I think this is a good start for a small air mobile army. I'd take pictures but you've seen what I've got lying around. crying

Just played my first game with the new codex, a little 750 point skirmish, and I performed well below what I consider my best. sweatdrop I took high casualties and my dice absolutely murdered me.

That and every shot I was taking was denying armor saves. If the dice had been more in your favor, I think it would have gone a lot differently for you. You had me well outnumbered.

Also, Orders appear to be absolutely badass. Again, though, it depends on the dice.

I'd like to see the list in question.

I'd really like to see how it looks, especially alongside that T-bolt of yours. And as before, I'd be more than happy to help with any army building. wink

For airmobile bad@$$-ness, watch "Ride of the Valkyries" scene from "Apocalypse Now"... 'nuff said.
Guard can be tricky in low points games as they have something of a snowball effect - everything is better in larger numbers of them...

Always a little too eager to help. I was thinking something along the lines of a small rapid insertion force geared towards up close fighting, something this army really isn't suited for! sweatdrop

HQ
Command squad: carapace, power weapon, meltagun, medic, banner, vox (180)

Troops
Veterans: power weapon, shotguns, vox, 3x flamer (100)
Veterans: lasguns, vox, autocannon, 3x grenade launcher (100)

Fast Attack
Scout Sentinel: multi-laser

Valkyrie: lascannon, hellstrike missiles (115)

Valkyrie: multi-laser, rocket pods, heavy bolters (140)
Valkyrie: multi-laser, rocket pods, heavy bolters (140)

Heavy Support

Thunderbolt: 4x bomb (220)

1000 points

The Thunderbolt is filler but I'm kinda hell-bent on fielding it sooner or later as I'd hate having such a lovely model collect dust all the time. If need be I can swap the Thunderbolt for something more conventional like a pair of Hydra's and some more men, but I more or less want to stick to the theme of a rapid insertion force.

Hate to say it but your list is severely undergunned at the very least. You could swap the Sentinel for three Ratlings, maybe even four if you give your opponent a cheeky grin and a wink.

However, in essence I can see what it is you want to pull off with that list of yours. The Thunderbolt might net you some harsh criticism and bad words, but other than that the list is something of an air-mobile affair. If shove comes to push it might be best to just ditch the Thunderbolt (Heresy! I know) and take a small infantry platoon with autocannons instead.

Ideally I'd say take some storm troopers but those are expensive as hell and not really worth taking in such a low number list. Not unless you also plan on taking either an Astropath or giving them a Valkyrie of their own.

You sure are endorsing those Hobbit assassins a lot. I guess they are a better option when it comes down to it but I thought of taking a Scout Sentinel as a swift recon ranging ahead of the main force. Kinda pointless though seeing as Valkyries also gain scout but at a much better speed. sweatdrop

So if I were to drop my Thunderbolt I'd be stuck with 220 points to spend on something like this:

Platoon command: power fist, vox, flamer, meltagun (65)
Infantry squad: grenade launcher, autocannon, vox (70)
Infantry squad: grenade launcher, autocannon, vox (70)

I could also drop the Sentinel then and take a full blister of Hobbits.

Hmmm, I'll need to think this over.

I know it doesn't fit the theme but having more bodies on the table will help you stick around a bit longer. I'm not sure why but I am really getting attached to a unit I used to loathe during previous editions. Maybe it's the newly done models that swayed me. They could count as path finders for your main force, preferring to creep up close instead of flying in a box with wings. Plus the infantry platoon could be irregulars or rookie troops who still need to earn their wings and right to wear the armour.

It's a preview of the new Hellhound boxed set with all three weapon options included.

Hey Mel, I'm surprised you didn't post these yet: Imperial Guard Cities of Death "tactics" and strategems.

I like this strategem and conversion the best:
