There was a vague recollection of vines.. Or something. Long and twisting and attacking everyone around them, though quite quickly dispatched. Or so she thought. Everything from that point on was a great black blur, and it was only in the last few moment things had begun to register again. Like the floor for one, cold and dusty, quite possibly thick with exploded kitten glitter, and rather more comfortable then one might assume.

In her current position it was clear to the ghoul, even in her half unconscious state, that this was not how she had landed. One arm extended over her head at an odd angle as if someone had made a bid to drag her, or she, in her oblivion, had had the foresight to hang onto someone that was no longer there. She remembered pale fur, a long tail, and rather delicious looking lips.. Natalia...

Dwelling upon the subject was immediately cut off though as something collided with her side and went stumbling over her. What had begun a gradual process in waking up was not a rather abrupt one, and she blinked drowsily at the finger that was extending out to poke her shoulder, then towards the face it belonged to. Recognition clicking after a slow moment or two. ".. Puppy.. " she mumbled, reaching out to catch his hand. "Than?" What the jack was going on? A quick glance around them showed they were very much alone in their little section of hallway. Her temporary group gone.

"Hey puppy," the greeting was a purred thing, interrupted by a yawn and she used that grip on his hand to drag him closer. Arms and wings curling around him as she made herself, and him, a little more comfortable on the floor.

...TTATT!!!!

"MERRY!!!! YOU ARE NOT DEADS!" There was a rather substantial thump, with glitter, dust and cobwebs disrupted from their calm piles on the floor and thrown into the air with the force of the hound's exuberant tail-wagging, spurred solely on by the sheer relief of seeing a friendly, familiar face, coupled in tandem with the fact that she was not actually dead, but instead taking a seemingly impromptu nap in this conveniently darkened area. Not the healthiest place to slumber in the pup's personal opinion, nor the cleanest, as he now noted that there was dust and glitter now liberally attached to both his skin, garments and fur. Ah well, he'd have to give himself a good shake later, or mayhap it could be used as a distraction later on, he could wave his arms and dust and sparkles would come billowing forth in a cloud to astonish potential pursuers!

Oh yes. He was so very clever!

Drawn in by the chimera lass, his good eye widened, as he found himself all snuggled up against the ghoul's side. "Is Than!" He chortled softly, a smile then slowly, tentatively creeping onto the smaller monster's features, tail-tip still flicking to and fro just out from under the great canopy of multi-colored feathers. "What is Merry doings on this messymess floorthing?" D: Had she fallen? Had someone knocked her down? WAS HE GOING TO HAVE TO BITE SOMEONE FOR HER!?

Because he would bite them. 8[ And they would be very very unbelievably sorry.

Gaze flickering to the floor, he turned to it for explanation. "Did yous see who did it?" He inquired, tapping it with one claw and then waiting for it to proffer forth the information he was now solemnly requiring of it.

Clearly the floor was also napping. Shame on it.

Mind full of the crooked horns and the string of beads dangling from them the chimera pressed her face into the warm silk at the back of the younger boil's head as another yawn rolled between painted lips. What in Jack's name had knocked her out? Vines.. No they hadn't touched her, and she'd seen them vanquished, and then.. and then. Nothing. She frowned, pale arms dragging the other monster in tighter against her chest. Long legs folding to tuck against that gently twitching tail.

"No, not dead in the least," she assured him, chuckling softly as her cheek dragged along that high ponytail, quite possibly marking the small pup as her own. He was a funny little thing. Adorable, easily read, not so easily understood. "You know, I was just wondering that myself."

Tail coiling loosely along his hip, the ghoul lifted her head to stare down the length of the hall before glancing back down at him as he prodded at the glitter strewn floor. "I don't recall what exactly caused this sudden and immediate appreciation of the floor," she mused softly, chuckling. "But I don't think I'm hurt."

Well that was an intense relief.

