I know, but I suppose I'm really raw about the whole situation, so it's best that I not become bitter.
Oh, I certainly will in the annual individual talks this January-February. Especially since my role at the current client is taking over for somebody else who I know is paid at least double what I am (and I'm taking on what was his full workload), I have ample ground to stand upon for salary negotiation.
Part of what bothers me is that my salary, while appropriate for a junior developer, is inadequate for several reasons: 1) CT has the highest cost of living in the US, so salaries are supposed to be a little higher here. 2) The client pays the same amount for me as they did for the previous guy, so my company can afford it. 3) I worked for 3.5 years as a programmer at my college. 1 full year plus 2 summers and 2 winters of that were full time, and the 5 semesters were 10 hrs/week. Combine that together and I have 2 years of experience under my belt, but nearly every company I spoke to back during my job search dismissed it sight unseen. Yes, I did have lessened responsibilities during the first 2.5 years of that, but I still gained a load of experience there. 4) Given the at least 2 full-time-equivalent years of experience I have, jobs requiring that much experience pay double at least.

eek
Yeah . . . I got nothing. That is not an argument for a pay raise, that is a solid case to take over your supervisor's job in my opinion. I mean, you raise multiple solid points and can back them up with relevant facts. Just . . . wow.

I'll grant you that I half-botched my interview, but I'm always terrible at those. I even took proficiency tests they wanted me to take and scored well on all of them, so I don't think my interview performance should have affected that much (I did get the job, after all).
I appreciate the support. Yeah, it's so typical of business people to devalue those with technical backgrounds just b/c we're the get-it-done people (which is funny, b/c we're not, as we design entire systems and are thorough enough to think of every possibility, which the business users rarely do). *sigh* I've always hated the business world and the fact that Software Engineers are treated as low-rung business people instead of on the level of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers...

Honestly, I loathe office politics. I have the old 80's work ethic in that I want my work to speak for me. I want raises and promotions to be based on what I can do, not who I kiss up to. Of course, that has led to missed opportunities and such sucks, but still . . . nobody can say I didn't earn every last thing I've done. No favors were pulled for me to get what I have.
In your case, not only do I support you as somebody I care about, but also for doing shite I can't. What you do is more complicated than I dare even try to handle. ^_^;;;;

Yes, I uphold the protestant work ethic, which is definitely more in line w/ the 80s than now. That's why I dislike the focus on the 21st century's 4 Cs above actual skill...
While I do hold technical skill, you directly help people, which is certainly a noble calling.

I'm sorry. I there's any justice, I know you'll eventually be able to find a job in your field somewhere.

Without hope, it's hard to have anything else, so one must keep up the positive outlook (w/o being delusional with optimism).

That's good, and I'm sure you'll enjoy taking some well-deserved time off of work for that vacation.
