By the time the crew had finished lunch and recovered from their self-induced food coma, the sun was already beginning to dip in the sky. It was far from sunset yet, but it was certainly coming, which meant they had to head back to Slateport. Knowing their father, he would have slept all day since he didn't have any fossil fascinations nearby; on the other hand, when their mother came back, she'd certainly fret about where they were. That klutz of a woman always worried too much.

Mary-Anne rode piggy-back style on his back for the fun of it; it felt like a salute to the past, way back when Michael used to carry her home after she'd gotten into some scrape or another. He seemed to like babying his sister too, just for the time being. Although M.A. was easily 5'10" or so, Michael's still taller frame spared the process from being too awkward.

"Hey, you!" a voice suddenly shot from the side. M.A. blinked confusedly as she turned to look at a beautiful young woman with silky lavender and a blithe little white summer dress. She was somewhere between M.A.'s and Michael's age.

There was no one else around, so she must have been addressing them.

"Um, hello?" M.A. said, a bit perplexed.

The woman ignored her greeting and practically snarled -- even that somehow did not mar her features, but made it particularly threatening. "Get off of him. You don't deserve such a handsome hunk like this; he'd be better off with me," she said, slipping her lean arm around Michael's.

M.A.'s jaw dropped. "What?"

"Are you deaf? Get off of him!" M.A. slid off this time, more due to astonishment more than anything. The pretty woman pulled him away from her. Did she think. . . they were an item? What kind of assumption was that! And even if they were, that sure wasn't a way to steal someone's boyfriend.

Michael didn't react much. Instead, a wolfish grin had spread across his face, and M.A.'s experienced eye could tell that he was keeping his boisterous laughter back. Oh, he wasn't going to do anything about this. He was just going to see his little sister deal with this on her own.

M.A.'s jaw was still on the ground when the woman turned to her and frowned. "Get lost already, you're not needed here. Right, hunny? I'll be a much better woman to you than that thing," she said, whispering the last part in his ear and pressing herself close to him and stroking his face. Michael's grin grew even wider, which meant he was certainly planning up something; the woman mistook that for acceptance and smugly looked at M.A.

"To be honest, I'm tired of how slow our... relationship... is progressing," Michael said to the woman, with a secret wink to M.A. In return, she glared at him, seeing where this was going.

"Oh, not going away with a fight, are you? More stubborn than I thought," the woman said, looking with considerable disdain at M.A. Michael took this chance to subtly detangle himself from the woman and step back. "Fine. Two on two battle! We'll make this quick."

Mike waved as his friend flew off to the west. "If I don't see ya, see ya!" He threw his head to the left and right, each thrust followed by a subtle pop. "That's better." said the boy, loosening himself up for the training ahead. He released his Magby, kneeling down and ruffling the Pokemon's equivalent of 'hair' (well, more like lumpy tumor-like protrusions but you get the point). "We're gonna do some hardcore work today little guy, you all rested?"

Napalm hopped up and down, looking to the side and shooting a small burst of flames in excitement. He was most definitely ready.

"Awesome." Mike smiled, giving his little firebrand another pat. He could not wait for the tyke to evolve. He recalled briefly his sense of pridful joy as Nitro evolved into a Charmeleon to defend Kasiya against Hiro, and Felsic's exceptional display of defiance when he evolved in attempt to tackle Flannery's much higher level Arcanine. The fact it was utterly futile only caused the boy to appreciate it more. "I really do have some of the best Pokemon around." He said to himself, almost misty eyed with nostalgia.

Before the Lavaridge boy could begin, he heard the doors behind him swoosh open. It was Sasha, who was all packed up and ready to go. "So, leaving without saying goodbye? That's not very polite." She winked playfully, tilting her head to the side slightly, expecting a response.

"Remind me of my manners next time you're kidnapped, I might be inclined to turn the other way." The two laughed, it was nice that they could joke about such an incident so soon. "How's your jaw?" Mike ran a gently hand across the girl's chin, glad to see no scar or mark on her rather fair complexion. "Still hurt?"

