For a number of years, Shadowstep's doink knife had vanished. Today, he managed to find it. The retractable plastic blade toy was kind of a worthless thing, but he still had a sort of fondness for it. It made for a nice way of relieving stress without actually damaging any furniture or people. Looking over the old toy, he pushed in the blade a couple of times, then set it aside somewhere where it wouldn't be so easily lost again. He was in so much trouble. Shadowstep had accidentally broken one of Father's things while he was training. Kaitou was going to be furious when he found out. He wasn't sure what was going to happen to him, but it was likely going to be painful. He wasn't sure what he could do about it either. There wasn't any way to fix it. Fear was overriding the young Shadowstep, and he was trying hard to not start crying. Settling down by the lake again, sweetm00n closed her eyes to relax and reflect on the past. She got the same vision as before. Comfortable memories from her childhood. Running around with the petpets, being taken to a pumpkin patch and shown where she had come from, learning the cards. This time though, she could see her mother's face each time. The small signs of disapproval, of tired resignation, and the small perk of hope the first time Indu had a vision. And then of course, after that, the slow loss of that hope as she failed in getting better. She had learned to control them, that was about it. Beyond that they still remained vague, out of reach. If she did have a vision of herself, or her family, she only realized when it happened, leading to a strange sense of deja vu. Indu didn't dream. She didn't spend her life imagining where she wanted to be, or how her dream wedding would look. She practiced. She worked towards. When she played games as a child, they were always deadly serious and earnest, practicing for the day when she would be able to go into those situations for real. She didn't have daydreams or hopes or fantasies. She had plans, and goals. And places she was going to go, and heights she was going to reach. All in a matter of time. [ Rewarding] WhiteCat stared at the lake, wondering what the voices were. Some had hints of sounding like his sisters, one like his brother... He frowned, going up to the water and crouching down. This was... Curious... He reached a pale hand out, fingers flinching before he touched the water. And then the voices were all around him... There was a fair at the primary school, a showcase of student skills. [WhiteCat] and two of his sisters were there, showcasing each of their own skills - Abby was camouflaging herself and Anya was showing off her roar. When the adults got to a young [WhiteCat], before he could even do anything, they tittered and talked about his pale white fur, how it shone and made hiding impossible...
[WhiteCat] watched as he was, again, passed over... And decided that enough was enough. Tucking his wings up, he ducked down when nobody was looking, creeping around to the lights. Shutting them off and thus startling everybody(And causing a couple students to outright glow...), [WhiteCat] located the judges and snuck up on them. Three... Two...
The lights came on as somebody made it to the switches. The judges turned around and let out shocked screams at the proximity of the pale white sphinx, who only let out a little "Boo" in reply. To say the least... They were convinced he COULD scare somebody.
It wasn't the top prize, and he'd not exactly gotten to show off his own skill at riddle telling, but when the family left after the fair, [WhiteCat] was smiling big as he carried a skull ribbon, his reward for effectively scaring them.WhiteCat withdrew from the lake, smiling at the memory. That had been fun... And he wondered... What else did the lake insist on him remembering...? [ Grey] Once again, WhiteCat reached into the water, enveloped by voices. He was just a small cub, staring at the photograph on the mantle, then at the sphinx relaxing in a chair. His grandfather had, once upon a time, been a rich tawny color, a typical Egyptian sphinx, with hair the color of coal. Granted, the photograph was in black and white, not showing off the rich colors of the area around him, but it conveyed how dark his hair had BEEN. Now his coat was, mostly, white, and his hair a silvery grey color. [WhiteCat] admired it really... He went over, climbing in his grandfather's lap and enjoying a hug. Here... He didn't feel so stand-out against tawny coats. Here in his grandfather's arms, greyed with age from tawny to white, [WhiteCat] felt like everybody else.He sat back, biting back a smile. So it wanted to play games of sweet memories, did it...? That was okay... He didn't mind. He just hoped it would show him something less... Sappy next time. [ Wishes] WhiteCat flexed his fingers, before reaching in again. But the voice that greeted him wasn't his brother, or older sisters, or even his parents, but his younger sister. "WhiteCat, look, a star! Make a wish, make a wish!" The young sphinx jumped up and down, pointing at the sky excitedly.
[WhiteCat] looked up, relaxed on a hill as he hugged his little sister, his closest sibling. He closed his eyes, a smile that only came out for her on his face, before he declared, "Done! What did you wish for?"
"I won't tell unless you tell me first!"
"Okay, okay... I wished... That I could be like Dad and Grandpa and Alex... An Egyptian sphinx, and in normal colors..."
His sister stared up at him, frowning, then shook her head. "That's stupid!" She hugged her brother. "I wished I could be like YOU! Unique in a group that looks the same!" She made a face, sticking her tongue out. "I don't wanna look like Abby and Anya, I wanna be lucy-sissy like you!"WhiteCat jerked back from the lake, a frown on his face. That was... He... He didn't want a memory like that. He'd have to come back tomorrow, though... He left the lake, hugging himself. Indu had learned from an early age that it was important to be smart. As a girl, as a woman, as a reaper, you had to be on the ball, all the time. If you weren't, you had to learn to fake it. Her father was always a bit more lax about this, encouraging questions. Her mother expected her to know the answers already. So she would learn from her father, to impress her mother. Eventually though, she started to feel ashamed, sneaking around behind one parent's back. She tried to study on her own, but it bored her to no end. So Indu learned how to fake it, to pretend she knew exactly what was going on even if she didn't have a clue. She had never been good at accepting when things were gone for good. In fact, she completely rejected the idea that anything could be taken from her permanently from an early age. Her parents would never grow too old, her friends would never move on or part ways and pets would never perish. Her parents did whatever they could to shield their sensitive daughter from pain, whether it was telling her that her departed friends would "be back someday" or replacing lost pets with replicas so she wouldn't suspect. It wasn't until she started believing in enchanted objects that her emotions could properly handle the everyday losses and detachments in life.
When her father was away for long periods he would leave her his old watch as a promise that he would come back to her. More than a promise, she had grown to believe sentimental objects could be imbued with the "essence" of creature and with that essence in hand they could never truly be parted, no matter what. It is why to this day she trades tokens with friends and anyone she sees as special to her, even if they aren't going anywhere-- just for that extra insurance that if any thing DID happen, she would always have a piece of them so they could never truly be lost.

