Aizel blinked. His arms had tensed at the memory, but his expression gave nothing away. He gritted his teeth, as he realised what it was that Midian was referring to.
'I don't know,' he lied, his voice icy.
'Now, now, there's no need to take that sort of tone with me, I was merely asking,' Midian mock-reprimanded. 'Although, the fact you now sound annoyed – to say the least – does make me wonder…you sure you're telling the truth?'
'Nothing but the truth,' he lied again.
'Well…I’m not so certain…'
'What are you going to do, torture me until I say what you want to hear?' Aizel snapped.

'If it comes to that, then yes,' she shortly replied.
'Do your worst then, there isn't much more you can throw at me,' Aizel said, his voice now bland, almost bored-sounding.
'Y'know, you haven't been here nearly long enough to be considered an expert on Karestra. You may just regret saying that.'

Aizel merely grumbled in reply, and turned his head away from Electrothanasia. He sharply raised a leg, straining against the shackles that were pinning him in place.
'Hey, hey! Stop that!' Midian scolded.
'Make me,' he snarled.
She sighed, and straightened his leg back on the table, before giving him a firm look. Her hands worked on the shackles, temporarily unfastening them, readying to tighten them further. Aizel, spotting his chance, leapt upon it, and reared up. He shoved Midian over, before leaping off the table.
Midian landed flat on her a**, and reached inside her coat, withdrawing the control panel, and shocking Aizel. He yelled, and kicked out at her, electricity surging through him.

Aizel's heavy boot caught Midian's hand, and the control panel slipped out of her grasp. She picked it up immediately after it had clattered to the floor, and kept her thumb pressing the button, a continuous stream of electricity searing through the boy.
He immediately stopped his attack and sank down to his knees, curling up and crying out in pain.
'Sorry to do this Kasuka, but you really make things difficult for me at times,' Midian sighed, shaking her head as she turned on her heels and walked out of the room.
Alone once more, Aizel straightened up, electrical arcs still leaping wildly off him; evidently, even though she had gone out of the room, it seemed Midian was intent on shocking him further. He painstakingly pulled himself onto his knees, and huddled up into a corner of the room, holding his knees and trying to bear through the pain.

Aizel had well and truly lost track of time. How long had he been kept in Karestra now? Hell, how long had it been since Midian left? It already felt like an eternity.
He tried to take his mind off it, and stared at his natural arm, as though it was the most exciting thing in the world, gaping at the dark hue of his skin. He suddenly remembered what Midian had said, and whilst pausing every few minutes to wince at an exceptionally powerful blast of electricity, he cautiously reached up to the top of his head.
Firm, a decent size, with a slight curl, pointing to the back of his head. Three of them. Midian had not been lying, he realised, as he continued to manually inspect his new horns.
He lowered his hand again, leaning against the wall, and gritted his teeth. As well as the electricity, he now felt a dull ache at the bottom of his back, at his coccyx. With a low growl, he launched a few small, harmless fireballs across the room, watching them with almost an expression of boredom as the sizzled into nothingness against the wall.

After what felt like an eternity, the pain finally stopped, Aizel could hear Midian unlocking the door, and re-entering. She seemed to be struggling, carrying his shock panel in one hand, and several slender metallic rods in the other. Aizel's face contorted into a puzzled frown as he watched her.
'What're those for?' he asked, pointing.
'You'll find out soon enough,' Electrothanasia ominously replied, kicking the door shut behind her, and slipping the panel back into her coat. She rested the rods on a worktable, and turned to Aizel. 'Kasuka, I'm gonna have to ask you to remove your shirt.'
'...What in the hell for?' he demanded.
'Look, we can do this the easy way, or the hard way,' Midian reasoned.
'The hard way,' he growled.
'The hard way it is,' she replied, shocking him again. 'And since we're doing things the hard way, when you awake, you will tell me what RFX is, because I know that you know, and if you don't, well...it's been a while since Experiment Izona had something living to feed on.'

Aizel painstakingly pulled himself back to his feet, and lunged at Midian. She hastily avoided his swing, and grabbed his flesh arm, twisting it around behind his back. She ignored his metallic elbow being sent flying backwards, and striking her, and guided him back to the table.
Realising she was going to need to sedate him, she released Aizel, and hunted around for a sedative. Aizel seized his opportunity and bolted, heading for the door. Midian fumbled with the bottle she had grasped, and placed it back on the worktop, snatching a hold of Aizel, as he tried to smash his way through the door.
He retaliated by punching her in the face, continued to assault the metal door, that was still holding firm. He pummelled it with his fists, and launched streams of liquid fire at it, only to be taken by surprise by Midian, who was wielding a syringe.
She jabbed it into his neck, rapidly pushed the plunger, withdrew the needle, and backed off to a safe distance. She watched as Aizel became lethargic, his movements slowing down, and eventually slumped to the floor.

The next time Aizel awoke, he was greeted by a vicious pain in his back. He found that he was back on the table, but this time, unrestrained. He pressed himself up, readying to slip off the table, and hissed between his teeth.
'Careful Kasuka,' came Midian's voice, as he saw part of a labcoat in the corner of his eye. 'It'll be a while before the stinging stops.'
'...What. Have you. Done. This time?' he growled, clenching his hands into fists and breathing deeply, trying to bear through the pain.
'Why is it that I locked you in that form in the first place?' Midian suddenly asked, as though avoiding his own question.
'Answer me.'
'To strengthen it. That's what I've done. Made you stronger. You should be pleased,' Midian replied, as though there was not a thing wrong with the situation.

