Bronzes like Coriath are more uncommon. Golds are the most rare. We've been unusually blessed recently with Golds."
He wasn't quite sure what that meant, though he knew there were rumors that the number of clutches increased when thread fall was near, none of the ones he'd heard had mentioned anything about an unusual number of golds being born. Perhaps it was a strange side effect of the not entirely subtle feelings between the Weyrwoman and her junior.