"Nah, that stuffy siren couldn't do anything aside from making me bite my tongue. I'm good." A small moment of silence followed, interrupted by only the far off sound of a boat horn. "So, where are you going now?" the pink haired girl inquired, shifting her feet anxiously as if she wanted to say something really bad.

"A hop skip and a jump behind me to train Napalm." He added a quick point for reference. "I'm gonna be at the Beach Party and after that....I dunno. I'll just wing it." Surprise, that was his strategy for everything.

"The party in Slateport?" The girl nodded in remembrance, that's what Mike and Kilik were talking about in the shower last night. "I'll be there too! I always need an excuse to swim."

"Yeah, swimming..." Mike shuddered, he was such a baby. Although, suffering through the possible event of drowning might be worth it to see Sasha in a swim suit. Mike shook his head forcefully when he caught himself thinking of parts of his friend he really shouldn't have. Hey! Don't do that, you're taken. He chastised himself. Think of Flannery's legs next time pal. And that he did my friend, that he did. Those slender, long legs, only slightly tanned. Neither showcasing too rough of a demeanor nor losing the frail beauty of her soft and delicate feminine charm. Perfection. "Well, I really must be off," Mike said, jarring himself out of a particularly naughty daydream. "Gotta kick this little guy's training into overdrive. I'll see you later. Come on Napalm." With a small two fingered salute the boy turned back around, walking in the direction of Route 121 whistling a short tune. His Magby ran over to keep up, the fact that his trainer's legs were longer than his whole body made it somewhat of a chore to keep up a constant pace with him.

"Mike, wait!" Sasha cried out. Before the boy could fully turn around, she had almost knocked him over with an embrace. She gripped him so tight he had to make an effort not to make a pained grunt, his face showed particular signs of strain. "I just want to thank you again." Sasha's voice was uncharacteristically soft, he had to concentrate just to hear her. "I was so scared, and then you and Kilik just rushed in like that, thinking only about my safety." Mike could hear the strain of holding back tears on her voice, and it almost threatened to mist his eyes over. "It's just," Sasha continued. "Having someone do something that dangerous for you, asking for nothing in return, it means a lot to me." She pulled away, there was evidence that tears had run down her cheeks. "Thank you Mike, tell Kilik that too." The girl wiped her eyes, smiling weakly at Mike. "See you soon." With that she turned and walked towards the harbor, looking back once to wave one last time before breaking into a light jog.

Mike chuckled to himself as he watched her bounce off. "What a curious girl." Looking back down at Napalm, the two once again made their way to the edge of the city.

...

As soon as the two boys were out of eyesight, Sasha let out a loud moan of pain, slamming her eyes shut and grasping her jaw tight. "Agh!" Her free hand punched the side of a building, thankfully it wasn't made of brick or it would have broken her hand. But damn did it hurt. After a minute or so of gently rubbing her jaw, the girl spit out a small amount of blood, kicking some dirt to cover it. "Can't have him worrying about me all the time now can I?" She said under her breath.

Having been entirely focused on the Banette, Themis had no way to avoid being attacked by the Skarmory. Its sharp beak tore into the already exhausted Manectric, and to add insult to injury, the Banette, seemingly unphased by Flash's Hidden Power (or just refusing to show that the icy sphere had hurt it), vanished from sight and landed a Faint Attack. Themis staggered a bit before collapsing onto the ground. Keegan frowned and held up the Manectric's Pokeball, recalling him. He looked at Loki and nodded. "You're up," he said, knowing that the Arbok's poisonous attacks would be useless against the Skarmory, but at least he could take out the Banette.

Without hesitation, Loki slithered forward, keeping low to the ground until he was right in front of both of his opponents. He rose up, hissing and baring his fangs viciously as he activated his Intimidate ability. "Crunch attack," the redhead ordered, and Loki didn't need to be told twice. He lunged at the Banette, sinking his sharp fangs into the ghost type's body. It let out a terrible shriek, but it still wasn't ready to give up yet.

