Lost in the chaos once the elephant was on the move, Amali struggled to keep up in the mud- and resented that he couldn't seem to find good footing, he was a swamp lion. But eventually he did catch up and just as everybody was working to throw the beast off balance, he lunged forward to lend a paw himself.

After resting, she felt able to move, though not quite as fast. Mura ran toward the elephant with all her force, ready to do what she could to help the others. They had worked so hard together to bring down the beast. She slipped through the mud as she mad her way through. When she was close enough she slammed herself into the elephant.

Margulis hardly needed provocation to throw herself at the beast's right side, gritting her teeth hard as she charged toward him and launched herself into the air off one of the fallen trees. She landed claws first against his right side, keeping one eye on the beast's feet in case they'd need to bail out when it came down.

Shari snarled through a mouthful of elephant flesh when the bull tried to grab her. He was unable to get her off then but when he began to buck she leapt free and backed off. Once An yelled to hit the elephant on the right she quickly rushed at the bull and leapt to hit in right in the stomach on his right side with her shoulder.

Pam shook his head and snarled as he followed after the lions who were now aiming for the elephant’s right side. This time, he finally managed to dodge the beast’s trunk and make his move. He lunged at the elephant, knowing his attack would probably hurt the two of them equally considering Pam’s current state.

Lani was high in drive now. Whatever measly fight instincts she had kicked in, and she was ready to fight this beast. To help everyone else bring it down. To save the next poor person that might have stumbled across the angry elephant’s path. Lani barked, her teeth clicking with the force, and sprang up against the monster’s side. Her weight was slight, but she held on, trying to dig her teeth into the animal’s thick hide.

Seeing that the animal was nearly felled, Tahir crept out from the back of the group. He shook his nervousness off and padded cautiously toward the hulking menace, ears perked and tail jiggling between his legs. He wanted no part in the attack; to chance injury or death. But the lions had nearly toppled the thing over… and it was difficult for an elephant to rise once it had fallen. Tahir steeled himself, eying an opening amongst the writhing, attack bodies, and jumped. He bashed his shoulder into the animals side and whipped his head around, biting wildly for something to hold onto.

The combined weight of all the attackers finally took its toll. The elephant gave a snarling cry and fell to its side. The mud absorbed a lot of the impact, but it was clear that such a large beast falling was not without some pain on his part. He thrashed a few times, his trunk snaking out to try and grab anyone to take down with him. But with everyone at his side, there was nothing but shadows to grab at.

Crushed in the mud the monster took a few gasping breaths made raw by the sticky mire all around them. Still stinging from his blow, Veru approached slowly. He kept himself just out of reach of the swinging trunk and still gleaming tusk. "You had to know this wouldn't go on forever," the white lion said.

For the first time, the monster spoke. He was still thrashing, but his left side seemed irreparably damaged by the fall. "Come closer so I can crush the life out of you," the beast oozed in a low baritone. Although he was covered in muck and blood, flecks of the old monkey's handprints still stained his thick skin. Still warning, even as the beast was felled.

"None of these people were responsible for whatever happened to you!" An said, sidling along the edge of the muck.

The elephant made a choked laugh, before suddenly coming alive again in one final burst of energy. He half stood on his crushed side, thrashing out his trunk. This time, he connected with something: An. With something in his grasp he tightened fast, trying to squeeze the life out of her.

Winded and a bit put off by the sudden fall and the apparent pain and vulnerability of the beast, Amali hesitated after regaining his footing after the elephant hit the ground. He listened as Veru approached and spoke to it-- he barely had time to process that even at the end of this fight, the elephant was vicious and determined, and suddenly it had reached out and grabbed An.

His reaction was quick and instinctive, he didn't have time to think about what exactly he was doing- he simply aimed for the elephant's neck and clamped down as hard as he could from whatever angle he managed to get a hold from. If he couldn't get the spine, he hoped for an artery.

As quickly as it had started, it was over, it seemed. Saiorse lifted herself from the mud and the muck. There was no way that the elephant would survive the wound delt by another just seconds before. Saiorse limped over, snarling and smiling all the same, pleased to see the beast die. "You've gotten what you deserved, stupid beast." The lioness spat. He would have no pity from her.

