Lumine was taken somewhat by surprise by Rubuke's reaction. Firstly, she couldn't believe the Kenkaku child believed her! Secondly, she didn't think she would sound so disappointed either. While Rubuke talked, Lumine thought for a moment, looking back to the days spent with Master Kazuko... Had she ever really stopped to learn anything? Master Kazuko tried to teach her, but admittedly, Lumine had a hard time paying attention, and was always busier trying to slack off. It made her sad to realize all that time wasted, all that time she wished to have back with Master Kazuko.

I'm sorry.

"Innocent?" Lumine asked, sounding slightly miffed, but also amused. "Is that a roundabout way of saying I'm immature? ...But, thanks." The ex-Celestial found Rubuke's new posture also amusing, and she couldn't help but laugh when Rubuke tightened the fold of her arms. "Really? What's wrong, don't like compliment? But why would I be the first? I mean, you're Maemi's sister! And a member of a royal family! Hell, you're probably next to represent the Kenkaku with the Elite Guard, aren't you? People must think pretty high of you, am I right?" Lumine shifted her body, moving to kneel on the couch and drape her arms over the armrest in a somewhat prone position. She then rested her chin upon the armrest as well, fixing her gaze on the Tengu. "You train hard and work hard, just as much if not more than Maemi did. That's gotta be worth praise!"

Lumine grinned broadly with childish mischief. "And if that's not the case, then maybe you should stop being a stuck-up, snobby a**!"
PostPosted: Sun Apr 14, 2013 6:17 pm

"No, I mean innocent," Rubuke rubbed the back of her,"Its hard to tell to explain it.. but, ... uhm... forget about it." The tengu grumbled at being unable to tell Lumine what she meant. "I will try to figure it out in a while," Rubuke responded.

"Well that's why! I am still not good enough to match my father's demands, just like Maemi wasn't. I think he just got grouchy after Samuro ended up crippled. Brr..I am a bit nervous about having to use the nodachi now. of course, I need to return with it in hand, which I why I came back...I need a relic weapon..." Her thoughts returned to the Rouki blades but she sighed. "I don't think anyone would think highly of me. There is no reason for that!"

"Hey... be nice!"

"Ah, I was just joking... Sorry."

Lumine's smile faded until it was very soft. She remained there on the couch, half laying, half kneeling. Rubuke's mention of Maemi's Nodachi reminded her yet again of its absence. Could it still be there on the mountain's peak? ...And was her body still there, too..? She forced that thought into the furthest corner of her mind.

"I-- ... Sorry... Rubuke." She sank her chin a little more into the armrest, her sight drifting. "...I'm really, really sorry that I took it. I was upset, a-and lonely... and stupid... I needed something to cling to. Something to keep Maemi's memory alive... She put her e-entire... life... behind that sword." She swallowed, her mouth had become dry. "But... she's sleeping now, so I wanted to carry that burden for her. So she could rest finally." Lumine breathed in, hiding the urge to let out a small sob, and only sighed instead.

"...I'd give it back to you if I could, so you could go home triumphant... But I'm afraid I've lost it. I took it with me when Hanari and I went to the mountain, before... Well, you know. I don't know what happened to it after that. ...Who knows, that Shinigami might have even made off with it..."
PostPosted: Mon Apr 15, 2013 9:14 pm

"...You... Lost... .... it-...?"

Rubuke blinked dumbfoundedly, her smile waning and dying into a perplexed empty expression as it sunk into her mind. She sort of slid off the armrest as Lumine Continued to speak, not visibly flinching when her wings pressed against the backrest of the couch. Her wings did spasm in complaint, but they were still as the tengu stared at nothing.

After a moment, the gray and black winged tengu leaned forward, resting her elbow on her knees and grabbing her head and knitting her hands into her hair,"How.... How will I explain this to my father?! He won't be able to ever look at my face! ... The Family... the family name is done--..." Her shoulders were shaking, out of nerves, out of fear. "I shouldn't have told Father to put the sword in the shrine for mourning period, I shouldn't have insisted he leave it there--." Rubuke seemed to be sobbing at this point. "If I had just taken it the day she died-!"

