Miyuki, of course over heard this, it wasn't like they were whispering, and she knew there were very few people that Iorlas knew as a rule. Maybe it was something from the village she was originally in... or...

Mentally, the little girl shook her head because that couldn't be it, what were the changes that person was the same person who turned Iorlas and Ioreth into elves?

"Lin, the carpenter here was where you got your jewelry box, yes?" Earendil asked, shifting the topic away from what was apparently bothering Iorlas. "We visited her the last time we were here, I think."

Andarien pouted. Everyone was speaking in that other language, and he couldn't follow what was being said.

Lin nodded at this, "Yes, that was a long time ago now. I think before the first time we sailed."

She loved it though for the hidden compartment, though she wasn't sure if she had mentioned that, probably, otherwise what was the point of having it?

"A long time ago," Earendil chuckled.

"You two have been traveling together for a long time," Daeron remarked to the two. "When you can't keep one visit separate from another ..." He winked at them. "Either that or your memories are going."

"Ada-tol!" Andarien spoke up finally. "What are you saaayyyiiiiiingggg?" He had a very deep pout on his lips, and his frustration was clear.

"He's talking teasing mommy and ada about how they can't separate one trip they've done from another," Miyuki told Andarien but not translating exactly because it was too much trouble.

Lin laughed at that and looked up at Dareon, "In my defense this was back when I was still more or less living in Gaia, it's not easy keeping the years straight after a while."

She supposed now she was living here and visiting Gaia, though with all the moving around it felt just like another place to visit since they didn't have one spot to call home here.

Andarien blinked at Miyuki. "Why can't they remember?" he asked. "They're not little like me!"

To him, being too young to remember was one things, but their parents weren't as young as him, so that wasn't a good enough excuse.

Iorlas looked at Lin curiously. "How long have you been more or less living in this world?" she asked.

"Because they're much older than you," Miyuki replied in common tongue.

She didn't know exactly how old her mother was (that was always hard to pin down) but she knew her ada was really really old, at least to her.

Lin grinned in a way that one could tell she was laughing inside. Even after all these years she found it amusing because it was a loaded question.

"I'm only in my thirties, but the world I came from, time passes slower than in this world. Let me put it this way... Earendil is 89, and I have known him since he was 13 or 14. So there are times where it is very confusing to me to figure out when was the last time I was somewhere..."

Andarien blinked at Miyuki, staring for a moment, and then he frowned. "Hey! You switched on me!"

"You need to learn the language," Earendil told his son. "Most people here don't know Common Elvish, the language that you know. And we're going to be going to more places where they speak different languages, so you really do need to get used to the idea that you're going to have to learn more."

Andarien pouted. Why couldn't everyone just speak the same language, or learn his language? It wasn't fair!

"I'm just trying to help," Miyuki replied, "It's easier to learn when you have people talking to you in the language you need to learn."

She should know, Ancient Tongue, was still difficult for her because it was a language that she never really used and they weren't at Nauros for very long, but Miyuki knew she would have gotten it far less if people hadn't always talked in Ancient Tongue around her.

"That reminds me," Earendil mused. "When we go to the Southland, Miyuki, I'd like you to work on your High Elven rather than speak to everyone in the Common Tongue. It's the last major language in Arda that we know of that you really should learn. My ada, your neko, he likes it better when people speak to him in High Elven."

He turned to Lin. "Maybe we should start that with her and Andarien as soon as we leave the Eastland, so they've got a bit of exposure to it before we reach Tor Karad."

It was probably a good thing that most of what Earendil said was going over Andarien's head. He was already upset with having to learn one new language; if he knew he had to learn another one so quickly after that already, it might be a disaster.

"Okay," Miyuki replied.

Now that her ada mentioned it (because she hadn't been too young when she last saw her neko) her neko didn't speak Common Tongue as far as she knew. They always had to translate.

"Does this mean you won't switch to High Elven when you want to talk about something I can't know about anymore? Or is there another language I don't know?"

"No... that's about it because I never bothered to learn Human Tongue or Dwarven," Lin replied dryly.

Earendil chuckled at that. "No, I suppose we won't be able to do that anymore," he grinned. "You're right. Unless there are new languages for us to learn in Caras Galadhon, that should be the last of them."

"We should ask Luk," Daeron spoke up. "That's one of the questions that I don't think anyone has asked."

Andarien only understood a little bit of what was being said. "More languages?" he asked in dismay.

"That's a good point, and we should ask that before we get there," Lin murmured, "Actually we should ask a lot of things about the place we're going... that's another continent but what we saw was only a city."

It did make her wonder what else was there.

Miyuki looked at Andarien and quickly translated, "Only when we need to, not everyone knows Common Elvish or Common Tongue."

"Maybe we could ask him when we return," Daeron suggested. He was curious as well. "By the way, in case you hadn't figured it out, I'm fully planning on joining you on your next trip, if Iorlas wants to go."

He looked to Iorlas to see what she would say, but she was distracted again.

"Iorlas?"

She blinked and glanced at Daeron, then slid her hand out of his. "I'll catch up," she said mysteriously; and then she ran off down a side street.

Andarien blinked after her. "Where's she going?" he asked, looking up at his uncle.

Daeron frowned gently in confusion. "I ... don't know," he admitted, sticking to the Common Tongue.

Miyuki was about to go after Iorlas when her mother grabbed her from behind, "No you don't."

Lin looked at her daughter, even though she knew that she would have done the same at Miyuki's age.

"But why did she leave?"
