Man, I'm so excited for Twenty-Eight Weeks Later. o: Interesting trailer... I loved Twenty-Eight Days Later. The simplicity of it (not that I'm suggesting that clearing major areas of London for minutes at a time was simple xB) was scary. >D
My friends and I watched it after being up watching other scary movies all night, so it was a real trip. I had to go upstairs, turning all the lights on on the way so that they could go to the bathroom. xD
And I was doing that thing that I always do after watching a movie that I liked... convincing myself that it was real... so I was having fun with that. n__n;

angryfisheatenbycat I happen to not believe evolution, but for none of the reasons shown in that video! xd Maths itself says that evolution is impossible. Apparently it's more likely to be able to walk through a brick wall. (yes, there is a tiny chance that that would happen.) What's your explanation for how things are the way they are, then? re: Youtube comments: They make my brain cry! It's funny how one spam chainletter will spawn ten more "dont spam stupid!!!!!!!" comments. xp

It's funny how one spam chainletter will spawn ten more "dont spam stupid!!!!!!!" comments. xp If you mean the way things are as in, how come we exist, there are a couple of ways I could answer; Scientifically, there are currently two theories that I know of. Evolution, and Intelligent Design. Since evolution is mathematically proven to be a small enough change to be counted as impossible, (remember the brick wall) I dont think there's much point in even looking at the tons of scientific flaws also. (One major one for me, is that one science thing teaches that everything goes from order into chaos. Evolution teaches that chaos goes into order. Plus, our gene pool is diminishing, not expanding.) Intelligent design looks at the way everything is put together, in particular a very tiny organism which basically looks like a machine, in which if one tiny cell was out of place, it would not work, and life would cease to exist, and goes "ok, this cant have happened by chance, someone, or something, must have designed it." It does not say who or what or how it was designed, only that it must logically have been designed. (For all we know, science could one day prove that we were created by a highly advanced alien race, and we're being observed. I guess this generation probably wont find out.) Which is why close minded (VERY UNSCIENTIFIC) people like the people who founded the spagetti monster thing annoy me so much. I do have religious beliefs about the whole thing, as everyone does. (Atheism is a belief, same as anything else, as God existing or not cannot be proven yet.) However, unless people want me to, I wont bring them into this debate. 28 weeks later looks as good as the first one looks... however, I'm not going to see either, as they're nasty and gory and scary. D: I dont find things like that enjoyable to watch.

I think evolution, as a general idea, is the best explanation we have so far for the state of life on Earth today. We probably have some of it wrong, which is why it might not always make sense, but life does change and adapt over time.
I try to keep my metaphysical beliefs separate from what I think is true or not about the natural world. For me, religion is more part of my cultural identity than something to get into philosophical discussions over. (Both sides of my family are Episcopalian; if we got to rewrite the Bible, Jesus would have said "This whiskey sour is my blood, given for you") Which is part of the reason religion-bashing infuriates me; supposedly it's impolite to insult other peoples' cultures, but it's okay to call anyone with a spiritual side "stupid?" You don't have to believe in any of it, but religion is part of culture. Nice going, world. XP (Of course there are a lot of morons who happen to be religious, but that's simply because stupidity knows no bounds.)
more on YouTube: I love it simply for the vast amount of Sesame Street clips. I'll go through lists and I'm all "I remember that one!"

as you said, there is a very low chance for evolution to occur. that is why it takes a longlonglonglonglonglonglonglonglonglonglonglonglonglong time. just because soemthing isn't likely to happen often doesn't mean that it won't happen when given enough time. that is how electricity works, electrons jumping from one layer of the atom to another without going in between. It is something very unlikely for any particular electron to go through, but there are so many that it happens quite frequently.

I'll go through lists and I'm all "I remember that one!" Natural selection explains a lot about the way the world is today. Evolution is something separate, and tries to explain how we exist at all. (The Big Bang is again something separate.) I enjoy science as a whole, but to me, Evolution is not scientific at all. xp *nods* And I completely agree about the Religion thing. You're not allowed to be racist, you're not allowed to say that other people's ways of doing things are wrong, and you're right (and I agree with that) but you're allowed to bully people who have religious beliefs into doing what you want them to do. And that is a whooole 'nother rant. And Telor, yes, but what is it's agenda? (Also, WTF to the hate mail.) I seem to remember something about being annoyed that Intelligent Design would be taught in schools. Why? Shouldnt we welcome more theories? (I certaintly would. One so-far feasable one, and one not-feasable one doesnt seem enough right now.)

Satire doesn't usually have an agenda, Cindy. I think you're being paranoid. confused
And intelligent design is hardly new, just the name is.

Evolution and natural selection may be different phenomenon but natural selection is what drives evolution, or at least makes it tend to create a beneficial product. genes mutate, usually causing death, every now and then deformity or disability, and then every once in a while the mutation is beneficial, and because of natural selection the organisms with those genes tend to live longer and reproduce. I believe the idea of natural selection was not proposed until the theory of evolution.

I had a Religions of Asia test today; I couldn't remember all of the Four Noble Truths. gonk
Again: metaphysics and I do not mix. Sure, I can comprehend most concepts during lectures, or when reading, but if I need to explain them to someone else, or in an essay, I end up like...."desire leads to suffering, something about the Eightfold Path, something else about suffering, and...Theravada! Mahayana! Bodhisattvas? D: " My interest in world religions lies more in how people adapt their cultures to a spreading religion and vice versa, than in the doctrines themselves. >___>
I'm hungry. D: I missed breakfast AGAIN (I'll turn off my alarm clock and fall asleep again instead of just getting out of bed), and the only things I've consumed today are two Tagalong cookies, some pineapple, some chocolate brittle stuff, and most of a small bottle of cranberry juice that I couldn't open until I brought it with me to Ancient History Tools. crying Dinner is in less than an hour away, fortunately...*is a hungry hungry Gryphon* I love my Ancient History class; we'll talk about the most random things. Someone wanted to know why most coins have the heads side in profile instead of a front view, and that took up a good several minutes of discussion...
