Sukotto felt as though he had began to make a little bit of progress, however, he felt as though his mind was becoming sidetracked once again, as he began to think about the training he had went through at the hands of his former sensei, Tategami-Shuga. While she was quite proficient with taijutsu, as Sukotto had observed her practicing many times, the woman didn't seem to take her squad into account as much as she should have. The woman knew her stuff when it came to hand to hand fighting, that's for sure, but she didn't seem to really understand or know how to train students in other areas. One example of this is when she had Sukotto, Kaori, and Seshiro toss around a large stone to increase their strength. Sukotto was obviously having a rough time with this at the time, because his strength was very low because he hadn't really been taught anything about using brute force to come out on top in a situation. Since this was the case, he was left having a lot of difficulty with the exercise and received little help from his sensei, so he felt as though he hadn't really learned anything from that training session. Sukotto never wanted to have one of his students placed in a similar position.

Indeed, the situation that he had been put into by Shuga at the time wouldn't have helped him one bit. The more Sukotto thought about it, the more he realized that the training that he went through in his former squad was streamlined, much like the teachings of the Shinobi Academy in Shimagakure. Even if he had excelled at the stone throwing, the exercise wouldn't have helped Sukotto because it wasn't based on training that would directly help him in the long run. Instead, it was quite generalized and turned into something that only barely managed to help the squad as a whole. The Uchiha figured that Shuga hadn't taken the time to examine his, or even Seshiro or Kaori's personal skills or abilities to determine what sorts of training would benefit them the best as individuals and then eventually, as an entire squad. If he had stuck with Shuga and her squad, Sukotto felt confident enough to say that he knew that he wouldn't be as strong as he had ended up being. He wouldn't have managed to have defeated Aya during his visit to the outpost that she had stationed herself at, and he wouldn't have been popular enough to have been given permission to form his very own squad of ninja.

Fortunately, the Uchiha had broken off from the squad that he had been assigned to, and had spent much of his time in Shimagakure training on his own. When he entered the village, Sukotto had a very strong grasp on ninjutsu, probably strong enough to compare himself to the average Chuunin's understanding of the special kind of ninja skill area. However, even though he had a strong skill to attack with, Sukotto had met a few opponents with either a kind of attacking skill that surpassed his own, or a level of endurance that was so high that it absorbed even his most powerful attack, the Phoenix Flower Jutsu. After learning the error of his ways, Sukotto had begun training himself in the defensive arts of detecting hidden enemies, sensing his way through illusions and the lies, persuasions, or intimidation that people sent his way, and simply dodging attacks that were thrown his way, such as ninjutsu and taijutsu assaults. While his defenses weren't perfect by any means, the Uchiha felt as though he had come a long way since he arrived to the island-based village of Shimagakure. He had spent long hours training his defenses, both in researching various kinds of attacks, and working his mind and body past their limits.

After considering how he’d activate the stronger points of his squad mates’ personalities when he needed to, Sukotto would factor in how these could potentially strengthen the squad member as an individual, and the squad as a whole. For instance, if a shinobi was known to be particularly quiet and set apart from the world, Sukotto would use this trait to turn them into an once they weren’t really in the same world of thought as the other shinobi, they’d be able to have a slightly altered perspective, and would likely be able to offer unique input that would probably help out the squad in many various ways. Three areas of thought down, two to go. The Second to last thing that Sukotto would go over would be exactly how he could train his squad mates to use their emotions to their advantage in battle. While most shinobi were trained to ignore their emotions, Sukotto would would instead teach his squad members to funnel their emotions into a positive advantage for themselves and the squad.

((Rolls for the previous post and then this post, respectively))

Finally, Sukotto would take his last few thoughts on the subject and consider what sorts of battle plans he could develop that would allow the use of emotion and personality. In essence, the Uchiha would customize existing strategies and fit them with modifications so that they would work with his squad as well as was possible. With these enhanced plans, Sukotto’s squad would be able to use all of ther abilities to their greatest potential, instead of sticking to some sort of battle plan that would restrict them while in battle, and also in their overall level of growth while training and learning all that life had to offer. Indeed, Sukotto felt that quality strategy was more like a work of art than some regulated set of rules. Instead of being a clear cut blueprint for a building that would blend in with the rest, it would be more like a painting of a glorious fortress, one that would outshine anything that it came up against, unless the raw and natural talent of the squad’s enemies made up for their lack of creative plans.

