This would also be my preference if I was gonna play a warrior womanz.Trinity's like a mix between a warrior woman and a dexterous assassin. She has worn armor recently, but she was relying a lot more on defense than speed during that arc of her story. Now that she's her usual self again, she likes conservative clothing. It won't be leather. It may be something stronger, maybe scaled or just augmented by magic (which is where the runes come in).

You could try banded.
but,
Full plate is still where its at. Especially when you enchant it to be silent, or give your gauntlets spider climb, and then you're silently creeping around the ceilings in full plate and no one is any wiser.
That's when you drop down and Sephiroth a b***h in the back with your greatsword.

Well I mean, it's leather. It'll still function as armor, may even be more effective if he applies some creative thinking and modern body armor. Or he could just go with something like this  But if he's going to go with old leather designs then he might as well just walk on with a super material vest underneath a shirt or something.
