Well, that's NOT what I thought was going on.
Like at least one other in the comments, I thought one of yesterday's 9s was Drax (they kinda look alike biggrin ). That unusually big grin yesterday didn't seem quite 9.
Anyway, although this is a sneaky way to get rid of the Guardians, I now have to wonder how 9 knew to come and do this! I'd say this is what was keeping him out of the storyline for so long. He was occupied going back to that same time & place over & over again, and he couldn't afford to get drawn away by the events around him until he took care of that business. Timing was too crucial!
