"Lori," The kelpie echoed. That was much easier, yes, he liked that. "Hm. So what do we do first?" he asked. He looked up to Toby. "Do you have to go work on other cases now? Will you be back?"

Toby nodded. "I'll be back to show you your room," he said with a little smile, and then spoke to Lori: "Page me when you're finished?"
Lori nodded. "Sure."
Tobi gave a little nod and left the room. Lori smiled to the kelpie and gestured to the chair on the other side of his desk. "Please, sit."

The kelpie sat, and looked at Lori. "Agent Werewolf told me about you," he said. "He says you're the top research agent. I think that makes you a geek. What will you teach me first?"

"Can you read?" Lori asked. He began shuffling through his papers. "I have a plan for you. It's about the same as any other, altered a little for your perceived age." He'd have to learn to read and do at least basic math. Lori only ever really got into history with people who truly wanted to learn, not people who just wanted to integrate.
"We'll probably start with laws."

"No," the kelpie said, blinking. He wasn't surprised by the question, though--if he wanted to have pizza priviledges and video games, he might as well learn to read. "I can recognize some words."
"Laws?"

"Alright. You can speak English, so that's half the battle. You'll be working with Dari on that," Lori said. He pulled out a contract and placed it before the boy. "Laws. Like what you can and cannot do. Keep you out of prison, like." he offered the boy a pen.
"This just says you agree to teaching and won't out the Bureau to anyone on the outside, not that they'd believe you unless they were a very particular kind of person anyway."

"Oh, yeah, I don't think prison would be very fun." The kelpie wrinkled his nose at the idea of being locked up in a cell. "Alright."
He looked to the contract. He couldn't read it, so he had to trust Lori about what it said. "Are you crazy? Who would do that? Hey I'm a kelpie, I eat people, come kill me now!" He shook his head. He put a big X on the line and looked back to Lori.

Lori chuckled. "Yeah, well, we're a federal-international institution. There's a whole lot of red tape."
He pulled out the kelpie's potential schedule then and went over it with him, the subjects and the times and the place. When finished, he looked back up to the boy. "Is there anything you'd like to change or work around?" he asked.

"No, it's fine," the kelpie said. "Laws first. Agent Werewolf said I can go to town soon. But I need an identity. How do I get one?"

"Oh, so you do want to integrate? Well..." he looked up toward the clock, "I have a little time now if you want to get started? It's sort of a process but the sooner it's done the better. Once you have an identity you can have an ID, learn to drive, get a phone and a bank account, all of that sort of thing." He pulled up a program on his computer. If the kelpie couldn't read, he certainly couldn't fill out the forms himself. Maia had at least been able to read Gaelic.

"Mhmmm, he told me if I relocate instead I won't be able to have pizza." That factor alone had been part of what had convinced him. That and, fighting for food with other unseelies. "Learn to drive?" He asked, grinning. "And a phone? Let's get started."

"Okay," Lori said, "A name first. Do you have one you'd like to use or do you want to look one up...?" The idea that all kelpies were Scottish or Irish was pure buffoonery, so they didn't even really have a nationality to start with except 'American'. "Even a favorite letter sound could help."

"I like K," the kelpie provided. Look one up? Kelpie started with K, and all sorts of nice things started with that sound. Kites, killing, kittens--all sorts. "How do we look up names?"

"I have a book," Lori said, getting up and then rethinking it and sitting back down. The kelpie wasn't going to be able to read the names in the book. He brought up a site that listed names and their meanings instead, chose 'American' and 'English,' chose 'male,' and began reading the "K" names off in alphabetical order. It would be a tedious process.

The kelpie was becoming bored, though he was still listening to Lori rattle off names. He twiddled his thumbs, pulled out his 3ds, started the game, and paused. "I like Kevin," he said, after Lori reached the Ke names. "I think I'll keep that."