Momentarily distracted from his interrogation of the tight-lipped floorspace, the smaller individual tilted his head to try to view the ghoul behind him, not a particular comfortable crane of the neck, what with having only one good eye to fixate on Merry. "Goods! Than is not so very likely sure that he would have been able to make Merry magically not-dead." Lower lip protruding in a pout, he reached up one finger and gently brushed the pad of it over one of those eye-catching feathers. Possessed of rather violent wing-envy for a moment, he heaved another whuffling sigh. "Maybe if ThanThan had magic wings tho..." He could do anything if he had a pair of shiny sparkly pretty feathery wings! *O* Right? Perhaps not, but all the same, they would have been a nice accoutrement. Lucky Merry.

Mind routed back to the conversation at hand, he scrunched his nose up. "Dids not see the things that made the floor-sleepies? D: Such naughty tricksterly floor-sleepies..." He murmured, brows furrowing in deep thought as he tried to fathom what sort of enemies might have done such a thing to the lovely Merry. "Shoulds have better manners." Harrumphing his displeasure, he wiggled slightly, not at all minding the nearness of the ghoul. She was comfy-close, and the pup was soaking the attention up like a sponge.

"Perhapslike..." He mused, "We will be safes on the floor, and the floor-sleepies did not want Merry-Merry to be walking in their glitter-sparkles..." Glitter that he was now beginning to trace patterns in, re-situating once more so that he could still be in the safe Merry-fort, whilst giving him a broader range of motion. The magic of the bright feathers would keep the evil floor-sleepies from unleashing their dastardly plan. Naturally.

Getting to his feet, Fuaire glanced over at the Baku after she had addressed him. His glassy eyes glanced over her face; his own expression was set in an uninterested stare. The characteristic anger subsided inside his container as this served as a distraction for him.

"Huh? Yeah, whatever."

While his response might have seemed rather gentle in Frez Drah terms, he was simply distracted once again, this time by the state of his patchwork coat. It had soaked in a large amount of bunny dust and flower goo. As a result, it continued to smell incredibly strongly of that sickly sweet aroma that had contributed to their previous unconsciousness. Fuaire grimaced as he handled it; it was damp, sticky and shimmered with good feelings. A part of him wanted to remove it and shred it to pieces; however, he kept it about his shoulders, begrudgingly agreeing to hold on to it and see if it could be fixed after the ordeal was over.

From bright pink to blinding bright yellow, Damien felt like he needed to shield his eyes which ironically, were as bright as the walls were, except in a more neutral shade of green. But it still hurt his eyes to look around as he decided to walk around with his eyes shut. "I'm not looking, I'm not looking, too bright." he groaned out before bumping into the wall with a quiet "oof".

Well , not even five seconds in and his idea of walking around with his eyes closed already seemed like a bad one as he gave up and looked at the birds flying overhead. his tail twitched at the sight of other living creatures in the room, shocked at how they didn't seem to mind their bright surroundings. The hound wanted to go see them up close and personal, they were as chatty as the avian boil behind them known as Ulmuka, but luckily, much more easier to deal with.

The hound however was impressed with the retort that Faint came back with, his smile never faltered from his face. "I got nothing to hide." he said effortlessly as he jumped up to try and bat at one of the birds overhead with his arms. The bird just flinched and flew away to a safer perch away from the fur eared duo.

"Wonder where they got the birds from." he mused out loud without realizing it as they went on their stroll again. 'What do you think?" he went to ask Faint and craned his neck around to face Ulmuka and Vero and their company. "How about you guys?"

On the move again, Edel found herself presented with two hands – one from Ulmuka and the other from Vero, both of which she took graciously (despite the fact that all this hand-holding would soon form a long chain across the hallway). They were entering another section of the hallway, walls decorated with grotesque murals and the air filled with the sounds of happiness. Edel was slightly more impressed with the current setting, taking time to enjoy the artistic impressions around her, clearly not affected by the sights of horror as the others. The ghoul always had such strange tastes, not that she was particularly fond of pinks, rainbows and wonderland, but it was still exposure to you know, Art. So very open-minded was she.

"Wonder where they got the birds from."

The question had come from the canine boil in front, and it struck Edel that she had not introduced herself to her new company.

Well, the species is definitely not local...” she began, trailing off to ponder over a possible explanation. “Reanimated dolls, or possibly a mutated variety?” That was a wild guess, but it made her think of where the other ..... things they've seen so far had come from as well.

