Oh... man... as a rule, I always suggest reading books over movies, but with Dumas....

Well, Man in the Iron Mask was an easier read than Three Musketeers, but that's not saying much, and that may have just been because I'd forced my way through Musketeers. I keep meaning to pick up Count of Monte Cristo, but can't bring myself to do it.

The stories are all great. That's why they've been made as movies a hundred and one times. But his way of writing... To paraphrase a completely different author (Alan Dean Foster) and only in the most obscure way related books (Spellsinger series)... He rarely uses one word where twelve can be shoehorned in.

Yeah. They portrayed Porthos horribly. stare Count of Monte Cristo was a good book though. Very...vengeful, but very interesting.

Arrowchan

The Man in the Iron Mask was an OK book - and a horrible movie. gonk

Now, that all depends on which version you're talking about, though none of the ones I've seen are what I'd call spectacular.

The only thing I liked (besides the costumes) of the one with Leo was that it convinced me that maybe he actually could act. (I judge the pretty boy actors on how well they play villains.)