"It'll take more than that to bring us down, boy!" Salt and Pepper shouted.
=====
"Aska, fight back with Twister! Starrie, Swift attack, go!" Miharu shouted. Aska shot up into the sky and began to flap her wings rapidly, quickly creating a spiraling tornado that swept across the ground, snatching up both the Raticate and the Meowth into its vortex. Starrie leapt up and let a shower of golden stars fly into the Twister, where they broke off into two distinct streams and attacked both the rat and cat Pokemon simultaneously. Miharu was impressed by her Pokemon's ability to work together, especially the Staryu. It had never shown any interest in the other Pokemon on its team as of yet, and Miharu took it as a good sign.

When the twister finally released its prisoners, both were looking a little weaker (and dizzier) than before. Megan frowned and shook her head. "You're a force to be reckoned with," she said, sighing. "Meowth, Raticate, Bite attack!" she shouted, pointing at Starrie. Both Pokemon dashed forward, veering off in opposite directions as to attack the starshape Pokemon on both sides. The Staryu didn't make a noise as it was bitten twice, instead hopped backward in order to get away from the two offending normal types.

For some reason, seeing Loki on the battlefield always made Kasiya smile. She had always liked the Poison-type, especially since she had witnessed his evolution during the battle with Brawly on Dewford Island. Loki will take care of the Banette, she thought, nodding her head. We will take down that Skarmory!

"Okay Flash, get ready," she said, calling out to her Jolteon. Flash's ears perked up and he trotted away from the intimidating Arbok. Kasiya knew that if she ordered an electric attack, Baldy would order Protect, and block it. She smiled though, knowing it wouldn't work every time. "Best to just keep blasting it," she murmured. "Flash, Thundershock!" Glad to oblige, the Jolteon let off the weaker electric attack, happy to be attacking but annoyed that it was a weak attack.

As predicted, Baldy smirked as he called out for Skarmory to use Protect, and the electricity harmlessly danced around the green shield, doing no damage at all.

Jaeshan studied the bike coupon closely, amazed to find that he could pick up a bike at half the normal price. "The perks of being Champion," he murmured, stowing the coupon safely in his wallet and taking out the new PokeNav to study it. It would need charging, apparently, and he would also have to add all the phone numbers and whatnot from his old one if he wanted to use it. He put it back in his bag and continued towards the Pokemon Center, knowing that some of his Pokemon were in desperate need of healing.

He had just approached the automatic sliding doors when something in his gut told him to look up, and he did, wondering what was going on. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a blonde girl wearing a pretty dress, and she seemed to be looking at him. She looks like Ryka, Jaeshan thought, shaking his head as he entered the Pokemon Center. Now I'm seeing her everywhere... but that Espeon with her sure looked like Aurora...! he stopped in mid-thought and turned on a heel to rush back outside, only he hadn't activated the motion-sensor and ended up running face-first into the glass doors. He was quick to pick himself up though, and this time as the doors opened he was careful not to run into anything. His heart seemed to miss several beats as he looked around again, hoping that his eyes hadn't deceived him yet again.

((Just so you know, Ryka will be as many days behind as Jaeshan if she joins up with him now))

((that's alrighty. I have no idea what day it is anyway xP))

Ryka watched as Jaeshan walked into the Pokemon Center, the re-emerged outside moments later. Ryka giggled at his slip-up, and gave him a small wave.

"I think he recognizes us." Iris purred in agreement, suddenly running over to greet Jaeshan. She nuzzled his leg and purred, wondering if he remembered her as well.

Ryka half-skipped over to him, her mood lifting greatly. She didn't know exactly how to start -- it was their first time meeting in a while. When she had left, she rushed off without so much as a goodbye. She stopped in front of him and blinked a few times, smiling. "Hi, Jaeshan."

