Lt. Brookman From what I've heard and seen DE are quite a fierce and competitive army under 5th edition. You might be better off asking it to a rule lawyer or win at all cost guy like Oryn or the likes. It was an open question. whee

The new rules on Blasts always hitting -something- have made Blast-spam Dark Eldar (All squads equipped with Shredders, Ravagers packing a full set of Disintegrators) a fierce contender. All of their base troops have Aspect Eldar stats, but only a 5+ save. They also have the single cheapest transport in the game, with some interesting rules. The only problem is that they suffer from age in a serious way. Rules made at the beginning of 3rd Ed aren't holding so well.
Also, infiltrating 9 mandrake tokens on someone just to watch them try and figure out what the hell is going on is quite a bit of fun.

Absolutely. It's one of those quirky little things that still manages to surprise people, because it's something that just doesn't exist by any parallel anywhere else.

It's called speeding things up. Same with the removal of the separate spore mine phase from the previous Nid codex, as it slowed the game down to a crawl if too many mine clusters were in play.
While some changes are awful, most are much welcomed and needed. While some people might think of the game as a way of acting all high brow and haughty for remembering each and every rule, I'd rather have a game that flows with some modicum of speed and that doesn't grind to a halt every time a convoluted rule needs to be enacted.

The thing is, Mandrake infiltration isn't all that convoluted. I can see how the Spore Mine phase would make a mess of things, but Mandrake Infiltration was a normal part of the movement phase.

webway portal deployment + DE speed can make IG/tau gunlines collapse faster than you can say "close combat"

Van Evok webway portal deployment + DE speed can make IG/tau gunlines collapse faster than you can say "close combat" Only problem is that Dark Eldar are notorious Glass Cannons. The best use of webway portals that I've seen is when using Talos and only bring them and maybe a squad of Warriors through. To keep more off for Webway deployment is just too risky.

Chaos does it in a very hamfisted way, by smashing and choking everything into submission and THEN having their way. Dark Eldar have a wonderful sort of finesse that goes into it.
