I use a 3-pile system.
Pile 1 is clean laundry that's just been washed.
Pile 2 is clean laundry that had been washed previously.
Pile 3 is dirty laundry.
When laundry time comes around, pile 1 is dumped on top of pile 2, and pile 3 is put in the basket. Wash is done, the basket is returned, and becomes pile 1. Pile 3 starts over from scratch.
