*Maggie nods* Aye . . we are where we are, whate'er we choose te make of it. . . *She reaches out to run her fingertips over the spines of the books, her eyes distant for a moment*

*Luke's quiet for a moment. He crosses his arms lightly and leans back against the bookshelf, also for a moment lost in thought.*
*Luke didn't especially like thoughts like that. He liked to think that he had---*
*It's probably the fact that he's just come back from his law exam, having to logically argue most of his thoughts and ideas. He speaks his mind.*
*speculating* Yeah, but don't you think people have the power to change things? *puts his hands up and shakes them a little as he quotes her* I mean, "we are where we are", but things don't have to stay that way.

*Luke's words draw her back, and she looks at him again, turning them over in her mind* I . . . think ye may be right, in a way . . *she furrows her brow, thinking* I suppose, sometimes, 'tis easier te accept things as they are. . . e'en when ye may be unhappy with them. *she sighs slightly and admits* I fear I have been rather guilty of that.

*Luke doesn't know exactly what she means by that. He bets it has something to do with Bard.*
*His brow furrows. He lets a short silence sit between them. He doesn't know quite what to say to that.*
*so he puts a sideways smile on his face and clears his throat* *He lifts up the book "The Peace of Acceptance"* I don't know all that much about "accepting things the way they are", but there's a book over here that can tell you all about it.
*hands it to her, sees if she can read it....*

*Maggie recognizes the attempt to shift the mood and goes along with it, studying the letters on the cover carefully* Ehm . . . the . . p . . pe . . . *she frowns at the letter 'C' and asks* Is it supposed te sound like an 'S' or a 'K' there?

*Maggie nods with a puzzled sort of frown, and mutters, half to herself* Truly, I dinna see why they needed te make an entire other letter when it doesna e'en have its own sound. . .
*she shakes her head and focuses on the title again* The . . peace . . of . . ah . . *and she blinks* Heavens, now two of them.

*Yet Maggie looks at him as though he's a complete authority on the subject - which, compared to her, he is* So . . . the first 'C' has a 'K' sound . . . and the second one the 'S' sound . . . ?
How is it that ye tell which sound te use where?

*clears his throat, as though he is the authority on these things*
Well, it's uh... I mean, because...*Luke tries to remember from grammar school. He remembers recess.* It's the first C so...
*looks at Maggie, a grin growing and realizes* Christ, this is hard.

*Maggie laughs a little and returns the grin* Aye, truly . . I've been fortunate that - *and she cuts herself off, her smile fading*
Well. *she pastes another one on, however false, and looks at the title once more*
If 'tis K and then S . . . . ahhkkk . . . ssehh . . sehp . . . t . . tah . . tahn ..... *and there it is. Another C. She's not sure whether to laugh or sigh, but at this point she has enough of the word to figure out the last bit* Acceptance. The Peace of Acceptance.

*She plucks one off the shelf at random and makes another attempt at reading* Rr . . reht . . rih . . . Retrib ....
