She stomped her way through impatiently, evading the vines that snapped at her heels and running from the encroaching darkness, to reach him with gasping breath. She held up a finger to catch her breath, before finally finishing her sentence. "I wouldn't be." Brilliant. Stamina: 10

"I know, I just--" Felt bad they didn't seem to be getting anywhere, was concerned that constantly throwing them into the fray was a bad idea, starting to think he wasn't meant for any artifact at all.
Thankfully, a hydra stopped him from making it into a pity party.

Dawson mustered every bit of courage he had at the beginning of the journey, leaned down, and very quickly pecked Maebe's cheek.

She could feel nothing but stiffness in her still bandaged leg, even when she put her full weight on it. This pleased her enough to hop, and most of her movement towards the temple was just that; hopping. She tripped on nothing but air when Dawson kissed her on the cheek, and one eyebrow arched impressively as she regarded him for a moment. She could tell that wasn't easy; especially with how much she teased him. For a minute, she realized that she was feeling the strangest sensation she'd ever experienced after receiving a kiss.
She was proud of him.
She hopped again, bouncing up into the air just enough to splatter a messy kiss on the pink of his cheeks, and probably make it worse.
"You're welcome. I like your kisses, but you're still getting my laundry bill."
Was it easy to ignore the fact that they were walking into a giant lion? Yup.

She legitimately walked into it. Not near it, not by it, but Maebe's hopping, distracted body slammed against the paw, startling her enough to get her attention. She summoned Thaw just a little too late, and was swatted away even as she tried to smack her trident against the offending paw. "Do you mind? We were having a god damned afterschool special moment there, you p***k." HP: 45 Damage: 5 Maebe HP: 45 Charge: 1/3 Stamina: 36

Dawson honestly welcomed the distraction of a fight for once. Hitting things made not thinking too much about the return kiss a lot easier.
"Ya upset the lady," he chided the lion, mashing its face against the one on his weapon. "Ya done goofed, son."

The lion of course couldn't possibly know that it was a complete and outrageous lie, but it felt cool to say as he smacked his shield against it some more. Heroic even.

Dawson was legitimately kicking a**, and it was a good look on him. Maebe did not feel particularly inclined to join the fight again, not when it was so much fun watching him slam a shield against the lion's face. That was fun. She should have focused on fighting, but no, no, this was much better.
It was the lion itself that returned her to her senses, knocking her to the ground with a paw. She got up laughing, but sucked in a breath and held it, as an idea came over her.
"Yeah, I am super upset with you." She charged at the lion, driving her trident into it's side. "Like, I don't even know if an apology would be enough. You're just going to have to take his beating, because I am distraught."

As expected, the lion was neither contrite, nor did it falter in its attacks. So Maebe stuck her trident in the toe of one paw, and bit her bottom lip when she heard that particularly painful little yowl.

She shifted left, and aimed her trident at it's neck, hoping for a weak spot as usual-
The trident was knocked out of her hands, and moments later, she was knocked away too. She rolled to the side, harmlessly thrown out of the way, and crawled back up to her feet again. She was not going to give up on this so easily. But she took her time, if only because it meant a nice view.. (she was going to pay for this later, she just knew it.)

The view that was a Dawson that actually had a measure of confidence for once. He slapped the lion's back casually, like it was just a drunk friend that needed to get refocused again, and goaded it back over to his side.