"An!" The word burst from Endesha as the elephant reached out with its trunk and grabbed her. And suddenly the strong, an female looked very small and the world ground to a horrifying halt. Her mind whirred and in that moment of panic came a flash of chestnut brown.

Her brother!

And then his name was being cried out, too, afraid that she might lose him, too.

But wait! He had the elephant tight in his jaws and in that moment she realised he had done it. Her brother; the Elephant Slayer! That would be some story to tell when he finally returned to the swamplands.

Between the mud and the elephant's trunk, Ndege never managed to land a blow until after the elephant had gone down. She leapt on the fallen elephant, hoping to help keep it pinned, but the elephant still had some fight left. She cried out when the elephant grabbed An, but she was standing on elephant's flank and there was nothing soft for her to grab.

Bluu had sat out the battle, knowing that if a blow of the elephant's trunk could injure a lion, it ran a sound risk of killing her. And she was no fighter, no hero - she had only come along on the expedition so that she might understand the nature of the beast. It was a mad elephant and he was dead. She ran her eyes over the gathered monster-hunters, lingering the longest over Amali so that she could memorize his features for later.

Ed'Garde slunk back to the trees, liberally covered in mud. The elephant was dead, his business here was done.

Lani saw Amali lunge for the elephant’s throat from the corner of her eye. She jerked back, releasing her grip on the beast’s hide, and dropped down to the earth. Her eyes were wide, her heart in her throat. This wasn’t why she’d come here. This wasn’t why she helped pull the beast down. She’d thought, perhaps, eventually, when the elephant was subdued they might be able to reason with it.

Not this. Never this.

“No!” she cried, bounding toward Amali. Her bravery, it seemed, hadn’t left her just yet,” Haven’t enough animals died here?” She glanced around at the others, watching. So far it seemed those who had spoken up wanted the elephant to die.

The beast had done damage. Killed many. But they’d all seen with their own eyes what someone, something, had done to it.

“Isn’t there something else?” Anything else, they could do?

Mura stood away from the elephant as she watch the final blow. It had to die, she reminded herself. The deaths it caused and it would have killed them as well. He would continue on that road, killing anything that came near it. His death was a needed one. There was no hope for saving him, but she still wished there was something else they could do. With her eyes close and her head bowed, she spoke a quiet prayer to the gods, asking for forgives of the beast and hoping it's soul would be purified in the after life. It was the only thing she could do for him.

Once she was done praying she went over to check on the cheetah to see how she was doing. It would be terrible if more lives were lost today. They had all suffered enough.

His position left Spaki in a very unfortunate place as the elephant fell. He was exhausted, holding on had been harder with such a giant beast jumping around, and nothing to support his grip besides his neck and one front leg. When the others finally managed to know it down, he rather tiredly flopped off, just in time not to get stuck beneath the elephant.

He didn't bother getting to a safe distance, standing behind the elephants back he was relatively safe. Moto'spaki rolled his shoulders, trying to get his body to feel more normal as he listened to the exchange between Veru and the elephant, feeling surprisingly sad once he heard it talk.

When it grabbed An, but wouldn't have been able to do much even if Amali hadn't gotten there first, his jaw felt extremely weak. Spaki ended up with his forelegs on the elephant's shoulder and side as if it were a table, looking down at the brown male as he bit down. He could feel beneath him as the giant animal was growing weaker and weaker, quickly. It was done.

He lowered his ears slightly as one of the wild dogs came over, looking distressed at Amali's action. "...It needs to be done." Moto'spaki said, looking thoughtfully down at what was between his paws. The elephant was blind with rage and hatred, there was nothing they could do. It wouldn't listen to them.

Shari stepped away after Amali made the killing blow. She glanced over to Lani who was very upset with Amali's actions. "She did well and saved another life from being killed." Shari looked down at the lifeless body of the elephant and nodded. "It had to be done. That's what we came here for in the first place."
