EVENT 5: You hear a voice and it sounds exactly like someone you are afraid of. They begin to threaten you. The jests get worse the longer you linger in the room. Only you can hear them (though you may not realize it). Please do rp it out. This effect persists as long as you are in this corridor.

The first nonsensical voice had disappeared so Quillan immediately wondered if she'd somehow made it to the exit. But then, another voice had replaced the previous one. It was a the voice of someone Quillan's met on the second day of school. At first, he'd innocently walked up to the boil and asked him a few questions - questions the boil had refused to answer. Then, after a few days, the boil would keep bothering Quillan. Every time he passed him in the hallway, he would ask for money, which Quillan didn't have. And now, that boil was back ... or at least the voice was.

The World of Internship was now over, replaced with the World of Very High, Intimidating Towers.

Serafina levitated into the tower, keeping her feet as far away from the ground as possible. Knowing her luck, there would be something in the water. Or sand. Or floor. Whatever was down there. She glanced over her surroundings, determining she was able to see very little of them. Why was it so dark in this room? She would have thought at least some light would have filtered in from the desert that was right outside...

The kuchisake-onna glanced around, looking for some source of light. She failed to find any.

That was probably why when she started her walk forward, she ended up getting herself totally mixed up. While she managed to move forward, she ended up, at some point, turning herself around and somehow going in the totally wrong direction.

Again, of course, she couldn't really tell where she was going...

Wrath was getting hungry. He wondered if there was possibly any food to be found anywhere in this blasted tower. A nice big haunch of something deliciously roasted would be really nice right about now.

His stomach growling was almost loud enough to drown out the garbling voice.

Quillan felt like he was very close to the exit! He kept running, hating how there were voices chasing after him.

Pickworth made very fast tracks, around this corner, around this one, but his own voice (and Hyde's) didn't seem to be very far away.

And how could you forget how much fun you had?
Nobody asked you, but while he's being delusional...

She was given a reprieve from the voices for a while. She panted and leaned against a wall, taking the oportunity to write some things in her journal.

Quote:
[ Time and Date Unknown

The spire got larger then everyone was sent in. I tried to stay with Kae through the first corridor but got separated. She has my hat. I managed to get out of the corridor, but ended up in another one. This has voices. Or my friends. Or both. I can't tell. But they mock me. They mock me.

I shouldn't have come here. I shouldn't have made friends..

Why did I ever wake up... - H ]

He didn't really get much further before running into another wall.

That was getting old really fast, and so was the voice.

"Shut. Up." He growled, finally losing his patience, and his will to keep quiet.

The voice, miraculously, did as he said.

And then came back, sounding like himself.

He groaned, quite loudly, as he kept going, all while listening to a voice that said. "You should not even be alive right now. Your family has all died, leaving you, just you, the one that nobody would have missed...."

Thankfully, she managed to figure out her directions again, and Serafina set her way forward, this time heading back towards the Exit.

Well, if it was really possible to head towards the Exit in this strange maze, that was what she was doing. Serafina wasn't entirely sure which way was right and which way was left, besides for relying on her own orientation in the room, and she wasn't certain she could totally rely on that...

She passed through the next area with no interference, hoping she was heading towards the exit.

Quillan was so glad to be out of there! He gleefully whispered goodbye to the voices, happy to be rid of them.

The security of sight lasted only until America reached the next corridor, and while she was not blind, it was close enough to be ******** awful and unwelcome. And then she heard the stern, clipped tones beside her.

"America Theodorina Aldrina Georgia Jones, stop slouching. The Lord didn't make you a monkey so don't you dare walk like one."

Even five years later, that voice had her standing straighter, had her answering back in a clear voice, because muttering was the habit of fools who should be quiet in the first place, "Yes, Aunt Prudence."

Shock flooded the girl and she tried to run past whatever this was until the voice snapped, "Do not run. Come back here and walk proper as a young lady should."

[Area 7 => Area 11 (Event 4)]

Serafina had heard a voice before, but it was nothing like the one she was hearing now.

As she levitated through the maze, she recognized this voice. There was a reason why she recognized it, too, and why it was so familiar. It was her. This voice was her. She knew the little intricacies, the tones, the messages underlying--and that was why it hit her when she heard it begin to join the voice she had heard -- and mostly ignored -- previously.

"You're worthless, Serafina. Just worthless. You're ashamed of your very existence as a kuchisake-onna! What worth are you to ghoulkind if you cannot even stand up for what you are? Oh, you're so ashamed of your appearance, trying so hard to doll up so everything but your surgical mask is shining for everyone else to see, so they don't ask, so they just think it is a new trend, not because you think everyone is staring because you can't stop yourself from staring--"

Serafina screamed, holding her hands over her ears.

"No, no, no!"

And yes, it didn't seem to stop the voice. Tears welling up in Serafina's eyes as the insults continued, the frightened ghoul attempted to find where the exit was hiding.

Pickworth stuffed both hands in his ears and picked up the pace.

This did not seem to help at all.

She really, really shouldn't be listening to the voice of a woman dead years ago. Even if she was alive, America Jones was not the girl she used to be. She was stronger now, grown and independent, she didn't need her Aunt.

She went back and walked slowly, as Prudie continued to correct her posture and shut down all signs of attitude. Garbled, raw sounds began to follow her as well, the sort of ragged breathing you'd hear from a severely injured throat and America very firmly insisted to herself that it was no one and nothing she knew. Just another horror in the dark and wasn't she familiar with those?

[Area 11 => Area 13 (Artifact Get!)]

In all her dashing away, Serafina wasn't paying a terrible amount of attention to what little she was able to make out in her environment around her. That was probably why she smashed into something.

Immediately, she jumped away from it, apologizing before she realized that there was no way this was a fellow student. What was it? She reached for it, but her hands found nothing, running through the air and smacking into each other instead of the object she expected to find. That was strange...

"You're probably just hallucinating, Serafina. You're not as smart as you think you are."

There was a small, distressed squeak out of Serafina,

"Leave me alone!"

What it did help with was maze navigating, marginally. He ran so fast, and so far, he completely missed the exit.

He'd been running. He remembered that. Why. Why did he run.

You know. You know you know you know you know.