The boy and his Pokemon continued farther from Lilycove City on foot, hoping to find a relatively secluded spot to train on Route 121. A wild Pokemon would be fine too. Mike and Napalm waded through the tall grass, the Magby occasionally jumping into the air in hopes to find something; he was getting antsy. He wanted to fight. He wanted to get stronger. He mostly wanted to slam that snobby Elekid's face into the dirt. The Live Coal Pokemon snickered sinisterly, a very pleasant mental image playing in his mind.

"Well," began the boy. "I remember seeing an Oddish or two on the way here, and that would probably be the best way for you to gain some leve-" The Lavaridge boy was interuppted by a brown colored little critter dashing right under his legs. Mike let out a short yelp before crashing to the ground, muttering a few choice words under his breath. The offender had zipped on past, running in a very erratic manner into a nearby clearing.

Napalm knew that Mike would want him to give chase, so the little Pokemon took off in pursuit. He shot a quick burst of flames to clear the way and leaped into action, landing in the clearing and coming face to face with the pest.

Wild Zigagoon Appeared!

The raccoon like Pokemon raised its back end, growling defensively at the sight of Napalm. It was not in the mood to have another Pokemon in its territory.

"Don't let that little runt get to you buddy!" Mike quickly ran over, lightly brushing the dirt off his butt. The Magby looked back at his trainer, his expression saying loud and clear there wasn't a chance in the world he was afraid of this little mutt. Napalm took a commanding step forward, taking in a deep breath and holding it in, making himself look larger and more intimidating. Mike chuckled slightly, he was enjoying this new confident streak Napalm had in him. It reminded him of how Nitro and Felsic were when they evolved. "Alright Napalm!" The trainer shouted, clenching his fits. "Let's do this!"

Jaeshan couldn't hold back the smile as the girl waved at him, indeed proving that he had not gone nutters. A second or so later, the Espeon ran over to him, nuzzling his leg and purring happily. "Why hello there," he said, bending down to pet her gently. "Haven't seen you in a long time." He looked up as Ryka made her way over to him, looking exactly how he felt - unsure of what to do or say. The last time he'd seen her, things seemed fine, then the next thing he knew, she was gone.

"Hey there," he said, smiling back at her. "Long time no see, eh?" There was so much he wanted to ask her, but no actual sentences could form coherently inside his brain. "So, uh," he started, scratching the back of his head. "What brings you to Rustboro?"

Iris purred in delight. She remembered this boy. He was the one who Ryka liked so much. And he remembered her too. Iris was happy with this conclusion and purred again, pawing Jaeshan's foot.

"Yeah, it has been a while, hasn't it?" Ryka replied, her smile getting bigger with each passing moment. "I'm here.. to see you, of course. I went to Cherrygrove to ask Nurse Joy where you had went, and she pointed me here." A lot of things were running through her mind, but she didn't know what to say or do. Suddenly, her mind was made up as she wrapped her arms around Jaeshan. "I missed you."

Mike could see that the Zigzagoon was not going to back down, and it looked feisty enough to put up a fight. "Okay Napalm," the boy punched the air in front of him, opening his hand to signify a fire attack. "let's try out your Fire Spin!"

More than ready to get on with the fight, the Magby exhaled a bright orange plume of flames that danced and swirled with a mind of their own until both Pokemon were surrounded by a cyclone of flames. Both Napalm and the enemy Zigzagoon were encased inside the fiery tornado. Mike had to take a step back as the fire seemingly nipped at him for being too close.

The Tiny Raccoon Pokemon yelped as the flames licked his backside and jumped closer towards his foe, both to get away from the Fire Spin and attack the intruder. Breaking into a run, the Zigzagoon sprinted forward and connected with a Headbutt attack, sending Napalm skidding back a foot or so. The Pokemon glanced at the stray hairs that clung to his stomach. With a slight strain he heated up his body, incinerating the dander defiantly.

