"Humanity definitely isn't ready for alien life," Dari agreed. Hell, tat was why he was out here wearing this ring! He gave it a fond glance briefly and then turned to the magazine. Historical sightings, hm? These were all too old to be able to confirm or deny, not that he would. UFOs were hard to document, although the Bureau was able to debunk military vehicles definitely. What remained? Who knew? Crashes had unfortunately never led to surviving entities... not except for him, he supposed.
He realized he'd gotten a little distracted by the written article and offered the magazine back to Cody. He punched the hand dryer one more time. His shirt was getting there. It was all too bad he knew Roswell was a hoax.
"So what do you do?" he asked. Alien theorist and...?

"Oh, I'm a teacher," Cody shrugged. "Highschool history. Western Civilizations, the kids love it." He shook his head. When they were sitting still and not hiding their phones under their desks so they could text. "You?" he asked, taking the magazine back.

Dari gave a little laugh. Sure. He'd started teaching a teenager lately too, but it was much easier one-on-one. He couldn't imagine a whole class of them! He also doubted the seriousness of the 'kids love it' statement. As far as he knew, teenagers as a general rule didn't much like school.
"Uhhh! I work for the government." He nodded and the hand dryer went off. He felt the wet part of his shirt and only found it partly damp, so he pulled it over his head.

"Oh really?" Cody asked, curious. "Doing what?" Was there a government facility nearby? Maybe he was just visiting the area? That'd be unfortunate, the guy was polite, and good looking--and pretty well perfect. He'd hoped to see him around.

Dari pulled a bit of a face. "I can't really tell you."
That was the rough part of federal employment. Everything was classified, and the Bureau was beneath yet another special layer of red tape. You couldn't even talk about the normal FBI, and then its supernatural cousin? Oh no. Never. Nobody was quite sure what they'd do to a traitor beyond the contracted 'termination.'

Oh. Oh. It was that kind of government. Secret spies and stuff. He'd been thinking CPS or something.
"Well." Cody took out a piece of paper and quickly wrote his phone number on it. "If you ever want to talk," he said, offering it to Dari. Or hang out. Go on a date.

Dari smiled and took the piece of paper. It took him a moment to realize what had just happened. There was no reason to exchange phone numbers. They hadn't had fun, they hadn't hung out. This man was interested! His 'gaydar,' as Lori had called it, was definitely not honed.
Dari gave Cody a look, one brow arched, with his head still tilted down toward the paper. Really?

Cody gave Dari a smile, and stuffed his hands in his pockets. He looked a little shy, actually. Had he done the right thing, giving Dari his number? He was interested--this guy was a rare type, but was he out of his league here? The guy worked for the government, after all! Some secret agency or something.
"We could go out for a drink sometime," he added, awkwardly.

Aha! So he was attracted! Dari nodded.
"I'd like that." So maybe he'd be interested too. One drink didn't mean anything. Even a few dates wasn't concrete. He wanted to court. He wanted to experience this. He only felt marginally bad for the fact that he was not immediately attracted to the other man. Maybe he would learn to be. Emotions didn't just appear, they had to grow! It was nothing like the club, with the sweat and the music and the social atmosphere and the forced intimacy. This was just one guy who had sloshed coffee on him in the park.
So high school teachers were free weekends and holidays. Good. It was the same for him. "I'll call you." Never mind the fact that he already had Cody's phone number memorized.

Really? Really really? Cody's expression brightened. "Great," he said. A drink didn't mean anything, but it was a start! They could talk over coffee or something. "Er. So you're headed home now?" Talking about dates in the bathroom was...a little awkward, honestly.

"Probably," Dari said. He was a bit damp, and although he could go on a walk with this man, it didn't feel right. He was feeling a little... shy? Why? He didn't feel shy in the club. He started out of the restroom. "Maybe I'll get another coffee."
He tucked Cody's number into his pocket and smiled. "Now when you say drinks, do you mean in a cafe, or in a bar?"

"Cafe," Cody said, immediately. "We can talk over coffee or something." Unless Dari especially wanted to go to a bar. "See you soon, then?" he asked.

"Sure," Dari said with a nod and a smile. He raised a hand to say goodbye as they parted. He intentionally went the opposite direction than Cody was headed. His cheeks also felt a little hot, what was that? He touched one and it squished under his hand, then hit bone. Hah! He'd never get sick of feeling that.

Cody left the park, feeling hopeful. He hadn't had a date for years, not since he'd started teaching. It would be nice to get out, get to know Darren a bit.
Maia had been busy getting ready--in fact, she'd taken over the upstairs bathroom. She was excited for tonight. Dancing with Toby! She and Dari had gone shopping a few nights before, and she'd carefully tucked the dress away where she was sure Toby wouldn't have looked--the trunk of Dari's car. She'd only brought it in to put it on. It was a nice, dark blue--her favorite color, with a sash around the waist. She had fallen in love with it immediately after her favorite alien had suggested it.
She'd fixed her hair so the ends curled, and then, she was ready.

Toby hadn't gone out like this in a long time. He barely went out dancing at all, and when he did it tended to be with Lori, so it wasn't even really his type of joint. To go out somewhere classy? He was excited. This was decades in the waiting.
It was easier for him to get ready. He just popped on a nice suit, although it was very different than his work gear. He had a pocket square and a nice jacket and everything, not just boring work attire.
"How do I look?" he asked.
"Good," Dari said with a nod, "Are you excited?"
"Absolutely."
