Crack! Crack! Crack! The white lines signifying 3 sniper rifles and their location appeared about 200 yards out from base. By now, the banshees were at about 400 yards out, an amazing shot for an untrained sniper, but out of the 5 men with sniper rifles and 5 with rockets, 3 of the snipers had been trained as snipers, the other 2 just picked the rifles off of dead bodies. A split second later, a first, and then a second of the banshees fell from the sky, leaving the third to fly back to the base solo. A cheer rose up in the men with him, all of them suviving. For now, it was the long walk back to base, and then hauling their dead and wounded brothers out of the open, but noone had that on their mind.
"Okay men, you all did a good job. I figure we got about 7 banshees, including the 2 that our best snipers got. When we get out of here, it will be an all you can drink party." Cheers from the marines may have been heard back at camp, but Drake wasn't paying attention. First, he was marking the names of the marines in his little group, and second, he was trying to get a com link with the Lieutenant. Oh well, the Lieutenant could wait, for now, they had to get back to base before the Covenant unleashed another onslaught.

The Lieutenant's voice came in over the com to the Corporal. 'I got it Corporal-'

Finally, Twombley's line was open. Drake tried his com again and said into it "Twombley sir, This is Warrant Officer Drake Starblade. I have 10 men from Alpha team and we are about 150 yards away from the base in the direction that the banshees came from. Oh, and only one got away. 3 of the snipers with me opened fire after the banshees were leaving, and they hit and downed 2 of them."

(The banshees were really far away, but I guess you would be able to see them)
"It wasn't me, it was those two" Drake said pointing to the two snipers that had hit the banshees.

1st Lieutenant Mathias Twombley replied to Drake, seeing as how the COM with the Captain was cutting in and out, filled with static. 'Excellent job Marine. I want you and your men to rally back to the base pronto.' He finished. The clean up process was already underway. Slagged equipment set aside, easily accessible in case of quickly needed barriers. The fallen Marines were set aside, their dog tags recovered, then placed in body bags. Just more casualties in this unending war to save humanity. Weapons and ammo were recovered and being accounted for. The Covenant's weapons were set aside from the Marine weapons. He watched on as the clean up process went underway.

Corporal, I want you to rally back to the base as well. Help with the clean up process. Youll all have new orders shortly after everything has been cleaned up and accounted for. Twombley out-' He finished, still wondering what command, who was high above in orbit, wanted with him. He thought any direct orders would go straight to the Major, who was the one in command at the butte. He was becoming fatigued, not having any shut eye since he left the Armengald. The battle had kept him wide awake, but now since the fight was over, the sleep was starting to burden his eyes. Mathias shook his head and rubbed his eyes clear. Realistically, things were far from over...
