The Manda Ginger Snapple I don't know, Takiko and Rimudo are more mature than Miaka and Tamahome. I don't think Takiko would hide as much from Rimudo. I don't predict many breakups between the two because of how low-profile their relationship is. Miaka and Tamahome were very touchy feely, but Rimudo and Takiko understand that Takiko is the priestess and they cant be as close as they would like to be. I think Takiko will face more of people trying to murder her than rape her. I totally second that. If you've really read and paid attention thus far you can already see how different Rimudo and Takiko are from Miaka and Tamahome. Miaka and Tamahome went just barreling through not really thinking about the consequences or what might happen. Unlike Miaka, Takiko hasn't exactly gotten the greatest reception as a priestess, so essentially, she probably understands that at that moment a relationship with one of her seishi isn't the best of ideas. To love each other enough that they can be able to hold back. Now that is admiring and mature. I don't know if they're really more mature about it, or just more new to the whole concept of being close to someone. Miaka was always surronded by loving people, Tamahome had a big loving family so they were always surrounded by affection making it easier for them to show it.
Takiko and Rimudo had the opposite. Anyone relatively close to Takiko was either taken from her, or rejected her. Same for Rimudo save Souren so showing their effections to eachother is something that they are both shy and still unsure about how to go about it. Rimudo teases Takiko on how she acts and behaves similar to how Tamahome sometimes did to Miaka in the begining. The only difference is Rimudo is more cynical that Tamahome ever was. You still see Takiko get as jealous about girls showing Rimudo attention as Miaka did when the same was going on with Tamahome. (later when Rimudo and Takiko are undercover in the brothel).
It's just that Takiko and Rimudo are more used to bottling up their emotions but even that has slipped from time to time. (when Takiko fades back to her world when they were fighting the Mou)

I'm really not going to add too much, because I just spent the past 36 hours going back and forth from the hospital waiting for my niece to be born and I haven't gotten much sleep.
But jealousy, doesn't reflect maturity or not, its just how it's handled. Its the subtle differences between the two couples that really set them apart. Because Takiko has had such a struggle in her life that has already made her a strong and resilient person. Same probably twicefold for Rimudo. Tamahome and Miaka didn't quite have that. Sure Tamahome was poor but he had his family (course that changed later but in the beginning). I just find the differences in strength in the characters overall by themselves in the beginning to be a factor.
The subtle relationships are some of the best and strongest. When you don't have to see a girl clinging to a guy or being all over him, you know there's a strong bond there.
I don't know about the emotions thing, Takiko still had her mother and her nurse that showed her affection. And Rimudo had Souren and his father. So they had someone, which is important. You don't need a great many people just a few. They don't struggle quite as much as my ex does, so obviously they somehow learned about expressing feelings and emotions.
They're not perfect, but I find them on the whole a lot more believeable and beautiful as a couple than I ever did Tamahome and Miaka.

Congrats on the new neiece!
About the whole, Takiko having her mom who loved her and Rimudo having Souren and Souren's father, both those parental figures died. When the people closest to you keep getting taken from you, it would make anyone less willing to let someone else get close to them.
I will agree though that Takiko and Rimudo are more mature than Tamahome and Miaka... but that's because they had to learn how to take care of/fend for themselfs at a young age.

Congradulations Manda.
Let's see where do I start... I have the feeling that Rimudo and Takiko will fight, of course. But even in the borthel, Rimudo (from what I saw) seemed to understand how Takiko was feeling when it happened. Tamahome didn't notice Miaka's jealousy until she told him about it. Miaka also bottled up her emotions which caused some of her breakups, like after Nakago "raped" her. She bottled up what she was feeling, and ultimatly decided she couldnt marry Tamahome and ran away. Takiko doesnt seem to run away as much as Miaka ever did. I think Rimudo and Takiko will be stronger because they take care of eachother. Miaka was used to flip-flopping between the real world and the Universe of Four Gods, but so far Takiko has only had that experience once. I think Takiko and Rimudo will have their own problems, like anyone else, but I don't think they'll be a Miaka/Tamahome couple. Takiko is older than Miaka was (I think Rimudo might be younger than Tamahome though, wasn't he 17?) and thus she has more maturity. All of her rejections have kept her in the book, I think Takiko will find peace within the book because she is accepted and loved by people in the book. But thats just me.

I thought I read somewhere that Takiko and Rimudo were both 15... But all the fan sites I've found say that Takiko is actually 17 and Rimudo is 16. Miaka was 15 and Tamahome was 17 when they first met.
But I agree with what you say Ginger. I just find that it's not a real Watase series without atleast one attemptive rape on the heroine, and atleast one breakup between the hero's/reason they can't be together/somthing that temorarily pushes them appart..
But definetly, I find that when it comes down to it, Takiko and Rimudo are a much better couple to read about than Miaka and Tamahome
I was also wondering if anyone has heard anything on when the next chapter is supposed to be released in Japan... I"ve been hearing rummors that the next volume is going to be posponed till november because Yuu Watase is starting work on another manga series for a bit

Takiko is definitely 17 and Rimudo is at least 18. Neither of them are 15. Don't have any clue where you got the idea they were that young x_x I'm definitely double-checking on Rimudo but I know for sure he's older than Takiko.
The age difference in Takiko vs Miaka alone makes a big difference in their maturity. I grew greatly from 15 to 17. And you can see that in Miaka from the first episode to the final OVA.

If I read the side notes right, it seems like Takiko is actually a year older than Rimudo. He is 16, I'm pretty sure of that. And in the way we count age now shes 17, but technically in her time she'd be 19. I'll have to double check that tomorrow. From my source it says that the next Perfect World is comming out this spring. If you can find a decent translator, or read French, here is the site.
From what I heard, she was sick and so she had to postpone the release of the new issue until the Spring.

BTW, is the 3rd vol finally out here in the US yet?

I found the 3rd volume weeks prior to the release date and when I saw it...I jumped up and down...squealed...jumped around the store (tiny Waldenbooks) and scared some poor guys looking at manga.

*ignoring the last post since that has already been talked about*
Okay so Rimudo is 16, that's somewhat depressing. I'm a traditionalist and feel the guys should always be older XD But it doesn't bother me that much, I just stand corrected. This is what happens when you're so far removed from the beginning lol. And old... and lazy... and lame ~_~ My memory dies a little more each day I swear.
I'm happy though with the release of volume three. I'm still pissed at Viz's name changes and lack of consistency but I'm learning to grin and bear it. What makes me happiest is the presentation of Takiko priestess garb that I attempted to cosplay makes its appearance in this volume. With that, I hope to garner more recognition with my next convention trip. Though I might be hoping for a lost cause here I don't know. The release of the third volume has just encouraged me to buy a new wig and revamp my costume ^^ It takes motivation to cosplay and I spend so much at work and school its exhausting @_@
I really haven't bothered reading the third volume just because I've been good about actually reading each chapter as they come out in Perfect World, and it would just make me cry to read anything Viz does.
