Tipsy Genius

PostPosted: Tue Jul 13, 2010 2:56 pm

Tiki yawned and stretched, almost falling out of her tree perch. She jumped down, her light frame barely makeing a noise. She padded toward the clearing, where all the wolves always seemed to be.
Tiki looked around, everyone, including her, seemed to think Icarus would make a good pack leader.
She sat on the edge of the clearing, spotting Andragos and Fairyn together, most of the Sure-claws in a little group, and some wolves just werent there at the moment. Tiki sat, feeling more alone than ever, when a little she-wolf came toward her. She looked at the female, wondering why she didnt stay with Fairyn, like most other pups or adolescents. For a moment, jealousy hit her, but Tiki shoook her head, clearing the unhappy thought.

Marie stepped up to her and smiled a friendly smile. "You're really pretty, and you've got some impressive skills." the Haven pup told her in that soft, melodic little voice. "You look lonely... Can I sit with you?" she asked, little fan tail wagging behind her small frame. "Your feet are really cool." she said, peering at the black scaled, obviously impressed. "I heard you can summon birds by whistling... could you teach me how to do that?" she asked, bright eyes wide as she looked up at the female.

User ImageOf all the things for him to being thinking about, Dekel was not quite sure why he was currently contemplating if his paws were actually dirty or not. It was hard to tell, considering how they were brown. Now, on any other part of his body, it would be obvious, what with his light colored fur. However, the parts that were more likely to get dirty - his chest and tail - were that same brown color. So come to think of it, perhaps he really didn't have any brown markings on himself. Maybe his fur was just REALLY dirty.

... Yes, Dekel had a lot of time on his paws.

Currently, the adolescent was walking through the forest right beside the area the group of wolves were gathered in, winding his way through the trees without actually looking at where he was going. Thankfully, he had gotten rather good at predicting what was in front of him, courtesy of his developing tracking and hunting skills. So he avoided most - keyword, most - large structures.

What he WAS paying attention to, though, was probably not worth the effort. Because, as was stated above, his thoughts were circled around his brown coloring. So it stands to reason that he was staring down at said paws, trying to see if he could make them any dirtier, and thus prove... something.

Hey, he was curious, not smart.

Prince had found himself a nice grassy spot to lay down. He spun around in a circle or two before floping down with a contented sigh. He had noticed the small pup, Marie, had trailed him a few times while he was teaching Dekel. She was welcome to join but she had learned at a distance and that was fine with Prince as long as the pup was happy. The adolescent's eyes started to close as he rested in the warm sunlight. Prince was happy that Icarus had become Alpha, he would make a good leader and Prince felt at ease with him being in charge.

User Image"Hello Fairyn. Have you seen Marie?" He tail thumping against her. Then her ears pressed against her head and she looked around. "I didn't see her when we came back from the last fight place." She had watched Fairyn and Andragos go off after that but maybe they had seen Marie since they came back. However she seemed to answer her own question when she noticed the small pup with the Flyer. So she turned her back on Fairyn, giving a small bye to her before running off to go play.

Leaping at Marie to tackle the poor pup, Lilliana stretched out her front paws like she had watched A'cuil and Andragos when they had lept at the other wolves. However her attack was not to hurt the other, but to scare her. "MARIE!" Came her loud voice, it was after all and exclamation of her surprise attack and though she knew was not what she was supposed to do when hunting, wanted to do it for and effect.

Icarus padded out into the clearing with his head hanging. His white tail swung side to side and he growled lightly, his mind separated from his body, his limbs moving by instinct. He took measure steps, his shoulder clearly sunken by some sort of burden. White-tipped ears flicked side-to-side, swiveling and absorbing random bits of conversations. There were many faces and many voices. He knew there were plenty more to come.

Pale-blue eyes flitted about, peering at the wolves that were now his pack. They were the wolves he was responsible for. They all looked at him for food, for resources, for everything... And there was so many, so many.