The Lavaridge boy scrunched his face at the smell of burnt hair. "Good, but next time just brush them off okay? Bleh." It reminded him of the incident when he burned his hair when he first went to Mt. Chimney back home. He smiled, but reminiscing was for another time. Now was when Napalm needed his help. "Alright, give him your Faint Attack!" shouted the boy, the Fire Spin proving to be much louder than he expected.

Wasting no time the Fire Pokemon hopped into the air and vanished without a trace. The Zigzagoon looked around frantically, sniffing the air in hopes to catch a trace, but all he could smell was the burnt dirt and fur. Napalm appeared behind his foe, landing on the ground softly. The Zigzagoon had just enough time to look behind him as he received a clawed foot to the head, causing him to tumble into the flames once again.

Meanwhile, Tsunami had taken to shooting off Water Gun attacks at Shining. The small Eevee was quite nimble and managed to avoid most of every blast but she was still getting nicked by the attacks and was now pretty wet. “Use Quick Attack to get in close.” Shining nimbly dodged another Water Gun and burst into the sprinting attack and managed to score a solid hit on the Vaporeon. But it wasn’t over since Tsunami was quite used to battles by now and she quickly summoned a vortex of water around the two pokemon, a makeshift Surf attack. The two were lifted into the column and Shining was sent back to the grass in a wet heap. Tsunami gigled at her less experienced comrade as Shining glared at her watery powers.

"Wow, Aurora sure has grown, hasn't she?" Jaeshan chuckled, patting the lovely Espeon once again. It was funny to watch her paw at his shoe, and he chuckled a bit. "I thought it was odd that you knew where I was," he said, but was cut off as she suddenly threw her arms around him. His cheeks flushed a bit, but he quickly wrapped his arms around her and rested his chin on the top of her head. "I missed you too," he said.

When they finally pulled apart, he looked down at her, feeling a little less awkward but still very curious. "So what have you been up to all this time?" he asked, scratching his chin. "And I'm a little curious as to why you sent me your Beldum. Believe me, I'm glad to be taking care of it, but it was rather sudden."

Keegan glanced over as the Skarmory hid behind the Protect, and he smirked. "One of those attacks is bound to get through," he called over to Baldy, hoping to throw the squat man a bit off of his game. Loki swayed on the spot, glaring daggers at the Banette before him. "Take it out, Loki!" Keegan shouted at the Arbok. "Crunch it again!" His voice was firm and confident, and he knew that once they brought down the Banette, the game was theirs. Having an advantage over the Arbok wouldn't mean a thing as it couldn't possibly fend off attacks from two Pokemon, including an electric type at that. Loki lunged forward, his mouth gaping wide as once again his fangs found their target, and the Banette let out one last pathetic shriek before it toppled to the ground, unable to continue battling. A wicked grin spread across Keegan's face as Salt and Pepper recalled the ghost, shaking his head. The redhead turned his gaze towards Kasiya and smiled. "Let's wrap this up, shall we?"
=====
Miharu winced at the sight of the double-teaming of her Pokemon, but tried to remain calm. She could do this... couldn't she? "Starrie, use Recover! Aska, cover Starrie! Attack the Raticate with Aerial Ace!" she said.

The Raticate had dashed forward, hoping to attack the Staryu with a Quick Attack, but the speedy Pidgeotto was able to intercept as the two Pokemon clashed in a flurry of fur and feathers. This gave Starrie ample time to summon the energy to heal itself, and its core twinkled as the bite and scratch marks slowly disappeared from its body. The Meowth, unsure of what to do, took a few steps back and waited, keeping a close eye on the tricky Pidgeotto. Upon hearing a call from its trainer, the cat Pokemon dashed into the fray, swiping at Aska with its claws - Fury Swipes.

