Fryma handed him the notebook made of thinned tree bark and bound with springy twigs he'd found. "All you have to do is write with a bit of charcoal whatever you want. It should last your lifetime and never run out. I thought you might like it to communicate with people easier."

Moni opened it, his eyes wide with wonder. After a moment, he set down the book and hugged him, kissing him gratefully. He nuzzled him and smiled radiantly.

Fryma returned the smile and chuckled, nuzzling him lightly. He hugged Moni tightly and kissed the corner of his mouth gently. "Now, what do you want to do? We're going to have to find something tiring. You slept through the night and took a nap not an hour and a half after you got up."

Moni blushed in embarrassment, looking down and leaning against him. What to do... He looked around for charcoal to help him write it out, but didn't find any, then got an idea. He found some colorful but poisonous berries and took them to a rock, crushing them carefully. He got a small stick and rubbed the edge smooth, dipping it into the juice and writing. 'Can we go play with the jaguar cub?'

Fryma smiled and nodded. He led the way to the jaguar's den and called cautiously to the mother. Five minutes later, the cub tumbled head over paws out of the den, grinning a baby kitty grin at the spirit and boy he recognized as his saviors. He pounced at Moni, now as tall as the boy's shins, and growled playfully.

Moni gasped as he was tackled to the ground by the cub, smiling with silent laughter and scratching behind his ears, the cub's major weakness.

The cub made a noise that was equal parts meow, growl, and purr, his way of laughing, as he flopped on his belly and closed his eyes. He rolled over suddenly and placed his forepaws on Moni's shoulders and licked his cheek before pushing backwards and tumbling with Moni the way he did with his brothers and sisters.

Moni smiled and played with him like that, not minding the scratches and occasional attempts to bite.

Fryma smiled as he watched, talking with the mother jaguar. When she started worrying about her cub, Fryma touched Moni's shoulder. "The mother says it's time for his bath."

Moni nodded and the cub licked his cheek in goodbye before going to take his bath.

They walked the river Fryma had taken Moni to the first time they met in the forest. "Do you remember this place?"

Moni nodded, writing. 'With the fish, right?' He asked, smiling.

Fryma shook his head. "This is where I took you the first day we met to keep you out of danger. You played with a rabbit most of the time."

"I thought you might like to visit here again. It's the perfect place to relax and rest for a while." He sat on a boulder, pulling Moni into his lap, nuzzling his cheek softly.
