Lore quickly got up to help Elnara, not wanting her to do it by herself, besides he should be doing something after all.
"You go get the blanket, I can look after the rest here."

Elnara nodded obediently and headed off towards the hallway closet to get herself a blanket. She wasn't going to argue ... not today at least. Today she was tired, and she knew she needed rest. But there would be other days, she knew, when she would need to do something physical before she went mad.
She took three blankets from the closet, and before she went to the living room she put one of them on her and Lore's bed, so that they would be warmer at night, and the second one on Alyse's bed - after all, she would be sleeping alone and without a fireplace as well, she would need it. Only then did she return to the living room and put the final blanket on the couch.
She needed a pillow, she mused, and turned back towards the bedroom to get one. For all the extra effort she was putting into this, she was certain she was going to have no trouble falling asleep.

By the time Lore had finished dealing with the dishes he had wandered upstairs to get a book. Which book he wasn't sure of, but just something so he could sit there with Elnara and read and pass away the time.
He opened the door to their room to rummage around in his bag.

((No stairs in this house dearie. It's all on one floor.))
Finally ready for her nap, Elnara lay down on the couch and spread the blanket over herself, her eyes already drooping a little with sleep. She tried to make herself comfortable, but no matter which way she lay, there wasn't enough room: either her feet stuck off the end, or the couch wasn't wide enough for both her and the baby.
Finally she made herself comfortable by laying on her back, pillow beneath her head, her legs tucked against the couch ... but rather than falling asleep right away, as she had expected, she found herself watching the fire, transfixed by the flames.

(( XP so I forgot))
Lore came back into the living room book in hand, he watched Elnara watch the flames for a while before taking a seat in a chair. He chuckle at her for a moment before opening his book.
"Can't sleep?"

Elnara giggled softly. "You know how it is," she murmured back. "Sheer exhaustion ... and then the effort to fall asleep leaves you wide awake."
She turned her eyes to look at him and smiled warmly. "But it feels nice just to be resting, at least. I have to admit that. And the fire is ... peaceful." She looked back at the flames again. "Warm. Calming. Like watching a waterfall, almost, that sort of feeling."

"Hmm... that's one way of putting it," Lore murmured thoughtfully glancing at the fire place.
He wouldnt' have thougth of it like that, but then again how often was it he took time out just to stare into the fire?
"Watch as it puts you to sleep," Lore chuckled looking back at her.

Elnara laughed softly, her eyelids already growing heavy.
"Yes," she agreed with a smile. "Though I won't complain." That was after all the reason she was laying there to begin with. She folded her hands on her stomach and continued to watch the fire, slowly losing awareness of what was around her.

Such was the scene when Alyse suddenly reappeared in the living room, drying her hands on a towel. She saw Elnara asleep on the couch and, not wanting to wake her, moved to stand next to Lore so that she could talk to him quietly.
"I've made sure the shutters are closed and locked on all of the windows," she told him softly, "so that the wind can't damage them. The only unprotected glass now is the front window, but it should be fine. There's a kettle of water in the fireplace in the kitchen, if you want something hot to drink. If not it will be fine. Is there anything else you need?"

Lore shook his head, "No, I'm fine thank you. You've done so much already Alyse."
And he was sure they wouldn't need anything until maybe Elnara woke up, but only then.

Alyse smiled. "Well, not really, but I'm glad you don't feel as though I'm in the way. Shael was like that at first until she really couldn't do anything by herself. I guess I can't blame her, it's just the way she is ... she wants to do everything. I-"
She was cut off suddenly as they heard a loud thunk ... thunk ... thunk ... coming from just outside the door, right against the wall.

"What the...." Lore set his book down as he rose from his seat.
It sounded liek something hitting against a wall or the sort he thought to himself as he padded to the door. A glance out the large window as he left the room told him that the wind hadn't picked up yet.... but still it was snowing heavily. He opened the door curious as to what had caused it.

Outside, Adanedhel was stacking logs of wood on the front porch of the house, making a sort of wall out of it by stacking it right to the level of the roof. He was making it several layers thick. When the door opened, he paused in his work and looked to see who it was.
"Ah, Lore," he smiled sheepishly. "Sorry ... I hope I'm not making too much noise for you ... Neko wouldn't let me go with on the hunt, he said it was too dangerous, so I've been working on cutting enough wood to see you through the next three weeks."

Lore smiled, it was very thoughtful of Adanedhel.
"It's alright, it just surprised us to hear thunking outside, well that and there had been no sign of anyone from the hunting party dropping by so Elnara was getting worried what with the snow started to fall heavily."

Adanedhel looked up at the snow that was falling thickly around them.
"Aye," he murmured softly. "It's already begun ... still, better to be low on food than on wood. I hope they come back soon."
He continued to stack the logs. If he were an adult already, he would be out there with them ... though he didn't know at the moment if that was a good or a bad thing.
"Just make sure," he told Lore, looking up at him, "that if you have to leave the house for whatever reason during the storm ... use a rope so that you can find your way back, or keep one hand on it ... it's so easy to get lost in a storm like this one is going to be ... I can feel it, it's going to be nasty ..."
And almost as if it had been waiting for him to say something of the sort, the wind gave a little gust, swirling snow in their faces.