And not forgetting, Edel greeted the canine and tiger boils in their company. “Good evening sirs. I'm Edelweiss, Edel if you prefer. It's a pleasure to meet you.

"We are unable to form a consensus," Vero replied, now having to squint its large eyes against the impossibly cheery coloring. "But most of us suggest it has something to do with the 'haunted' part of this house's title. Ghosts have leeway in changing their form after all."

With its free hand, the little spirit pulled its hood more over its head, opposite what Art did. Its head was starting to hurt even.

"We also can suggest that perhaps this is all a test of perseverance. Whoever reaches the end of the hall may get a prize?"

"Yeah lets keep... going?"

Shun's words had trailed off as he suddenly saw the puppy in the room. Quite frankly, he wasn't really sure what to make of that. But it was soon scared off by Poke anyway so he didn't have to deal with it. Shaking his head to himself, he helped Mitsu up to her feet and let out a breath.

"..Lets go before those rabbits decide to come back," he said lowly, stuffing his hands back into his pockets before moving on.

[RANDOM EVENT: EVERYONE]

As the students on the staircase climbed up the steps and the students down in the hallway walked ever deeper, a loud voice boomed from nowhere once more.

"What do you fear?" For a moment there was silence, time for the students to continue walking. "What is it that each of you fears the most in this world?"

The voice died again and the students were free to keep going, though it felt like there were eyes all around them. Someone was watching, but from where? And who was it?

Ahead of them on both paths was a mysterious hanging mirror. It was centered in the middle of the stairs and the same way in the hallway, just large enough to block the students from passing. The surface of it glittered and shifted even as it stood still. Whatever it was, it was not normal.

"Step up and look into this mirror of truth, kids. Look into it and tell me what you're afraid of. If you do that, if you face your fear, you may pass.""

There was just no going around it.

-

GAME TIME FOLKS.

If your student chooses not to participate, they may not pass. Their only option is to turn around and leave.

If your student DOES choose to participate, they must look into the mirror. It will show them whatever they are most afraid of - this may be a fear they already know, or a fear that is part of their subconscious. Get creative! The only requirement is that you must describe what their greatest fear is. You may do this by:
1. Art
2. Description
3. Both
4. Any other ORIGINAL method

I don't want you google searching something, but as long as it's your original work I will take it! It's also fine to get others to do something for you as long as it's clear that it was given to you to use.

As soon as your student looks into the mirror and sees the image, it will vanish for them alone. They can then walk past it.

So get creative and have fun! Prizes will be rewarded for judge favorites. (Please note that this doesn't just mean funny things and silly pictures. Well done, dramatic posts are A++ as much as humor is.)

THE EVENT ENDS: July 10th at 5 PM EST. (I'm trying to leave this open for a bunch of people to participate, since I know some of you have missed games in here.)

Merry gave the little hound an odd look, brows dipping at the extreme angle of his neck as he grinned at her, voicing his relief.  "I'm rather glad with it myself," she teased, lips moving against the edge of one furred ear as he traced the edge of one neon feather.  "I don't think I'd want to be dead, and I'm positive Father would disapprove, what with all the work he put into me.". Frankly, disapproval was a bit of and understatement, the professor would have been livid.  "they aren't magic, you know," she added softly to his comment towards her wings, tail flicking lightly against his side.

There was something altogether calming about Than's company.  He wasn't a threat, not to her health nor dominance.  Nor was he a potential mate, too young, and was not speaking strictly on age.  She wasted no energy on shows of aggression or attraction, and could simply relax while in the boil's soul company.  It was very nice.

And she couldn't help but be amused by him when the comments that seemed to flow so naturally from him where so very peculiar.  Endearingly so.  "You're completely right, they should have better manners.". She chuckled softly.   "It does seem safer though.". For effect the ghoul tipped her head back to peer down the hall, then back down at the pup she had curled around.  "I believe if floor cared so much for it's glitter it would create a path one could walk to avoid it."

Her introduction was cut short, and the frost demon's attention had been diverted to the familiar booming voice which sounded through the halls. Another trial was nigh.

