Just played my first game with the new codex, a little 750 point skirmish, and I performed well below what I consider my best. sweatdrop I took high casualties and my dice absolutely murdered me.

That and every shot I was taking was denying armor saves. If the dice had been more in your favor, I think it would have gone a lot differently for you. You had me well outnumbered.

Also, Orders appear to be absolutely badass. Again, though, it depends on the dice.
I'd like to see the list in question.
Mostly a just-for-fun list, but I thought it'd be more effective than it was. The lack of vehicles is deliberate.

While it doesn't lack in manpower I do feel that it lacks in heavy support weaponry. It might've been better to ditch the third platoon and take two or three heavy weapon squads instead. Giving those squads orders is harder due to a lower Ld and a lack of vox casters. And kraks are overrated, sure everybody taps asses nowadays, but giving all those squads krak grenades is a bit of a waste. Those 35 points could've easily be spent on something more useful, like some Ratlings or a Master of Ordnance.

Speaking of vox casters, your list lacks them. If you want to make the most of the order system then vox casters are essential. That re-roll can save battles, especially when you have rotten luck of rolling a double six, with a vox net you can re-roll and fix that.

My own small game list is a tad low on numbers but makes up for that with a Leman Russ and a Scout Sentinel with autocannon.

Command: power weapon, banner, medic, vox, meltagun and Master of Ordnance

Ratlings (3)

Platoon command: power weapon, banner, vox and flamer (2)
Squad: flamer, vox
Squad: grenade launcher, vox

Squad: flamer, vox
Squad: grenade launcher, vox

Scout Sentinel: autocannon

Leman Russ: heavy bolters (3)

total: 750

Now for fun I'd field this little force, just because we can! Low on troops and it sucks at kicking armour but it is pretty tough itself.

Lord commissar: power weapon

Ratlings (5)

Veterans: power weapon, plasma pistol, grenade launcher (2)

You really think voxcasters are worth the points, in practice? Even with my miserable luck last game, I only had one or two orders fail to be issued, and both squads still act normally (can still shoot if failing FRSR, can still run without Move Move Move) if the order fails.

For me vox casters are totally worth it, I've used them in several games so far and they have yet to let me down, granting me an almost 100% success ratio in executing orders as they should. Plus the re-rolls allow for the pleasant surprise of maybe rolling snake eyes, granting you another order for free.

However, orders do not really save the day, they aren't as impacting as say, Acts of Faith.

Gonna quote this one for a moment, it got buried away a little too quickly.

The upcoming multi-part plastic kit of the Hellhound, which also includes parts for the Devil Dog and Banewolf. But not the Chimera itself. This kit will be released this August along with other redone tank kits* and metal characters for the Imperial Guard.

* Rumour has it that these will be a general artillery tank boxed set with in it the Basilisk, Medusa, Colossus and Griffon along with a Russ boxed set, which will either include regular chassis variants** or the heavy chassis variants***.

** Leman Russ, Exterminator, Vanquisher and Eradicator.

*** Demolisher, Punisher and Executioner.

Swap the Leman Russ for a Valkyrie and you got yourself a store example army made up mostly of new stuff. It is pretty weak, lacking both in anti-tank and anti-horde weaponry.

Don't like them myself, I prefer vanilla Valkyries instead of that cheap afterthought. xp
PostPosted: Sun May 31, 2009 12:57 pm

I don't like the Vendetta either, especially not because it really clashes with the background. This entry really is an afterthought, just look at the cheapness of the model: 130 points for three twin-linked lascannons on a fast skimmer that can scout and deep-strike.

I'm putting my money on the following August releases being done:
- Hellhound/Banewolf/Devil Dog kit --confirmed
- "Heavy" Leman Russ boxed set (Demolisher, Punisher and Executioner)
- Artillery boxed set (Basilisk, Medusa, Griffon and Colossus)
- Plastic Storm Troopers boxed set
- Knight Commander Pask blister
- Sergeant Lukas Bastonne blister

in my opinion vendetta'sare pretty much useless I mean if you're only moving 6 inches with your valkyrie you're not using it correctly.I'd rather have the one lascannon and zip around the table redeploying my troops.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 01, 2009 2:51 am

The Vendetta's lascannons are twin-linked, which makes them somewhat suited at medium armour hunting. With a little luck you can also pop AV 14 with a salvo, but that's really stretching things.

Hmm, for fifteen points I can give my Valkyrie a lascannon, while for thirty points I can get a Vendetta with three twin-linked lascannons. So I wouldn't call the Vendetta completely useless, but it is a one-trick pony that needs to get the most out of its shooting as soon as it arrives.

I've noticed that as always people tend to shoot the new toys first when a new codex comes out and after a few months people get wiser. Right now people seem to be more hell-bent than ever to shoot those command squads. And that sneaky psychic battle squad, people are already fearing it at our store, even though nobody has enough psykers for a full squad as of yet. xp

Oh ******** NO. Making the Leman Russ a tiny Baneblade is a bad idea. At least we get easier sponsons and hull mounts, they look easier to magnetize.

edit.

Two new Hellhound kit shots:
