*Now that the ship was well away and secured to the dock, he looked amidship and about to order for the Crew to square away and make the deck presentable, when he realized it was as cleanly and shipshape as a brig could get. Thinking better of the moment, he turned to Miss Ares, who stood at the main hatch on the maindeck.*

"Miss Ares, if your crew is ready, I'd like it very much if you were to accompany me into the naval-yard and we'll go shopping for your new bouncing baby 24 pounders. Mind you each weighs over 1800 pounds, so bring along the galley carriage, if you'd please.

We also must find a ship's carpenter so we might set him to work on outfitting the Lady with a few more gunports. I'm willing to sacrifice my quarters so as to equip it with four guns, two a side. Then forward on the bow, we'll nestle two 12 pounders within the bulkhead. These shall serve as our bow chasers. Then once that is finished we'll figure out how we would like the sternchasers rigged.

So, let's get ashore right away and get hopping, shant we?"

*Grabbing his hat out of the binnacle, he went below to fetch his sword, changed into his hession boots and then returned to the deck and awaited the shore party.*

Breaking off the words of the song into a mere whistle now, she glanced over at Maleria, noticing the look on her face. She raised her hand and lightly tapped the woman with the back of it, a merry smile on her face. "Here now, don't ye be gettin' all flustered. If you're this excited on the shoreline, how well do ye think ye'll get on once ye are on the ship, eh? Chin up, m'lady, and never say die."
She grinned, obviously aware of how strange she must look to not only the lovely lady beside her, but to anyone else who happened to see her. Now, if only the captain of that fine vessel would understand that looks weren't everything.

With the Lady secured safely in the yard, Baxter stood up and grabbed his belongings. He made his way down to the docking area. He walked along the docks to the Lady's portside where a gangplank was just being lowered. With that in place, he walked up onto the deck. He observed that the Captain was obviously setting out into the town for some reason or another. He nodded his head as he walked past. He was preparing to go down below to reorganize the Medical Deck. Standing in the hatchway he gave one more good luck out on the town. What a fantastic and terrifying thing war could be, he thought to himself.

*With a certain bounce to his step, Kurisutofa lead the Guncrew through the recnetly cleared streets towards the Naval Armorment Building. The storm had passed and the City seemed almost cleansed. The sun now shown brightly, an almost dreadful heat. Here and there, piles of debris and rubble littered the grounds.

It was to be expected that one would see such devastation after such a furious battle, but it would prove useful for the City of Toulon. They could use it for a new shore embankments or chip it into smaller pieces and regravel their roads. So much use could be made of the debris...

Putting a hand in the air that would bring the company to a hault, he ceased his march and looked about. Turning to Miss Ares...*

"Hauling these 1,800 pound guns shall be a laborious business, would it not? Now, if you were to be working under such a blazing sun, wouldn't you want a little comfort while you work? Maybe a little music, or some refreshment? I do believe that it would suite well, don't you think?"

*Looking about the Guncrew, he tried to pick one of them out of the bunch that could run back to the ship and request some lemonade & cake from the good Cook. Yet, none of them seemed to be expendable, therefore, scanning the nearby road, he spotted the former prisoner and called to her..*

"AHOY! MISS JADEN! LAY OVER AND COME HERE, LASS."

Syn swiveled on her heel and followed the crew, albeit through a more vague and winding path, hidden by rubble so they wouldn't notice her at first. She moved quickly and with ease, used to making her way around the ruins of the town by now. She was almost completely silent, the only sound being the shuff of her pants as she moved her legs. Tuslo, apparently able to tell when his mistress wanted quiet, made not a peep and huddled close to her head. After she had managed to go a little ways ahead of the crew and captain, she quickly moved out into the cobblestoned street, her boots clomping loudly to announce her prescence (quite possibly on purpose).
Her one good eye gleaming brightly, she raised a hand in a somewhat informal salute and trilled, "Ahoy, Cap'n of the fair Lady! I have a proposition to make of ye!" Hopefully the insane part wouldn't keep him from listening to her; after all, it was his and his crew's fault her mind was a little twisted.

*Hearing his name being called to attention in a shrill and rather crude voice, Captain Kurisutofa turned his head slowly to find a woman standing about a 8 fathoms away from the ship's company. She stood there with her arm raised in a kind of mock salute. As flattering as it was that someone was slauting him, which was a first in over 20 years, he found the salute ot be more of a common 'hey, how ya' doin' than anything else.

Touching the tip of his wide hat in general acceptance of the mock salute, he called to the wild haired Lass that had summoned his undivided attention. Stepping forth from Miss Ares & her Guncrew, the Captain takes a humble stance and bows curtiously.*

"I am Captain J. Kurisutofa of the Pirateer Brig 'Lady Washington'.
What business brings you to me, stranger?"

Putting her arm at her side, Syn realized her voice had gone up an octave from its normal husky tone and she lowered it immediately. Work on the voice, Syn... She coughed and patted Tuslo on the head, the macaw lifting his head to blink at the captain with tiny black eyes. She took a step forward and her head tilted to one side in a little smirk.
"Syn De Beumont, sir. Well, see, the last time ye 'ad yore crew through these parts, ye sent one o' yore twenty pounders through the wall o' the bank I worked in. It burned down, and I lost an eye as well as a tiny bit o' my brain. Nothin' truly important was lost besides a bit o' a change in personality.... however!"
She took another step forward, spreading her hands wide.
"I'm fully capable, quite keen eyed despite the loss o' one, very good with the numbers, and now I'm outta a job. If ye need services as a Ship's Purser or the like, I'm the one you want."

She watched as the crew trooped off the ship and headed towards the deep jungle like road. Noticing her companion followed, she decided to follow suit, not wanted to be left here by herself.

*Jaden followed the Doctor to the docks, traversing rubble and littered remains along the way. After seeing the Doctor stop to sit on a particularly large piece of masonry, she swung the bag from her back and settled down beside him, a little awkwardly.

~~~
Her thoughts turned once more to the boat before her, making it's way to the dock. She worked so hard to sneak aboard for some items for trade as well as possible enjoyment. Instead, she was caught by the very doctor she was now seated beside. The taunting that insued due to her hasty behavior, caused her to temporarily lose her lockpicking tools, as well as almost having the only item her father had given her taken from her for her insolence.
She dwelled on the hours she took cleaning the medical deck: The scrubbing the floors, sweeping and relaying of sand... and the arduous task of doing it TWICE due to a crewmember who thought it amusing to make the prisoner do something again because of a tiny blemish on an otherwise clean floor... and then the reaction of the Doctor when he found out what was happening.
Her heart nearly stopped when the Doctor had crouched down before her and spoke softly rather than harshly. He had been covered in blood and weapons... a rather shocking sight for her, seeing someone who was to be helping save lives, instead of taking them yet dressed as if to kill should you look at him wrong.
Her thoughts drifted from the softened demeanor he displayed on the medical deck despite his rather disheveled look, to the recent meandering through shops and storefronts as well as her accidently spying on the Doctor bathing. They had walked fairly quietly through the storm, and her little glimpse around the corner of the shop down the narrow alley only caused her to remain more mute whilest walking a little behind him as they worked their way back to port.
~~~

The gangplank slamming against the dock brought her mind swiftly back to the present. A moment of flushed embarassment flooded her cheeks as she looked over at the Doctor, as he started to get his newly found supplies. An odd look crossed his face as she looked at him, yet, he said nothing. It was as if he was making a mental note to ask her something later. The thought of having to discuss her reddened face only confused her more. The Doctor settled the items he needed in an easy to carry matter so that he could cart them aboard.

The Captain could be seen coming down to the docks as she started to grab her bag of goods, swinging it over her right shoulder. He seemed to be trying to command part of the crew to move new guns aboard as well as speaking to Miss Ares, who looked to be in charge of the numbers he was speaking with.

Jaden started walking slowly around, rather unsure of what to do. She hadn't become crew, merely released from her punishment (by a rather gracious Captain, who, had the results of the battle been reversed, she wondered if may have turned into chum for the sharks in deeper waters). She couldn't stay in Toulon. The battle may have caused those who were hunting her down before to desist for the time being, but she couldn't be sure that her fate with them would want her to atone at a later date. Before she could decide what to do, the Doctor had strode up the plank to the shipdeck and disappeared through the door on the quarterdeck and the Captain had stopped talking to Miss Ares and seemed to have turned his attention to Jaden instead. *

"AHOY! MISS JADEN! LAY OVER AND COME HERE, LASS."
The Captain bellowed to her as she sped up her pace to get closer.

"Y-yes, Captain?... How can I be of assistance, sir?"