"Goooo Kanna! Mimi!" With a graceful toss into the air, two Pokemon appeared on the woman's side. Of course she would have pretty looking Pokemon, M.A. thought with a hint of sarcasm, but truthfully she was a tiny bit envious. Not to say that she wanted those two instead of her own; oh no, M.A. wouldn't leave her Pokemon for her life. It's just that they looked so well-bred and along-side that gorgeous woman, they looked picture perfect. That blue one (Kirlia, her Pokedex said) even sparkled with stars upon release, something M.A. had never seen before. Meanwhile, M.A. was scruffy and looked as though she'd gone through a dusty tornado (exaggerating only slightly); even if she was at her best, though, she was painfully aware (this all being one of those shallow things women sometimes deal with) that she would never be as radiantly and flawlessly beautiful as the woman who was clutching on to Michael's arm.

"Oh, what dirty Pokemon," the young woman clucked (let's call her Michiko and assume introductions had taken place somewhere between Michael and herself) shortly after M.A. released Daemyn and Tora. "Your low-classiness extends to them, it seems."

Oooh, she's angry now, Michael thought with a smirk.

Angry would be an understatement. She could insult M.A. as she liked, but how dare she insult her Pokemon! "Let's show those thoroughbreds how it's really done," M.A. growled, almost ferally.

How primitive, the woman thought, turning her nose up. "Kanna, start with Calm Mind, those two look dreadfully physical! As for you, Mimi (the Delcatty)," the woman said, pausing for a smile then pointing at Daemyn. "Attract that man away!"

Damn, woman wasn't as stupid as M.A. hoped she might be. Looked like she had some cunning too. "Daemyn, don't let her--" but it was too late, by then. The Delcatty had swayed its hips seductively side by side, practically exploding with hearts that did not affect Tora or her partner but Daemyn. A goofy, definitely not typical smile hit the canine's lips as the hearts dominated his eyes. Meanwhile, the Kirlia murmurred something harmoniously under its breathe, a pure glow slowly emanating from its body.

"Yes, she has. I think we've both grown a lot." Ryka fingered her chin as she recalled all of their training in the past month. "Oh!" she jolted, "She's been renamed. She's called Iris now.. I think it suits her better. She sure seems to like it." Ryka gave a sweet smile to her Espeon, and Iris mewed back affectionately.

Ryka, likewise, looked up Jaeshan. He's still tall.. I feel so short! She giggled a little as she gestured towards the doors of the Pokemon Center. "Why don't we sit down inside? This might be kind of a long story.." The two walked in and st down on a comfy little red couch. Ryka sat on her knees and faced Jaeshan.

"Well, you might not believe it, but I've been training under Erika. That also ties in to why I sent you Beldum.. everyone knows that to train in her Gym, you have to be a girl, right? But most people don't know that she only allows the girls to have Grass or Bug type Pokemon. So she told us all to release our Pokemon.. but instead, I decided to give them to my closest friends.. People who I knew wold take care of them." Ryka nodded in conjunction with the statement. "Erika saw the connection between Iris and I though, and she allowed her to stay. Personally, I just think that Erika thought Iris was pretty." Ryka laughed.

"And Beldum was beginning to get very lonely also. I thought that you would really enjoy having him around. I'm glad I gave him to the right person." Ryka looked out the window. The blue sky was comforting.

"I hope that explains everything. So, what have you been up to?" Ryka smiled at her old friend, eager to hear how he'd been faring.

“Keep an eye out for counterattacks. Your enemy isn’t just going to sit there and take what you send at them. Okay now, let’s switch things up. You’re all on different teams, Sun and Sha, you’re a team; Tsu and Shi are the other team.” The two male Pokemon were quick to change sides but there was some ill will between the two females, mainly Shining, this battle should help put them back on the same team.

“Tsunami will use Surf, Shining use your Helping Hand. You guys figure out a defense.” Mag expected the two males to use Protect to stop the wave which would allow Shadow to attack with a different move. Shadow nodded at his partner as the wave, complete with glistening white aura from Helping Hand, came crashing at them. Shadow also created a white aura that formed around Sunfire who erected a green shield and proceeded to rush right through the wave and into the two enemies with the shield. “Wow guys! Protect as an offensive attack as well as a defensive one, good thinking!” Mag encouraged.