"What do you fear?"
"What is it that each of you fears the most in this world?"

An oddly appropriate yet ironic question. Edel had been far from terrified by the Haunted House so far, but there was something in the voice's tone which suggested that it would do her good to take this seriously. The hall was now flooded with a chilling atmosphere, an unsettling sense that someone was watching. Edel took time to ponder over the question – what was it that she feared the most? .

There it was, a huge mirror loomed ahead of them, blocking their path.
"Step up and look into this mirror of truth, kids. Look into it and tell me what you're afraid of. If you do that, if you face your fear, you may pass."

Edel's expression changed. For the first time in the entire Haunted House experience, her light-hearted mood had vanished and in its place was a sombre seriousness. Quietly, she slipped her hands away from Ulmuka and Vero, bringing them to her side. Her right hand scrunched into a fist, but she released it quickly.

What was it she feared? Edel knew the answer, she wasn't afraid of knowing the answer.
Did she have the courage to face it?

Stepping forward towards the looking glass, Edel found that it showed her reflection no more.

As soon as it had appeared it was gone as soon as Poke yelled at the puppy. Mitsu watched it go before turning to Shun allowing the reaper to help her to her feet. She was a little groggy at first but followed the reaper closely down the upstairs landing, going deeper and deeper into the haunted house. The lupine wasn't sure what to expect next but a giant mirror standing in their path certainly wasn't on the list.

"W...what do we do now?" She stuttered out looking back once again to see if there were any bunnies coming up behind them. There were none but that didn't keep her from feeling paranoid much like Xiu.

Turning back to the mirror Mitsu stepped toward it curiously peering into the reflective surface. It looked no different than any other mirror. Or at least it didn't until her image began to shift and distort. Tilting her head, not sure what was happening, she watched as the colors of the background blended together and melted to the floor within the mirror. They puddled into a blob leaving the background void and black.

It didn't seem like anything else was going to happen but the blob began to move, shifting, rippling, and bubbling. Small areas began to rise up taking shape the smooth surface becoming suddenly fuzzy.

Mitsu took a step back for a moment, her hidden features growing concerned as the images of the mirror took shape. Small triangle shaped ears, little noses, long sleek tails, claws....and teeth. And suddenly cats....thousands of them. Oh jack! The filled the mirror like rising water, multiplying rapidly until they were like a tidal wave of fur and mews. The wave of cats had receded back for a moment to only storm forward like it was going to crash into the mirror and break through to the real world.

Mitsu stiffened in fear, her tail bristling out at the sight. She was about to let out a scream as the wave of cats were able to crash into the mirror face but the sound died in her throat when the creatures suddenly vanished without a trace. Still on edge Mitsu looked this way and that trying to locate any sigh of the felines but there were none in sight. What had happened? What ever it was it looked like there was now a path beyond.....should she take it?

Stiffly Mitsu moved forward and passed the mirror. Huff puff....what had just happened? Looking back she hoped the reaper was right behind her. She was more than ready to leave the haunted house.

Than's ear seemed to twitch of his own accord as the ghoul's lips moved against the soft fur, and he felt a wee shiver run down his spine. That didn't feel at all like what happened when his sire tugged it in a fit of disgruntlement, or Pol latched onto it to get his attention, nosirree! Eye popping open wider, he churred his bemusement at the difference of sensation, not particularly knowing what to call it. But it was nice, mmhmm. Perhaps his body had a special way of knowing that it was Merry who was touching. "Than would not be deads-wanting either." He murmured, expression turning sour at the mention of Father. "ThanThan's Papa would be very raged-like." He mused, rather mournfully. "But!" Brightening almost instantly, his tail making a familiar thumping noise against the creaky floor, "Since we-selves are not deads, then is okies!" ^________^

"Perhapsly they had no Papa or Mama to teach thems, the floor-sleepies, so mayhap Merry and Than will have to forgives the naughty floorlings." Carefully sitting up, poking his head out from under her wings to as to view them more properly, he then proceeded with his conversation. "Wiiiiiiiiiings~ <3 Than is sayingslike that the shiny-color feathers are magical anyway...because Merry-bird is magical." The sentence conveyed a certain fondness, proof that the pup had rather instantaneously decided to call the ghoul a friend. Upon second meeting, she was even more pleasant than she had been at the open house, when she had spoken to him, introduced herself, when he had been overwhelmed by the sheer amount of students surrounding him.

