Saphen...I don't know if it helped your fight or not, but everytime Saphen spoke, I heard him speaking in the voice of Antonio Banderas.

Well, y'know, Goku was never about being intelligent as much as being a fun-loving good guy. That's what made him the most powerful fighter in the universe - the fact that he's basically an agent of peace.
As you get further into the series they realize that individually they've met their peak power levels, so that's why ( in addition to immediate needs ) (( god that sounded gay )) they get into that whole fusing business. It's a very direct way of representing the fact that Goku and Vegeta together as friends are capable of taking on any challenge, after they've gotten over their own personal issues. In fact, Vegeta fusing or basically helping anyone but himself in general was a major turning point for his character.
The villains themselves just changed in power level as the heroes did, even though... some of them were around, they just weren't paying any attention to anyone. And, yeah, Janemba ( sp? ) got one-punched and thoroughly owned... oh well.
I personally only paid attention to the cool characters,
Android 18, Broly, Chiatzou, Gohan, Cell, Trunks, Yajirobe, Master Roshi, Goku ( to a point ), and Pan.
I think I'm missing a couple but it's early. @_______@;;