"Now... Now the Kenkaku have nothing! No Swordsmen, no courtiers, no nothing! Not even passage into the Elite guardsmen...." Rubuke openly sobbed now, her small frame shivering and she sniffled,"Father is never going to acknowledge me now--!"

A cold chill ran through Lumine's body as she witnessed the Kenkaku child break down, one almost as cold as the air past the Sanzu. She shifted from her lounged position to step down from the couch, though one knee remained knelt on the seat.

"H-...Hey! Rubuke, don't you think you're overreacting a bit?" Those words sounded stupid even to her. "Was that sword really that much of a keystone to your family? You can't just be done with, can you..?" Lumine shook her head, then pushed herself to her still slightly unstable feet. She walked over to the couch Rubuke sat on, and knelt before the sobbing girl.

"Rubuke, listen! It's not like it's lost lost. It should still be somewhere on the mountain, right? Where I di-- ...where I left it. Hanari and I went to the hot springs, near the mountain's peak. Not many people know of that spot, so it should still be there!" She put her hand on Rubuke's shoulder, trying to elicit a response. "We can go get it! And then, you can go home with it, and bring it to your father! ...It's not like I'll ever be able to wield it again, and I know Maemi would believe it was important. She... she wouldn't want you to have to bear it, but she would follow tradition."
PostPosted: Tue Apr 16, 2013 3:44 pm

Rubuke continued to sniffle and sob as Lumine tried to comfort her. It wasn't until the celestial put her hand on her that the girl looked up slightly at the dying girl. "It's still up there...?" she almost stood but she only shifted as her wings weighted her down, once more tearing in helplessness.

Her eyes, round and red looked at Lumine as if asking for an answer,"I... I can't fly. I can't go back home like this because I can't find my way back... I can't go home much less to that place." She wiped at her eyes with the heel of her palm, like any lost child would,"I can't move through the woods by foot like Maemi did. I am stranded here until my wings heal." The tengu sobbed a few times and tried to calm down as she looked at Lumine, still looking for that little bit of guidance,"If the blade isn't returned, then we will lose all credibility as guardsmen; If we can't keep our legacy safe, why would we be trusted with the well being of our kin...?"

Her words sounded repeated, as if she had heard someone say them before her. At last able to quiet down she explained,"The relic weapons were crafted once by the very first tengu to make their home here. They are the oldest things in the village, pretty much, and they stand for the strength and power of the guarding clans... No one had ever lost their weapons before... Except for the Imutou clan that was usurped by the first Kaninus..... " Rubuke sighed, her one good wing limping into the couch,"I told my father I'd return with the nodachi and that he'd see I was a good guardswoman, just like Maemi and Samuro had been. If I return to tell him the blade is lost, up somewhere in the mountain.... our family won't live it down--" Her voice wavered again, but she tried to remain collected this time.

The Kenkaku child was distressed and , in her state, looked like nothing more than a lost and confused child fearing their parents reprisal.

"That's enough!" Lumine stood in front of Rubuke. "Where's your stubbornness, huh? What happened to the pain in the a** that wouldn't let me and Maemi be?!" She clenched her fists. "Maemi can punish me later, but for now--!" She raised her hand, and smacked Rubuke, hard enough that it even stung her own hand.

Lumine let out a breath that was half a sigh, falling to her knees once again before Rubuke. She reached out to put both hands on the Tengu's shoulders, grasping firmly and staring directly into her eyes, even if Rubuke wouldn't meet her gaze. "So what if you can't fly, or if you don't know the way? You can see the mountain from anywhere in Gensokyo, except the Underground! So point yourself towards it an GO!" Her grip tightened on Rubuke's shoulders. "If you've got the energy to cry, then you can do it while you walk! The Rubuke I know wouldn't let anything stop her from achieving a goal, especially if it was her honor on the line!!"

The ex-Celestial relaxed her grip, eventually releasing the Tengu. She sat for a moment, then wrapped her arms around Rubuke's shoulders, pulling her into a hug with her chin rested on her shoulder. "...I'll go with you, if you want; even if the trip might kill me. I don't even know why I'm here again, so I might as well do something useful with my time!"

The smack was enough to make her cheek throb a bit. Rubuke blinked at the impact, bringing a hand to her face, staring at Lumine in some sort of shock. She still bore that sort of broken look but she seemed to pay attention to what Lumine had to say.