Before he allowed his mind's train to get on track and begin thinking about what this mental training session could do for his squad, Sukotto allowed himself to think back to the battle that he had against Tenmoki Aya, which had taken place far outside the coast lines of Shimagakure. To assist his squad with their future training, Sukotto would think back to what had caused him to be victorious in that fight. Having observed Aya's abilities on the field, Sukotto knew that part of his victory had been due to luck and the fact that he had been the more ambitious of the two by attacking first. This had caused Aya to remain on defense for the remainder of the sparring match, and she never once put forth an assault against the Uchiha, let alone hit him with anything. Since he had the chance to remain on the offensive, Sukotto was able to use his clones to prevent Aya from dodging his taijutsu attacks, which he had thrown at her with full force. They had agreed to hold back on their ninjutsu, so Sukotto had instead decided to use his taijutsu, this way, his chakra wouldn't be drained to low levels, preventing him from losing the ability of his Sharingan, which had aided in exposing the girl's weak spots.

Since she was placed into a defensive so quickly by his genjutsu and taijutsu assault, Aya performed a textbook move and quickly hid herself to raise her defenses. This would have really helped her out in most situations, as she was good at hiding and she had a really good ninjutsu to help her hiding out, however, Sukotto's Sharingan quickly saw through her deceptive ninjutsu and allowed him to quickly track her within the mist that she had created. The Chuunin knew that Ichi had often times taught Aya about the ways of a shinobi, and Sukotto began to wonder if he had taught her that it was a bad idea to use deceptive techniques against a Sharingan user, as they would most likely see right through it. Sukotto had had a lot of trouble seeing through deception in some of his previous missions, even with his Sharingan activated, mainly because his eyes hadn't been properly trained at that time. However, he had spent quite a bit of time following those missions in preparing his eyes to see through illusions and to discover hidden enemies or traps. Thankfully, he had trained enough to see right through Aya's jutsu, allowing him to land his final attack on her.

Sticking with the original plan that he had formulated in order to go about his thoughts in an efficient way, Sukotto began to consider what sorts of things about his squad members’ personalities could be considered strengths. For whatever reason, Sukotto always seemed to start with Serena, and this time would be no different. The Chuunin had already figurd the girl to be the glue of the quad, and judging by what he had seen so far, she was more than capable for the job, even in the face of the serpent youth. The qualities of the girl that caused her to be fit for the job of holding the squad together was the fact that she seemed to look at every side of things before passing any sort of judgment. Sukotto didn’t need his Sharingan in order to see that the girl wasn’t what you’d call “excited” to see that Shisei was going to be on her squad, and she didn’t really try to hide it, but the look of frustration had quickly left her face, as it was clear that she had concluded that Sukotto must have had good reason to have overlooked the boy’s vicious personality and included him in the selection of the squad. Sukotto figured that the girl may not have known what it was, but he was sure that she’d be able to figure it out.

In addition to reading things beneath the surface, Serena also seemed to have a fair bit of patience, but that didn’t stop her from defending herself when the time came for it, like when Shisei had assaulted her with an attack of words. This was quite vital, as most people who had a decent amount of patience actually had too much of it, and weren’t assertive enough to act hastily when the time came for it. While aggressive and reckless action may have seemed like something to avoid at all cost, Sukotto felt as though it was the only way to defeat certain opponents who wished to draw battles out for as long as possible. Indeed, it was the strategy of many genjtsu users to try and keep their opponent back so that they could continually wear them down with mind tricks. To defeat something like this, one needed to strike hard and fast so that the genjtsu user wouldn’t have time to set up whatever nasty tricks they had in store for the said shinobi. Sukotto planned on having this drawn out genjutsu strategy as one of his own in the future, when his genjutsu was more powerful, so he’d be a good sparring partner for Serena to train with.

Indeed, Sukotto would like to develop his genjutsu quite a bit further than the bunshins that he had used against Aya. In all honesty, it seemed as though defense against genjutsu was nearly the most overlooked weakness that nearly all shinobi, save ocular based shinobi like the Uchiha, had. Instead of attacking what an enemy expected, their body, one would attack something that the enemy would think was completely out of reach, their own perception of the world and their minds as a whole. Since shinobi had started becoming so powerful, many expected sneak attacks, and did their best to train their detection skills, especially the samurai who had been a warrior breed that had all but died out. Instead of face to face fighting like they were used to, samurai had adapted to the shinobi ways, and would attempt to draw the shinobi onto the field of either weapon or taijutsu based battle, since samurai couldn't wield the chakra based weapons of ninjutsu or genjutsu. Over the years, the samurai had picked up on the stealth tactics of ninja, so Sukotto figured that it was a good idea for a few powerful shinobi to adopt genjutsu to mix it up a little and take the samurai by surprise.

