Szinriia I don't intend to see it.
Ok... having said that I decided I'd give it a chance and went to see it earlier today. I actually really enjoyed the first half, with a few exceptions, and was even prepared to admit it was actually good... then it all went horribly wrong (ie. very Star Wars). The dialogue was dire amongst other things that I won't go into because they will be spoilers. (Although I'm not sure how it would be possible to spoil Star Wars)
My friends who were Star Wars fans and expecting great things are either upset or in denial. I enjoyed it though. It was just... not good.
"From my point of view" mrgreen Classic.

Did you lol as much as I did when Anakin first becomes Darth Vader and screams "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooo". I almost fell out of my chair. I still stand by the fact that the lightsabre fights were great.

Vamp X Did you lol as much as I did when Anakin first becomes Darth Vader and screams "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooo". I almost fell out of my chair. I still stand by the fact that the lightsabre fights were great. All the Cartman style "nuuuuuuuuuuuuuu"s were rather amusing. I really liked the General Grievous fight. He was a pretty cool character. I'd say it was a pretty terrible film but with some cool design work and worth seeing for the comedy value.

*pouts Lucas has never been able to write dialogue. Harisson Ford on the New Hope set You can write this sh*t, George, but you sure can't say it. And his direction goes as far as: I wan't this to happen, now do it. Star Wars has never been a master class in film making, but it has something less definable that makes me love it regardless. You're a biased against it as I am for it. Though if you like Grievous I'd recommend checking out Genndy Tartakovsky's Jedi Jack Clone Wars DVD

I actually tried my best to go and see it with an open mind. I wasn't going to go and see it at all. Then my housemates asked if I wanted to go with them and I said "Oh why not. I'll give it a chance!" which shocked them all. I did enjoy it. And I would see it again at the cinema. Even if I enjoyed it for the wrong reasons at least that can be said for it.
Anyway. I don't buy it. xp THX was an amazing and beautiful film. Lucas can direct... he just lost his way somewhere.

I meant Star Wars as a whole not Episode III which you've already mentioned enjoying.
On the subject of THX, I think it's more the cinematography that shines. Also the talent used is of a higher calibre than used in the first trilogy.
One you might like Robert Duvall have never even seen a Star Wars film, let alone given his opinion on one.

If his direction and writing on THX was that bad, it would have been a considerably worse film.
I'm impressed he managed to avoid the hype! Epecially given his previous involvement with Lucas... or perhaps that was the reason!
I was never biased against any of the films. I watched them, untainted by anyone elses views many times as a child, and again as a teenager, and I just didn't like them. I can understand why people of my parent's generation, who it was exciting and new to, like them. I can appreciate that it is a big thing in the history of film. It just doesn't make it good.
Both of my parents say they are rubbish films but back in the day they were so unique that they were wowed by them. They both saw them in the states before people really knew anything about them here, but they still don't hold on to any fanatic nostalgia for them.
I am not going to evaluate Star Wars as a whole. They are separate films in a series and so I believe they should be evaluated seperately. Particularly seperating the Original trilogy and the prequel trilogy. Since the prequel trilogy was pretty much solely created as an advert for merchandise. xp (I am reminded of spaceballs. whee ) I still have yet to see TPM and AOTC all the way through because I couldn't stand to sit through them on TV or DVD. I admit that by the time the prequel trilogy came out I was biased against them, based on my opinion of the originals, (and Lucasarts beginning to pump out nothing but sub-standard star wars games to make a quick buck. xp ) But most stars wars fans will admit to TPM and AOTC being complete crap anyway.

Hmm
I didn't know any different so the 'wow' factor would be missing, but I do retain a fantastic nostaligia for them. I know I cannot remain objective on the subject & can't really place why I like them so much.
Episode I was as brutaly depressing as I was expecting be, II got slightly better (probably due to the amount of 'Fett' related screen time. Episode III ties the entire mess together without leaving any glaring holes that I noticed.

Fair enough. There are many films from my childhood that I have a great sense of Nostalgia for (Legend, The Neverending Story, The Dark Crystal etc.) that I will continue to enjoy despite whatever flaws they have also.
From the trailers before episode III... I'm having doubts about Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Although it is a Tim Burton film, and stars Johnny Depp who is "From my point of view xd " one of the best actors in Hollywood, I feel I am going to be disappointed. sad
I am looking forward to the Narnia films. sweatdrop
And why the hell did they remake War of the Worlds? neutral From the film version. neutral It looks terrible.

I'm looking foreward to Charlie & The Chocolate Factory. Quote: Burton eschews digital effects, so it took 19 weeks to train the squirrels to crack their nuts on cue The 70s film diverged from the source material so far it had to be renamed before release. The Chronicals Of Narnia series has potential, but is more likely to be a cash cow hopping on the Tolkien band wagon (7 films???) War of the Worlds is doomed twice over: Spielberg & Cruise, way too much ego for a story with no heroic finale. Mostly I am looking foreward to Sin City, great cast, great source material & innovative (to say the least) technique. And a n****e free Batman, though I think they should have given Cillian Murphy the cape when he auditioned for it rather than a consolation bad guy role. (No offense to christian Bale who I rate highly)
