Again, you'd overpower the shotgun to the point of silly. Shotguns go to strength four at the best and this is the Imperial Guard we're talking about here, overkill and fancy wargear aren't things they have in spades.
Honestly, I think a guardsman that's S6 T4 is overpowered to the point of silly; why not the gun too?
You can't take things too far now. But he has the background to go for it after all: he did get eaten by a Miral Landshark.

...And fought his way out of it with an S3 shotgun?

As far as I recall, he tore his way back out with his remaining limbs and, yes, the shotgun. Just because something is tough on the outside doesn't mean that an internal explosion of significantly weaker force won't kill 'em.

He used his own teeth to fight that thing. His fluff has always been like that.

The gossip in Catachan divisions must be awful.

Oh...Well, thanks for correcting me there, Brookman.

And...dude, the bragging stories in Catachan and deathworlder divisions would be incredible! Did you never read the stories in the back of Codex: Catachan?

Tall tales are part of the Catachan way of life. These men all come from a world where you can die at any moment along with a natural desire to sacrifice their own lives for those of their comrades. The novel Death World goes into some length to show this, as a lone Chan storms an Ork vehicle gun blazing, leaps into it with his knife and when about to die blows himself up. One of his comrades saw it, retold the tale to his comrades (with a little embellishing here and there) and that's how things got rolling.

Straken on the other hand is not a man known for fanciful boasts. He's dead serious and doesn't show off.

I got the "new" Cadian battle force last week along with another Valkyrie. Quite a big spend for me but at least I've got a legal army now. Smallish but legal. Not that it matters, as I'm air support! blaugh

I've decided to use the Elysian Drop Trooper list from Imperial Armour 3. I just need the list and I'm on my way! ninja

I heard IA3 has that list. Good luck finding it.

I just read in the White Dwarf that alongside Straken there will also be a model of Harker.

Sweet! I know that the number of characters in the Guard 'dex is ridiculous, but I love the fact that it's possible to make very flavorful squads.