Realizing there were eyes upon him he shook his head. Icarus raised his chin and squared his shoulders. His pack needed him to be strong, to be secure. The entire reason that he entered the Alpha Tournament had been to protect this group of wolves. But oh had it grown. During the time of the Alpha Tournament the numbers had increased significantly and even more so now.

He looked to the sky, the colour that matches his eyes and nose opened wide by the space that the trees had left empty. So much had occurred in this very clearing. Wolves had met, had gone, had grown, had lived. Now this was the territory of his pack, likely their main meeting area.

Faiyrn watched the young male... she could see he was troubled. She watched his gaze jump around from wolf to wolf. She knew something was wrong, just from the way he stood and held himself. She waited until the other wolves turned away and she trotted over to him, her head down and her ears back. The gamma female approached her alpha and nudged him affectionately. He was almost like a little brother to her after their battle. "What's wrong Icarus? Tell me what's bothering you." she murmured softly.

Icarus jumped for a moment, surprised by Faiyrn's sudden approach. For a moment he shuffled his feet, embarrassed to share his troubles. He still had the drive to prove his rank as Alpha to the wolves in the pack, especially the adults around him. Even more so, the ones he fought in the tournament. He averted his eyes from the femme with the swirls and peered at the trees near her. "Oh, Faiyrn, I-I'm fine." He said with an obviously uneven voice. Icarus growled lightly and made a guttural sound and said once more, "I am fine." With a slightly more composed voice.

There were just some things in his mind of which he didn't want to admit. They were embarrassing things, weak things, things Alphas weren't supposed to show openly. Although he had never experience the leadership of an Alpha, he was still driven to prove he was one.

He rose his pale-blue eyes to her's cautiously, hoping his face didn't contradict everything he had said. Icarus knew his eyes were expressive, but he did try to hide things from them. He looked at Faiyrn, recognizing the strong warrior that he had fought many weeks ago. Now he had aged, he was an adult and had chosen the path of Warrior himself. Although he was still young, he was no longer an adolescent.

Faiyrn's eyes narrowed and she lifted her head a little. "I'm a wolf. I can smell a Lie Icarus. You're nervous, your heart rate is accelerating and your scent has changed. I can see the fear in your eyes." her words were soft and lightly spoken so no one else could hear.

"Look, I know you're trying to be strong for everyone else Icarus, but an Alpha can not hide things from his pack! That right there is what is going to hurt the trust your pack has for you..." she was quiet for a moment and then she murmured, "If you don't want to talk about it here, we can go somewhere else to talk, but it's not good to hold it in Icarus." she said softly.

Icarus flattened his ears as he was scolded by the femme. He should have known better than to lie to Faiyrn, but the sinking feeling he felt in his chest when he knew he was caught urged his tail to swing between his legs. Instead, his white tipped tail flicked to the side. His white brows furrowed together as he realized she was scolding him in front of part of their pack. Though, he was grateful she was rather quiet about it.

Pale-blue eyes searched hers, hoping to find something to trust in there. "B-but," He began to say in protest but realized it would simply be better to shut up. Her words brought back images of his mother, one that he quickly locked away into a box before they could harm him.

He stared at her for a moment, and his warmth pulsed as he made a decision. "Fine." He said curtly and with a swish of his tail turned into the forest and padded towards it. After a few steps he looked over his shoulder towards the femme. He watched her for a second, and then continued walking, expecting her to follow.

Aw Crap.... She thought wide eyed, realizing what she had just done. She lowered her head and laid her ears flat against her skull. She tucked her tail between her legs and whimpered aplogetically. Note to self. Don't try to think like A'cuil in public... She heard him begin to protest and she averted her eyes in respect.

When he turned and trotted off she was unsure if she had upset him and when he stopped to look at her she understood to follow and did so. She waited until they were out of ear shot and she stepped forward hesitantly. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to..." she murmured.

Icarus stopped and stared at the forest before turning around, he looked at her for a moment. "Well you did." He said with a snarky snap. But that snap did not last long. He cursed himself for acting so rudely towards one of the warriors he had a strong respect for. Even if he was Alpha, he still knew she was the stronger wolf. He paced around in a circle silently for a moment, considering his words.