It was then that the rather disconcerting voice came ringing down the hallway, speaking of fears and a test...a test to go on? Well what if he wanted to stay right here? Ears flattening down, almost burrowing into his dark hair, he made a rather distressed whimpering sound. Oooh no...all this dark and dire hodge-podgey tests and trials were most certainly not the sort of thing he had desired. "M-Merry....Than doesn't think is to be safe on the floorspace no mores!" ;___;

Wibbling, he very carefully moved to sit upon his knees, hands planting on the floor betwixt them, as he sat amidst the sparkling grime that covered the ground....just staring fixedly at that levitating mirror with one violet eye. It was like it had happened a thousand other times...and the Fae-hound was unable to look away as his own fears took shape within the mirror. He was well aware that terror oft-reigned within him, seizing mind and emotions when he should be in control of himself, and the boil clutched at the dust-laden surface, wishing now that he had something to hold onto, and yet too frozen with alarm to reach back for Merry.

As in the mirror, he could see, as clearly as if the man was standing beside him...his father. Fae. Reaper.... A pair of hourglass eyes watching the child crumpled before him with sneering disdain, a cold, familiar and utterly disappointed expression painted on those handsome, eternal features. Though the picture had been ripped from the pup's mind, it was not one of mere paranoia or imagining, as he could hear the words echoing, vivid....tangible, echoing about his eardrums. 'Disappointment....Disgrace....little idiot...no son of mine....surely my bloodline did not bring forth something this pathetic....'

And Thanatos did not move, staring numbly at the vindictive piece of glass, as a black-gloved hand was pointed his way. The boil's shoulders hunched, and he rather helplessly began to cry. He didn't want to face this! He didn't like this! "THAN IS NOT BAD! THAN IS GOOD!" He wailed, now clutching at himself, fingers buried in the fabric of his own sleeves as he tried to will away the figment.

He was here! Here trying to go to school! Hadn't he done everything right!? Everything Papa had ever ever asked! Than....Than was good....

(Hallway)

It was abnormally dry, and far too quiet. Merope slowly stirred, opening one eye while the other one burst into its normal soft glow. It wasn’t often that Merope completely shut himself down; as an undead, he had very little need for rest. When he did rest, he had his own tank kept to a constant warm temperature to prevent ice from forming over it.

Quite obviously, he was not in his bed. There were still vines that criss-crossed the floor and -- Ohjack! The boil scrambled upright and tried to scoot back from the ball of fluff he had used as a pillow, coughing up a wordless, soundless cloud of glitter. Something prevented him from moving back further.

A closer examination revealed a certain mindflayer was using his tail as a pillow. “*GACK!*” he coughed at Riley, twisting around until his tail was no longer in danger of being popped off. “Riley. Riley. OFF! OFF!” Each word was punctuated by another puff of glitter. It was highly unlikely that he would not be over that affliction for quite awhile.

Merope reclaimed his tail and stood up, shaking his fins out as best as he could. “This is it,” he announced, “I’m out of here.” He took a step and stopped. Where did all the vines come from? Merope slowly turned around, confusion crossing his features. The only thing he had as a landmark was that dratted yellow teddy bear. It was quite large, and the more he looked at it the more an idea was forming in his mind (as repulsive as it was).

But those thoughts were dropped. Shaken. Stirred.

"What do you fear?"
...
"What is it that each of you fears the most in this world?"
...
"Step up and look into this mirror of truth, kids. Look into it and tell me what you're afraid of. If you do that, if you face your fear, you may pass."

Quickly and quietly, Merope’s fins pressed down against him, practically disappearing against his skin. He turned around and left, nearly tripping over his own tail as it tried to tuck itself under him.

But even if he did look in the mirror, there wouldn’t be anything there. Not even his own reflection.
