"Thank you." She smiled and picked up a fig cookie with the tips of her long fingers.
Bia Grey was a doctor. However, she was not a medical practitioner- she was a chemist. Never had the woman gone through the long, arduous tasks of memorizing the minutiae of what the human body is capable of- nor did she learn the gentle touch of a bedside manner or the intricacies of diagnostics. ..Or even the blatant signs of it. Freddie was displaying extreme symptoms of his change- from the sweat to the food intake, and everything else- Bia didn't notice, and ate on blissfully.
She would have made a terrible doctor.

Once he sat down Freddie found his appetite was gone, or at least buried under the nausea that had washed over him during the torturous walk to the line and back. No one else was around to see the state he was in, and he was glad. Bia didn't seem to notice, and that made him deliriously happy. He kept sweating anyway, but fanning the collar of his shirt would only draw attention to that- and probably his chest too. He wished he'd gotten something to drink while he was up, but he couldn't handle going back there again.
He drained what was left of his tea, mostly melted ice, and didn't feel much better for it. His tongue no longer felt like sandpaper, but he still couldn't think of what to say.
"D'ya ever get lonely at times?"
He hadn't thought about saying that, it just fell out. He still couldn't connect loneliness with that fact taunting and beating people was no way to make friends.
He should have run when he had the chance.

She looked up, her mouth full of cookie. A bit of masticated fig fell out of the side of her beak- she was unused to the lack of feeling of it compared to the much more sensuous human lips- and sometimes things like that happened.
"Since I got here," she said, her voice muffled. She was not as surprised to hear herself agree. After all, she had said about as much to Aubrey when she'd asked to be relocated. Bia was not a pillar of strength- she never had purported to be such.

Freddie stared at Bia blankly with the straight answer. He expected, or more like he hoped for, her to brush of the question. That would have been so much easier.
"Me too."
He cut a sliver of the cake with his fork, but it wasn't getting any more appetizing. As fell to staring at it, he realized he'd just admitted some kind of weakness. He'd only been talking to the woman long enough to shovel down a little bit of food, and somehow he was crumbling right in front of her, saying things he normally wouldn't utter even when drunk. This was a new low.
He took another bite of cake.

She nodded, a sage look on her face as if said so much more than his simple corroborating statement. Bia looked down at the plate Freddie'd brought her, but instead of debating whether or not to eat another Fig Newton, her thoughts were on her secret. This connection with another person- and another ex-staff member, at that, excited her. For the first time, she was tempted to tell someone else. She pushed a cookie to the edge of the plate with her fused pair of fingers, speaking to Freddie even as her eyes were away from him.
"Is it better here...than the labs?"

Freddie opened his mouth to vehemently deny it... but the spark of anger died quickly. He wasn't accustomed to stopping and thinking before doing anything, but with his mood in the toilet like it was it was hard to must the will to lash out or deny it.
He wouldn't have had the luxury of lying around moping or pounding the walls when he was still on the lab's payroll. It was like boot camp. He got up, he went through his shift doing and going where he was told, and if he was having a bad day he just had to find some outlet for it. Newt had been good for that until he'd been thrown over the fence, not so much after Freddie joined him.
"I guess so."
Except for the boobs and the shrinkage. The other changes barely registered in comparison to those.

She almost said it. She almost said 'I think so, too.' It was only a scrap of willpower- paired with the few memories she had of seeing the boisterous staff member in the hallways of the labs or even the way he'd snapped at her when coming in. Bia would give him a while, yet, before she trusted him with her secret.
"Thank you for the cookies," she said, tucking the last one in the pocket of the pair of light blue capri pants she'd altered to fit the nub of her tail through a slit in the back. "I'm headed back to my duplex to do some reading. Thank you for keeping me company during lunch." She picked up her tray and smiled in his direction, not quite meeting his eyes.

"Yeah... Uh, yer welcome."
Freddie's shoulders slumped, he was so relieved. He discovered a few other places were sweat had pooled along the way, but it didn't matter. She was leaving before him, which meant he'd won... Won what? He hadn't run off, but it wasn't even a fight. They'd only talked, and he'd made himself look like a fool the whole while. He didn't get why Bia made him so uncomfortable, or why he still felt hot.
He smiled back, though it was still a little strained. "I'll see ya around."
And he hoped he did, another surprise.
Once Bia was gone, Freddie remained sitting at a few minutes. He stared at his food, and once he felt it was safe to stand and throw everything away he knew something had to wrong with him. He paused at the cafeteria door to make sure to the coast was clear, then he went back to his duplex. He didn't feel any less weird when he got there.

New Rp *********************
Lauren sat happily in the cafeteria eating her meal. Her plate contained fryed grubbs over scrambled eggs and she ate this very fast and contently. She sat in her wheel chair happy to be back to the village, to gain her freedom away from the labs.

Victor had skipped lunch and dinner yesterday after his run in with Chubbs, instead eating from the package of beef jerky that he had bought with him to the island. the next day, after failing to get ahold of anyone at the labs over the the intercom, he had to go out and find the caferteria, needing to get himself a real meal to eat. After a short walk he found and went into the caferteria, noticing that there was only one other person there, and in a wheelchair, but with her back to him, he hadn't noticed her animalistic feature yet. "Hey there" Victor said as he grabbed a tray and a plate, looking over the choices and putting some meatloaf and potato on his plate before walking over towards the other diner,

Lauren's hoodie was covering most of her animalistic features, except for her obvious black nose and orange horizontally slitted eyes. While the fur on her face was starting to grow back it had been gone.
She didn't notice Victor comming so was a little startled to hear a voice in the room. She had been in her own little dream world so didn't notice the scent of human in the air.
Lauren turned around, a bit disapointed this person was human, "Oh..hey" She said back. She hoped not to have to give him the talk.

Victor stopped for a moment, a little surprised to see that the other person was mostly hidden under the hoodie, he was still a short distance away, and couldn't see the black nose or orange eyes. Victor looked around the caferteria a moment before focusing on Lauren again "mind if i join you?"

Lauren gave the human a mischevious smile, "Go right ahead." She answered. The girl was so unpredictable in the first impressions she gave, some people she was friendly to right off the bat, others she batted their brains around like a play toy. Cat and mouse was Lauren's favorite psychological game.
But at this point in time she wasn't feeling the mental strength required in playing with minds. Friendliness was the easiest thing for her to do, as that was the mongooses way. Make friends, have a society to take over the prey and fight off predators.
She looked Victor over, "So, you're new here?" She asked popping a greasy grub into her mouth.

Victor smiled a little, putting his tray down and taking a seat across from Lauren, watching as she popped a grub into her mouth. What's that she's eating? was that a bug? It reminded Victor of Chubbs eating the fish when they first ran into each other. "Yeah..got here a couple days ago...it's been an interesting experiance so far" Victor said as he looked Lauren over a bit more, noticing the orange eyes hidden in that hoodie. "I'm Victor by the way"

Lauren's eyes widened, "Just a couple days ago! Well you've still got a lot of human time left. Enjoy it while it last." She said grimly.
She took another bite, "I'm Lauren." She replied. Lauren didn't really know how to carry on the conversation. She hoped Victor had something to add. Maybe it was easier to be cruel to people. Pleasantries didn't come easily and were very dull.