Kressida loved to learn, and loved the accomplished feeling of being "smart". It didn't come easy though. She was always the first person to hit the books and the last person to leave the library. Long before Amity had accepted her and her world was opened to wide variety of talents and subjects offered within it's walls, she found it pertinent to take her education in her own hands; learning from her elders neighbors and anyone who would tolerate her insistent questioning of why? to the universe. Books are great, but particularly in her early childhood days she took great joy in receiving the special attentions of others who would tell her stories of the ages or how to deep-dive, make shell jewelry, any and everything there was to learn about her world. Her parents had always shown such great pride for her long before she had proven to be the student she is today, and their pride was like a promise from an early age that no matter what she wanted to do in life, she would great. And so she felt she truly was.

"If wishes were horses, beggars would ride." She couldn't remember who told her that but she knew what it meant. Wishing for something was a waste of time, something you do when you don't want to or cant face reality or have the strength to make a change in your life. But she couldn't disagree with the sentiment more. Wishes are so important, at every stage in life, she thought. As a child the world is full of infinite possibility, and the thought that wishes could come true would never be more real than when you are young. Taking away ones ability to wish for something better is like taking away a child's sense of wonder, or grown ups hope-- it does the exact opposite of turning a beggar into an achiever, it turns a dreamer into drone, a husk. She would do all she could to keep wishes alive, to keep the twinkle in her eye and make others feel that no matter what happens there's always the chance that things could get a lot better. She had to believe that, just to keep on living.

She'd decided not to come back, but there was something about the place that kept drawing her back.
"I don't. I.. don't."
She'd slapped him, shoved him out the door, maybe even told him she never wanted to see him again, she couldn't even remember. Her heart hurt more than it ever had before, but there wasn't anything else she could have done then- nothing but hide her feelings, lock them up and bury the box.

[17. Empty] (2/3)
There were unfortunate times where wandering along the hallways of Amityville would somehow bring the ghoul to the Haunted House. That building was a particular place of bad memories, and the ghoul dreaded entering it each time to find her way back out. Most times though, the rooms would be empty, which she very much preferred them to be. No hunters, no students, no horsemen. No surprises. No worries.
She didn't forget, however, how she had first entered the house with a team. Having company was comforting in some ways, but her experiences pushed her to feel the other way. The fewer of them there were, the fewer victims there would be. No, she'd rather this place always remain empty.

[2/3 - Kindness]
Fresh-baked cookies every Sunday- that was their tradition, and she would always help out by licking the spoon clean. Grandma was the only one that really understood, that never scolded her, or told her to stop lying and telling tales. She closed her eyes, sitting by the water's edge, and for a brief moment she could hear that gentle voice again--
be brave, my little raindrop. I am always with you.