*she pushed some stray curls out of her face as she patted her cheeks to attempt to push away the flushed look that crossed her mind only a little while before*

Life aboard the ship was the same as always. People scurried about here and there, listening to and following orders as they were given before they were to return to the lower decks, get food, and then get some shut eye.

Everything was like she had remembered. Yet the usual hustle and bustle was interrupted by the scream for the Captain's attention by the lass off at one side of the boat. Nyssa's eyes would slowly shift from the waters below towards her Grandfather, watching him as he excused himself from Miss Ares and the gun crew to be brought into the attention of the lass. As the two conversed, she would allow herself to hear tidbits of the conversation before a smile would be brought across her lips. The Captain wasn't one to turn a needy person away; his heart was too soft for such a thing. Lifting her shoulders a bit, she would turn around, leaning back and allowing her lower back to rest against the main railing, her arms shifting and crossing over her abdomen as she would tip her head to the side. The tip of her nose would then wrinkle a bit as several of her short raven tresses would swipe across her face and tickle at her nose.

Yet again she had changed a bit since the last time she was seen on deck. Years of having long hair had grown to be quite boring for the lass, so she decided, " Hell, may as well cut some of it off! " And that she did. The majority of her long hair had been cropped off, the longest tendrils reaching down to just above the top of her shoulders. Chuckling a bit, her crimson eyes would cross, staring at the hair which tickled her nose as her hand would lift and brush it off to the side. This action merely averted her attention for a few moments before she would push off from the railing and walk towards the front of the ship. She didn't wish to disturb the crew in any way, so she would rather one of them come to her when they no longer have things to do, rather than her stepping into their working time and get yelled at by either the Captain or one of the higher ranking officers.

As she walked along deck, the cloth to her long skirt shifted in the wind, rubbing against her skin and making that odd sound that fabric makes when it rubs against each other. Her hands slowly unfolded and came to rest at her sides as she would make her way to the front of the boat. Her eyes would peer out at whatever there was to see, though almost everything always seemed the same no matter where she was, in town or out on the sea. Biting down upon her lower lip, the girl would then arch the muscles of her back, bringing her body to bend at the hips and press her palms down against the railing as her back remained straight without any form of curvature, her corset softly pressing in against her belly as she watched the water crashing up against the boat in a feudal assault.

** sorry I've been absent.. family vacation***
Destiny had been in the sheets and sails diligently hauling ropes, sails, tying this rope, loosening that rope, and dashing about giving aid wherever it was called for.
Finally, after the Lady was in her berth, Destiny flopped into her bunk, and was quickly fast asleep.

"So, Miss... Beufont, wasn't it? Your an Accountant, are you?
If that is indeed the case, we are in great need of your skills.
That is if you do, infact, have such.

Mr. Cubby, our former purser, has left us without the properly filed papers that normally coincide with Cargo & Shipment Books and has been stripped of his title and has been re-rated. He knew nothing of the ways of a Purser really, so you will understand when I must ask you for a sort of resume before addressing you further on the matter. I would so terribley hate to be mislead in employing you in such a place of high responsibility.

Therefore, until you place within my hand, proof of your position... I shall write you into the Lady's Muster as a Clerk. Simple tasks until you are re-rated. Does that not sound fine? I do hope it suites you..."

*Without so much as a turn of the head, he addresses Miss Jaden.*

"Miss Jaden, if you would be so kind as to take Miss Beufont onboard and see that she is assigned a proper bunk for her to sleep in and then you both may haul your belongings below and find a proper berth for them that is out of the way and private.

Mind you, this is a small Brig, not a Ship-of-the-Line, therefore space shall be limited. I recommend that you see that your trunks are squared away beside the salted pork casks that sit within the Fore-end of the Galley.

Oh, and while your there Miss Jaden... would you please inform Miss Destiny that the entire ship's company is to be piped down for lunch on 8 bells at Noon? I'm sure that everyone is half dead due to hunger by now.

If the Cook is in no need of assistance, would you be so handsome as to then fetch some lemonade and cake for Miss Ares & the Guncrew? They shall be in a great fit for refreshment soon enough.

Please have Miss Beufont assist you in these tasks. Once your both finished, report back to me and I shall address you further on the matter of your joining the ship's company...

*Sharply, he turns his gaze to Miss Beufont once again.*

"Welcome Aboard The Lady Washington, Miss Beufont."

*Signalling for the Guncrew, the Captain presses forth past the self-titled accountant without so much as a look and continues down the road that will shortly bring them to the Naval Yard.*
