"I want to see it," Kevin said. "Will you show me? When we go to town?" He looked back to Dari. "Really? How do you get it?" He offered Dari the 3ds so he could demonstrate.
"Like a mirror?" he asked, looking to Toby. "Cool. So we're invisible!"

"Sure," Toby replied with a shrug.
Dari shook his head and handed the game back. "You have to go back to the village with the shop and buy the most expensive item, then sell it back. You might have to grind before you have enough gold, though. I think it's worth it."
Toby nodded. "Sort of. We're invisible to the outside, though."

Kevin closed the 3ds and smiled. "I'll have to grind later," he said. "How'd you do it, make us invisible? Magic?"

Toby nodded. "Little bit of science too."
The building and the barriers had been there before he had come, and the technology behind it was vague and permanent. It could be recreated at the very least.
"Most of what we do is partially magical and partially technological. The science has not been released to the public and has been found in various ways," Dari said.
The trio entered the building as Toby held the door open and headed up toward the kelpie's apartment, pulled a key from his pocket, and unlocked the door.
"Home sweet home," Toby said, nudging it open with his foot.

Magic and science together, awesome.
He entered the apartment once Toby nudged the door open, and studied it. "Sort of plain," he said, setting his 3ds on the table. He looked around. "I have my own furniture," he observed. "That's new."

"Yup," Toby said, "If you end up staying a long time you can start to customize, but for now it's just the base model for all new entities. I lived in one of these a while." It was the most miserable time of his life. "The kitchen is stocked with pots and pans if you want to put in for raw food and cook yourself, but we'll show you the pantry after this. Bedroom is there, bathroom there, and of course the living room and the dining area. Nobody'll have the key but you, me, and the building manager."

"Really? So you were a new entity too," this idea seemed to please Kevin. "Maybe I'll be the next top agent, and get to blow things up." Hm. Cooking didn't really appeal to him. He much preferred going out for food. "I don't know how to use any of this stuff," he said, poking his head into the kitchen.

"I was, a long time ago," Toby said with a nod. He decided not to remark on the kid's newly-considered hopes and dreams. "You'll probably have to use the microwave or oven at least, but you can just take the stuff in packaging. Unfortunately we can't have take-out delivered here, for obvious reasons."
"We can also have someone teach you how to use these," Dari said, gesturing to the kitchen appliances, "I could do it myself if you'd like. Or my partner. You'll want to stay fed, I'm certain."

"You'll teach me?" he looked at Toby, then Dari. "You can teach me to make pizza. We can have tons of it, I have my own fridge. That way I can store it." Food didn't last long, not at the lake.

"Oh... that's not really in the job description, but we can get you set up with the kitchen here and find you a recipe," Toby said. Was pizza all this kelpie had been eating? No wonder his agents had been so damn bored and annoyed with him. "Then once you're able to move out of here you can keep on living." Except he was young, so he'd either be here a while or have to move out to a group home or with a mentor.

For the first time, the kelpie looked disappointed. But Dari had said--hadn't he said they could teach him? "Alright," he agreed.

"Do you want to go see the pantry?" Toby asked. He pulled a key from his pocket and offered it to Kevin. "I'd offer to help you make lunch but you just ate. I could teach you how to make dinner before we leave, and then you could warm it up if you were hungry?" Not pizza from scratch, though. Hell no. He wasn't going through all that trouble for someone that'd be just as happy with a boxed one for the oven.
Dari suddenly remembered: "Oh. The globe is in your closet. It is rather large, do try to not do any damage to it. It'd be fine if it evaporated while your had your necklace on, but just in case."

It was a few days later when Dari came downstairs for breakfast with an odd sort of smile on his face.
"I think I've figured it out," he said proudly. Toby arched a brow as he offered Dari his cinnamon raising bagel. The alien began to spread it with cream cheese.

Maia looked up when Dari came downstairs, flashing him a smile. It'd taken some getting used to, him joining them for breakfast now, but it was nice. Breakfast with the family. "Figured what out?" she asked.

"I'm homosexual," Dari said, still proudly. He took a smiling bite of his bagel.
Toby's eyes widened and his brows raised. "Well then! Good on you. It's not exactly what I'd been expecting, but it's all good."
"I watched several videos, and I've decided that I must be homosexual."
Toby just nodded and began toward the dining room table with the alien.
"It sounds like you want something out of this," Toby said.
"I do. I need your help. I want to experience gay culture."
Toby laughed with surprise and choked on his bagel. Oop!