Since he planned on developing many genjutsu techniques, Sukotto figured that Serena would be a good practice partner, as he wanted her to become good at escaping these illusions. Ichi had placed Sukotto in many of these genjutsu situations, and Sukotto planned on doing the same for Serena, so he could provide a danger-free environment for her to train against something that was difficult to train for without direct exposure to it. This way, if she ever ended up fighting a skilled genjutsu user on the field, she'd be ready to take them on, unlike Sukotto, who hadn't been ready when he had faced his first genjutsu user on the mission to Haha Island, which had taken place years before Sukotto managed to form his own squad. He remembered simply walking from one area to the next when a bright light shone into his eyes. At first, he figured it to be light shining off of metal or some sort of mirror, but that was just a trick to get the Uchiha to peer in its direction, which trapped him inside of a deadly genjutsu. Unfortunately, Sukotto had a lot of trouble facing this genjutsu, as it had made an illusion clone of sorts of himself, which he was forced to fight against.

Shisei's position wasn't tough to get to...he was right below her where she could bend over and assist. Serena especially did not like the fact that she was looking down a steep ledge, though. One misstep could cause her to fall. "Here, Shisei...I'm coming..." She took in a deep breath. "NOT...cause I care about you or your annoying attitude..but because a life is a life and I'm not going to sit here and watch." The Raiken carefully knelt down and got a steady balance on the branch and held her hand out in attempt to grab the boy's arm, which was nimbly hanging on for life. "I should be able to get you up here..." She kept one hand secured on a stable part of the cliff and the other continued to inch forward towards Shisei.

At that time, the Uchiha hadn't developed his taijutsu nearly as much as his ninjutsu or even his ability to dodge, so when fighting against himself, the only way to win was to use the Phoenix Flower, since it was the only thing that would be able to hit the illusion. Unfortunately, the Uchiha hadn't developed his chakra very much at the time, which meant that he only had enough chakra to use the jutsu once, which could have definitely stopped the clone in its tracks, but after breaking the genjutsu by eliminating the clone, Sukotto would have to fight against the one who had used the technique on him in the first place. If he spent all of his chakra to escape the jutsu, then on the chance that the shinobi he was fighting could dodge his taijutsu, which was likely due to his lack of skill at the time, then he would be out of luck and would have been defeated in reality instead of inside the jutsu. Since he hadn't really ever used bunshins before his journey to Haha Island, Sukotto's genjutsu skill had been quite low at the time, preventing him from making his taijutsu more accurate with a sneak attack. After much debate, Sukotto finally attempted a straight up taijutsu attack, which had little chance of striking the made up version of himself, but at the time, he felt as though he hadn't had another option.

After launching the best taijutsu attack that he could muster at the time, the illusion version of Sukotto narrowly dodged the physical attack and then launched the Phoenix Flower jutsu directly at the real Uchiha. Since he knew that he didn't have the skill to dodge that technique at the time, Sukotto attempted to deflect the technique with his own Phoenix Flower. To conserve his chakra, the real shinobi attempted to deflect the three fireballs of the illusion with just one fireball. Unfortunately, this didn't work at all, and the fireballs of the illusion crashed into the real Uchiha and the genjutsu successfully neutralized Sukotto, leaving him in quite a bad state of mind. Luckily, his opponent was either sated with just disabling Sukotto, or had become distracted with something else, as the Uchiha was allowed to live. Sukotto often thought back to that fight, as he believed that opponent to be nearly the most skilled that he had ever fought before. He would try and think of ways that he could have went about the battle differently, to prepare himself for future confrontations with similar shinobi. Unfortunately, Sukotto doubted that he'd ever get the chance to battle that shinobi again, but he had learned quite a bit from the fight, and was thankful enough for that.

As he continued to allow his mind to wander away from what he was actually trying to focus on, Sukotto began to think about what sorts of things he could have done differently in the fight against his mysterious and still unknown opponent. The most core concept of the battle was that Sukotto had no idea what sorts of abilities his actual opponent had, besides their skill with genjutsu. For all he knew, they were weak, slow, and completely relied on illusions to win fights. If this case was true, then Sukotto could have used the Phoenix Flower to take out the faked version of himself, enabling him to seek out his opponent and engage them in reality. If he had a little chakra left after using the ninjutsu technique against the illusion, then he'd be able to keep his Sharingan activated, and more easily dodge physical attacks and sense mental attacks, enabling himself to avoid sustaining damage. He'd then use what little taijutsu skill he had to whittle down the genjutsu user's stamina, and eventually come out on top of the battle. Unfortunately, this definitely wasn't guaranteed, as he had no clue about the other skills of his opponent. There was also a chance that the opponent would be very good at dodging, but still lacking other offensive skills, making the fight a stalemate of sorts.
