That news hit Luke like a dead weight.
"I... I might be a...?" he asked breathlessly, but there was no fear in his voice; rather there was a budding excitement and awe. As he had said to Alex, he would love to be a father...

Edel blinked at him. He was...excited about it? "....you might be. I'll need to try to put the DNA together to see if I can pick anything up. If I find something, then yes."

Edel smiled. "Might be. We'll need blood samples to see if I can get a match found. And then...." she paused a moment and frowned. "And then we'll have to see about rescuing Atropos. I don't know what Nekron wanted with her, or if she's even alive still."

Edel sighed and leaned back. "I don't know. It is the same problem that I would have with rescuing the other heroes that were captured. I can locate them. I can go to them. But it would be next to impossible for me to get back out."

"I was summoned?" came Captain Cosmos' ethereal voice, and he appeared in the room.
"No, but... maybe you could answer a question: If Miss Edel here were to try to keep you from leaving her house, would she be able to keep you in?"
"Were she to focus all of her power upon me, then yes. Otherwise, no. Even the Dread Ones would have difficulty holding me within their realms, for I am made of limitless power." Cosmos replied steadily.

"I am unable to enter Nekron's realm," Cosmos said, and Luke balked.
"But-- but you just said--"
"It is not yet time for Atropos' rescue, Lucas Ellison. I am unable to interfere directly as a result. I must follow the direction of The One Above All. She shall be rescued, but I will not be the one to do so, nor will it be done until the final battle."

Edel paused a moment and stared at the cosmic being thoughtfully. Then she glanced down at the ring in her hands, then shrugged. "Well then...suppose this is one less thing I need to worry about." she said, then stood and moved to a desk in the corner of the room. She opened the drawer and pulled out a small glass box and carefully set the ring inside of it. Once she closed it, it sealed with a green light.

"If you are referring to Atropos' rescue, then yes. If you are referring to the Black Lantern Ring now in your possession, I would advise studying it," Cosmos said to Edel.
"I think she knows the importance of such a thing, Cap," Luke said to Cosmos.
"Perhaps, but the importance of having such information cannot be overstated," Cosmos replied, and Luke got a thought.
"Hey Cap-- what is it that you do when not talking to people?"
"I observe sentient life... and I learn things." the cosmic being replied.