More shocking than the hit was the hug. Having grown in an aristocratic home, Rubuke wasn't used to displays of affection. Maemi had been the only one to hug her and pet her hair often, but with the death of the older Kenkaku, thar sort of connection had died. Rubuke melted into Lumine's hug, having missed that affection. She was speechless for a little while, but she wrapped her arms around Lumine and hid her face into the ex-celestial's shoulder, clinging for dear life. A few moments passed and Rubuke refused to let go.

"... You are right, I really have no point in crying...." she finally croaked,"But I can't let you come with me. Lumine, aren't you here to spend time with your family? I will leave when they come back, really, that way you guys can be together." Part of her didn't want to cut the hug,"Maemi wouldn't forgive me if I took you on a walk you'd never finish, y'know? Once Michiko and Ochiba return... I'll just leave."

"It's not like I fit in here anyway, right?" Rubuke chuckled wanly on Lumine's shoulder,"Some as much of a pain in the a** as I am deserves to be with the other asses: My family."

"Well... You're kinda my family, too." Lumine said softly, using one hand to idly rub Rubuke's back. "I mean... you're Maemi's sister. It's not like I can deny that relation... so that makes you my sister-in-law!" She never thought the Tengu could be so... innocent, and childish. Not in the way of her attitude, no; but rather the inner child deep within, the one that still beckons for a mother's embrace, the voice that needs guidance, reassurance... and love.

"Maemi wouldn't forgive you if you went out and did something stupid on your own, either. You're still wounded too, and if anything happened to you... then what? The Kenkaku name really would be extinguished." Lumine shook her head, the squeezed Rubuke tightly. "More importantly, Maemi would be sad to see her sister so soon. Besides, who cares if you fit in or not? I don't see any of us pushing you to leave... So stay as long as you like. Maybe after a couple days we'll feel better, and we'll be able to make that trip together!"

Lumine could feel how rigid Rubuke had become, clinging to her body so tightly. She couldn't have known how much the Tengu needed this affection. Lumine decided not to break the hug, and instead stayed still for her, simple holding on and letting Rubuke have her fill. It was the least she could do for Maemi's sister.

"Hey... just think what Maemi would say of she saw us like this." Lumine laughed a little, patting Rubuke's back lightly. "I think she'd make fun of us... but on the inside, I think she'd be smiling, don't you? She always wanted us to get along... and look at us now!"
PostPosted: Sat Apr 20, 2013 9:07 pm

"Sister-in-law?" Rubuke asked tilting her head towards Lumine,"Ah you are right. Is it sad if I said you are probably my favorite family? Maybe just under Samuro when he isn't a depressed jerk." With Lumine's pats, the Kenkaku Child began to relax her grip on the ex-celestial, though she was still melted by the affection.

"Thank you for that, Lumine. I guess you are right. When we both feel better, we will make the trip, okay? Even if I have to fly you there to make sure you don't get tired!" Rubuke pulled back at that, her hands on Lumine's shoulder as she smiled,"That way you get to see the mountain , and from it's tip, everything in Genso--!"

There was a door knock. Rubuke turned to the door startled. Aside from the knock that melted in the silence as if it were a trick of a prankster spirit, there was nothing resounding, "Did you... hear them talk?"

Instinctually, Rubuke stood, reached for one of the Rouki blades and stalked to the window. While a hand held the blade pointed down, she leaned into the wall to peer through a tiny space between the drapes and window. "It's the shinigami...."

The Kenkaku's eyes seemed to bulge at something,"She is helping Michiko walk apparently--! "

Lumine smiled back to Rubuke, and as she pulled away, let her hands fall to the Tengu's sides. The knock at the door startled her as much as it had Rubuke, and she responded in kind, turning towards the door as well.

"Who could it be?" Lumine asked, climbing to her feet as Rubuke approached the window, one of Michiko's blade in ha--wait. Michiko had forgotten her weapons? That was certainly unlike Seijin's child, to forget something so important... they must have really been worried for her.

Although worried herself, Lumine pushed that thought aside and took up the second blade, holding it tight in one hand. Her heart skipped a beat when Rubuke announced who was at the door, and what that who had in tow. "Hanari... Michiko!!" Without a second thought, Lumine ran towards the door and pried it open - had she her original strength, she might have torn it off the hinges!