"I..." He began for a moment and then trailed off. Icarus knew he could trust Faiyrn but still these words were embarrassing, even more-so when he was supposed to be a leader. At last he broke through the block in his mind. He needed someone he could trust and with Rouqie roaming for other wolves he had to be able to confide in a wolf.

"I'm scared." He said quickly, then nearly kicked himself. "N-no, not scared, just... I don't know." He looked away, heat blaring in embarrassment. "It's embarrassing..." He whispered in his immature voice, his mask of leadership breaking. "The-there's so many wolves, and I'm just... me." He gazed back at the direction from which they came. "There's more... so many more than I thought I'd be taking care of." He lowered his voice, as if fearful others would hear him.

He brought his face close to her and spoke, "How can I provide for so many, I'm a single wolf who knows nearly nothing as of yet. I-I, I... have no experience other than the tournament." Icarus spun away and took a few steps away. "How could I tell my pack this? There are some things that should remain a secret!" He muttered to himself angrily.

She flicked her ears back when she was snapped at, knowing she had deserved it. She had questioned an Alpha infront of his Pack. It had been a stupid thing to do. Her Alpha no less, the Alpha she had promised to support.

She knew it was hard for him to talk to her... especially being that he was the Alpha now and he felt he had to be in control and was supposed to know everything. He came out with it finally and admitted he was afraid, and when he tried to take it back she shook her head and stepped forward. "Don't be embarassed Icarus... admitting to fear is a strength not many possess. There are so many great leaders in the past that could have succeeded in doing something that would change the world, but they lacked the strength to tell someone when they were afraid and needed counsel." she murmured softly.

She stopped and let him spek, let him say what he needed to have said. She sat down and looked at him long and hard before speaking in a voice that was gentle, kind, motherly... "Icarus... You're one wolf... You are young, even though you are an adult... You have never known an Alpha and you have no Elder to counsel you... You have a right to be afraid, and you have a right to be confused and concerned. No one expects you to do things on your own. You have wolves who will stand behind you and fight, No matter what...We are a Pack, a team... A family. We all have roles to play.... yours is to lead and to think of what is best for the pack, and to hear the voices of those you lead." she paused and listened.

"You alone do not provide, the pack works together to keep eachother happy and well... and being able to talk to your pack about this unease is what's important... You think to tell them would be weak or folly, but Icarus my dear... let them know your concerns and hear their voices, hear them tell you that you are not alone in these times of darkness. You do not stand alone in your fights." she murmured, leaning in to nuzzle his cheek as his face was near hers.

Heat coursed through him as he realized that Faiyrn had begun to baby him, almost. But it wasn't something that he shirked away from. It was the loving touch he never experienced in his youth. To be told not to fear fear itself, was something he had never thought possible. Even though Faiyrn instructed him not to be embarrassed, he still couldn't help but be just that. As she told him of the past he listened and soon mumbled to himself, "I wish I could've met one of them myself..."

He realized that Faiyrn had truly listened to him, in a manner that he had never known. She was like an older sibling helping him through a hard time. Icarus knew that he felt immature, being counseled in such a manner, having everything explained to him, but he recognized the femme's seniority. She had been an adult when he was still a mere pup. "A family." He repeated her words, as if to solidify them in his mind.

He licked her cheek in response, a display of affection, also of gratitude. Faiyrn had really calmed Icarus, shown him not all was lost, that he would be able to do it. But still, one thing buzzed in the back of his mind like an annoying fly you simply want to squish. "There are still too many." His mood-swings had passed and his anger and confusion had calmed. "Reasonably, there is only so much wolves I can speak to. As of now, there are only so many which I can listen to. There..." He turned his head away for a moment, not sure if he should seriously suggest such a thing.

Icarus his gaze to the gray female and sighed. "There needs to be another pack." He said at last. Even though this pack had just newly formed, there was need for another. So many wolves were already here and even more were still lingering in the forest. A single leader could not handle so many.