He sat up, a low hiss escaping his throat as the sensation of claws down his back racked through him. He cursed and muttered a bit under his breath, and glowered darkly at Electrothanasia. His eyes flickered around the lab; something seemed amiss, but he was unable to put his finger on what.
'Something the matter, Kasuka?' she asked, watching him closely.
'...What's changed? Aside from my sore back?' Midian shrugged at him, which flared his temper. A few embers flickered from out of the tips of his fingers. 'You...had something...?'
'You're not making much sense today, are you?' Midian said, with a slightly cautious smile.
'You held something.'
'Oh, you mean the rods?' Midian finally understood what Aizel was getting at. 'Yup, I needed those for my work.'

His eyes widened momentarily, and he lightly touched his back.
'You didn't -?!'
'You should be grateful, Kasuka!' Midian told him, her tone slightly reprimanding. 'You're a good deal stronger now than you were before. Those rods will have strengthened your spine; if you get struck by something heavy, then those rods will prevent your spine from breaking. Or shattering. Depends on what you get hit with.'
'In this hellhole, anything's possible,' he snarled.
'You're catching on,' she smiled, and turned away. 'Look, you see this?' She held up a bottle, and clearly showed Aizel the label. 'It's pain relief.'
'Congratulations.'
'Do you want it, or not?' she snapped, beginning to lose her patience.

'Fine,' Aizel grudgingly replied, his lip curling back in a less-than-threatening snarl.
'Christ, don't thank me too profusely, will you?' Midian sarcastically sighed. She rolled her eyes, and injected Aizel's spine with some of the pain relief.
She turned away when there was a knock on the door, and headed over to answer it. All the while, she made sure to keep watch on Aizel in her peripheral vision; he may have been left unrestrained for a reason, but she did not want him to get up and make a break for it just yet.
'She's ready when you are,' came a voice from the other side of the door. 'We're just waiting for you now.'
'Shh, shh,' Midian hissed, flapping her hands at the man addressing her. 'He's only just come round. I've given him painkillers for his back. Shouldn't be keeping you too long.'
'Yeah, you'd better not,' the other worker replied. 'You know how she gets. It'll be on your head if she escapes - again - and rampages.'
'Look, I said I won't keep you waiting long, and I mean that,' Midian firmly retorted.

'Who was that?' Aizel demanded, when Midian and her visitor exchanged goodbyes, and the door was slammed shut again. His hand, which was rubbing his back had lowered to his coccyx again, that was still aching; evidently the pain relief had not reached that part of his body yet.
'Just a friend,' Midian evasively replied. 'How's the back?'
'As good as is possible for it to be,' he grumbled.
'Shh, shh, you may not like this now, but you'll thank me in the end.'
Aizel shuddered; he had grown tired of being told how he would be thankful for forced experiments a long time ago. He pulled his knees up to his chest and hugged his legs, dangerously allowing his mind to wander, and only half noticed when Electrothanasia came over to give him a nudge.
'I'll ask again, and I want you to answer me properly this time - how's the back?'
'Nowhere near as sore as it was when I woke up,' he distantly replied, staring blindly forwards.

'Good enough,' Midian declared, and hauled him off the table. 'Come with me.'
He was temporarily surprised at being dragged off, and just about managed to keep up with her before he fell flat on his face. All the apprehension and anger that had tightened his chest momentarily eased off when he was guided out of the room; being cooped up in the same room for so long had started to give him cabin fever.
Midian stopped outside a door, still clutching onto Aizel's wrist, lest he try and escape. He recognised whereabouts in the building they were for some reason, but he could not for the life of him place why. He knew he had been there before, but found that his memory was failing him.
Midian's free hand reached for the door, when a low growl was emitted from within. Aizel tensed at the sound, and a few more sparks flickered from out of the tips of his fingers.
'Ready Kasuka?' Electrothanasia asked, clasping the doorhandle.
'No.'
'Too bad!' Midian said, throwing the door open, and shoving Aizel through. She slammed it shut again, and locked it, just before he threw himself at the other side of the door to try and blast it back open.

Aizel pummelled at the door as hard as possible, a few inhuman snarls bursting from his throat as his anger soared. He stopped when he heard more growls from behind him, and turned, finding himself face to face with Experiment Izona.
He tensed up as she stalked closer on all fours, her long tail lashing from side to side behind her. She scraped her claws along the floor, a loud screeching noise resounding through the wide room.

Aizel tensed, streams of liquid fire engulfing his natural arm as he mentally steeled himself, waiting for Izona's attack. She stalked ever closer, jeeping low to the ground, more deep, dangerous growls escaping her throat. The boy responded with a few hisses and snarls of his own, although they were significantly less intimidating.
Izona leapt forwards as Aizel edged away from the locked arena exit, feigning an attack. he hurled a fireball at her, which she expertly deflected with a swish of her tail. She lunged again a second later, but this time for real. Her hald dead, half scaly body slammed into Aizel, smashing him into the wall. he guided his metallic fist into her stomach, whipping his natural hand about her face.