"What happened?! Michiko!" Jumping to conclusions, Lumine pointed the blade's tip at Hanari. "If you hurt her, I'll--!"
PostPosted: Mon Apr 22, 2013 6:30 pm

"No,no,no! Lumine---Wait LUMINE?!" Hanari froze, staring in disbelief, with a gapping mouth dumbly making motions as if she were to say something. It wasn't till Michiko lifted her head that she waved a hand in front of her.

"Lumine, she didn't do anything-" Michiko said wearily. The wolf seemed a bit scratched up, other than the heavy cut she had from the rakes of claws on her left leg, it could be assumed she just fell and tripped down a sort of mountain side."Ochiba and I stepped into some hostile territory. They had us fried..."
Ochiba hoped up with a cracked lens. Her bunny ears looked dirtied, and her clothes a bit roughed up."They got us by surprise, Hanari saved us, she just poofed us out of there."
"Lumine....?"
"Your boss brought her back, Shinigami, for a short time."
"Yeah," Rubuke came to Lumine's side just now,"At least someone in court knows morals."

The blade was still in her hand, although she now lowered it. Lumine looked back and forth between Hanari and Michiko, and then to Ochiba, either ignoring the Shinigami's surprised reaction completely, or simply not noticing it; either way, Lumine remained silent, and as Rubuke approached beside her, she took a step back, somewhat hiding behind the Tengu's shoulder with her gaze falling to inspect the injuries her friends had suffered. Michiko looked worst for wear, sporting a series of slash marks from a beast of some sort across her leg. It would take time to heal, but heal she would. Ochiba looked pretty roughed up too, but thankfully didn't suffer as much as her wolven companion. It seemed certain the Shinigami had saved them...

"Michiko... Ochiba... You idiots. You shouldn't have run out like that..." Her voice was low and soft, and she refused to meet anyone's eyes.

"...H...Hanari... I... ..." Lumine shuffled uncomfortably behind Rubuke. "...Th-Thank you... for keeping an eye on them... and saving them..."
PostPosted: Wed Apr 24, 2013 7:26 pm

"we left in a hurry and for nothing. The doctor had absolutely nothing," Michiko muttered in a small growl, "Thankfully, Hanari happened about and was there to save us. We really couldn't have made it through without her."

Rubuke stretched her wing a bit, pretending to be unaware of how she covered Lumine a bit more as the ex-celestial backed up behind her. "Seems you all ran with some luck this once, here, I will help Michiko back inside...." She moved forward and took the wolf from the shinigami, easing her over her shoulder and supporting her weight before leading her back inside.

Hanari nodded at Lumine, watching the two tengu disappear indoors and Ochiba moving to attack to Lumine's shirt, grabbing a fold to hold onto. "Ah.... Not a problem... I just happened upon them... oh!" Reaching to her chest she undid a buckle, releasing an item that hanged on her back. Reaching around she pulled the Kenkaku Nodachi. "...I.. picked this up... I don't have my scythe, but I rather not carry something that does not belong to me,...Lumine."

Lumine happily greeted her small rabbit friend, patting Ochiba's head lovingly as she buried into her shirt. She didn't want to look up. She felt a strange mixture of feelings, shame, anger, anxiety... even staring at the Shinigami's legs seemed like a hardship.

It wasn't until Hanari presented the sought-after Nodachi that Lumine finally raised her head, looking to her with eyes wide. "The Nodachi..!" If Ochiba hadn't been in the way, she might have lunged to hug the Shinigami.

But she was in the way, and perhaps that was for the best. Lumine calmly reached out to claim the sword, wrapping her fingers around the sheath and gripping tightly. "... It's not really mine, you know... it's yours--!" She paused, and thought for a moment... then took the Nodachi and held it to her chest. "...It belongs to... your sister." She smiled to Hanari, warmly. "Thank you... Hanari. With this, Rubuke and her family can uphold their honor."

"Ochiba, can you take this to Rubuke? I think she'd like to see it..." With a hand to the side of the rabbit's head, Lumine held the sword to her, hoping she would take it. She nodded slightly, hoping Ochiba would understand that she wanted a moment alone with Hanari...
